When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 15 - 0: Untie the Rope and Let Me Have a Look
Under the dim streetlight, the night breeze carried the unique scent of youth from his body, brushing past her nose. She seemed to smell the faint scent of wormwood from the bus ride earlier.
Could it be the smell of that umbrella?
Jiang Shuyao blinked her watery eyes, lifted her head, and met Pei Yan’s deep gaze before slowly revealing a delayed realization.
"So, the person who lent me the umbrella that day was you."
The girl sported an innocent expression that screamed ’don’t hit me, I just found out,’ effectively dispelling the sullen mood in Pei Yan’s heart.
He raised his arm and fiercely ruffled her hair, "Being so slow, how will you ever get married?"
She: "..."
Stick to the point, no personal attacks, please.
Seeing her slightly annoyed look, Pei Yan chuckled and then intriguingly suggested, "If you really can’t get married, just act cute for me every day, and if I’m in a good mood, who knows—"
"You should worry about yourself."
Jiang Shuyao stepped back a few steps, interrupting him angrily.
Having escaped from someone’s clutches with messy hair, she grumbled, "Always so inappropriate, girls see you and run a mile away, and you still expect me to act cute for you? Where’s your confidence coming from?"
In her words, the girls she referred to included Tang Xing.
As a new transfer student, Jiang Shuyao naturally did not realize how ludicrous her thought was.
In Yunzhong, fearing Pei Yan seemed instinctual, yet there were also countless people overtly and covertly trying to please him.
Pei Yan, however, wished those girls would stay far away from him; he didn’t care about anything else, as long as this silly girl in front of him treated him like a person.
The 505 bus approached slowly from a distance. Jiang Shuyao, not wanting to argue with this scoundrel any longer, tidied her hair messed by him and took out two coins from her backpack, ready to board the bus.
A gust of wind blew, her newly straightened hair tangled again, and her airy bangs fluttered up, revealing her fair forehead.
In the stress-filled third year of high school, to save time washing her hair, Jiang Shuyao had recently cut her waist-length hair shorter, now just reaching her shoulder blades, making her look much lighter. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
In the night breeze, Pei Yan was somewhat mesmerized. Having known her for so many years, he was accustomed to seeing her with the ear-length short hair of her childhood. Later, as her hair grew, she liked to tie it back into a ponytail, a style she kept for years.
In that moment, a sudden thought sprouted in the boy’s heart.
Seizing the opportunity while the girl was patiently fixing her hair, Pei Yan bent down unobtrusively, drawing close to her ear, "Yaoyao, let down your hair tie and let me see."
Jiang Shuyao had just lifted her eyes when she saw his face close at hand, and the sudden warm breath by her ear.
"You, don’t stand so close. What would people think?" Her gentle, soft voice stammered, clearly startled.
Pei Yan glanced down and chuckled lightly, his tone tinted with roguishness, "The wind is too strong, how else would you hear me?"
Before she could retort, Pei Yan reached out his long arm, gently brushing her cheek as he moved to the back of her head. The next second, her black hair cascaded down along his large hand.
"You little rascal—"
"Don’t move, I’m just looking for ten seconds."
The girl’s face flushed with annoyance, her sparkling eyes full of accusation.
Pei Yan looked down, attentively admiring her and feeling something was off, squinted his eyes in thought, then tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear.
Hmm, much better now.
The boy smiled satisfactorily, but his shoe tip was caught off guard with a fierce stomp from the girl.
"You wanted symmetry, right? I’ve granted your wish!"
After spitting her words out through clenched teeth, Jiang Shuyao furiously clutched her backpack strap and boarded the bus.
