When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 169: Don’t Boys Prefer Girls a Bit Chubbier?
Chen Jin had five tickets, exactly in the third row near the stage.
Actually, this distance was still a bit too close for Jiang Shuyao. It was her first time attending such a live concert, with the sound system blaring so loudly that it felt like her entire head was buzzing.
Noticing her discomfort, Pei Yan pulled her back two rows and casually picked a middle seat to sit down.
Jiang Shuyao hesitated, "This seat is definitely taken by someone."
"There’s no one."
"How do you know?"
He cast a lazy glance towards the sales hall on the left, but said nothing.
Given someone’s temper, even if the seat was occupied, they would have managed to make it unoccupied by the end.
Jiang Shuyao decided not to delve deeper. The show had already begun, and the sound of the guitar, along with the music, quickly quieted the noisy venue.
Surprisingly, today’s opening act wasn’t a fierce, overwhelming rock headliner.
A gentle melody, accompanied by a low, pure voice, slowly arose.
It was just past ten o’clock, and the sun was fiercer than before.
Beneath them, the auditorium turned into a colorful sea of umbrellas, and the thirty-degree temperature was barely tolerable for a concert. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Soon, Tang Xing sent a WeChat message asking whether the singer was male or female.
Jiang Shuyao shifted her umbrella back, her gaze moving towards the stage, and her eyes slightly startled.
The person singing was Zhong Yuan.
Holding a guitar, she sang while playing it. Her voice lacked the innate delicacy and lightness of a woman, having a more androgynous deep tone that easily brought to mind the phrase ’walking cello.’
Her deep voice, paired with her ear-length short hair, indeed made it hard to determine her gender.
Usually, Zhong Yuan played guitar outside their dormitory balcony, and Fang Wei often secretly commented, "She plays the same tune over and over, annoyingly disruptive."
Back then, Jiang Shuyao thought that, although it was the same tune, the fingering was skilled, and the melody was smooth; surely, she must have put tremendous effort into it.
Today, she learned that Zhong Yuan could not only play the guitar but also sing.
And she sang very well.
"She’s my roommate and in the same class as us."
"...Hmm."
Hearing someone’s weary hum, Jiang Shuyao couldn’t help but turn her head.
Everyone was intently watching the performance, yet this guy beside her was resting with his eyes closed. She suspected if she didn’t speak soon, he would definitely fall asleep in a bit.
The song wasn’t long, lasting only four minutes. After it ended, a few sparse claps echoed from the audience, including from Jiang Shuyao.
For such warm-up acts, the organizers followed the industry standard in compensation, Zhong Yuan holding a guitar residency at a bar for a week only just covered half a month’s living expenses, but today’s gig paid double the usual.
Around noon, Tang Xing, overwhelmed by the heat, bought an iced drink but it hardly soothed her inner irritability.
She grabbed a promotional brochure and frantically fanned her face, trying to feel a hint of coolness.
Seeing this, Chen Jin chuckled, "I tell you, girl, among hundreds of people here, you’re the only one feeling the heat. Know why?"
Tang Xing took a big sip of watermelon juice, "Why."
Seeing her pathetic state, Chen Jin kindly made a suggestion.
"Eat more radishes and vegetables in normal times, cut down on fried and sweet foods. Once you slim down like Sister Yao, you’ll feel the breeze naturally."
Tang Xing slowly turned her head.
After a moment, she found her voice, "I have a very standard physique, where am I fat?"
She paused, then bizarrely countered, "Don’t you guys like a bit of weight?"
Chen Jin almost spat out his drink.
Damn, he nearly died laughing.
This girl must have some misunderstandings about men.
After a good laugh, Chen Jin turned serious and earnestly corrected Tang Xing’s misconception.
"Men like big breasts, not fat."
"..."
Although somewhat taken aback, Tang Xing still couldn’t help muttering, "How can you have boobs without gaining weight? Those who eat don’t understand the hard work of those who dig wells."
"What did you say?"
"Nothing!"
Uh.
Someone’s mad.
The show was only halfway through, featuring mostly internet singers, with a star performer making just a brief appearance of a few minutes.
Tang Xing wasn’t really focused on the performance anymore, he was texting Yaoyao on WeChat, asking if she was hungry or if she smelled the scent of hot pot in the air.
There are so many hot pot restaurants in Seaside City, and with today’s huge crowd, they were probably all packed.
Listening to the girl’s drooling tone, Jiang Shuyao couldn’t help but laugh and roll her eyes. She was looking at her phone, typing, and using her hand to push Pei Yan’s shoulder at the same time.
He had slept for two whole hours. What was he up to last night?
Her hand hadn’t even touched his clothes before he grabbed it with one hand.
Jiang Shuyao, taken aback, turned her head, and he was lazily watching her, half-squinting.
"Let’s go eat."
She tried to pull her hand away, but couldn’t.
Pei Yan slightly adjusted his sitting position, leaning towards her, "What are your plans after dinner?"
"Not sure. Back to school?"
"So no plans then."
He pulled her to stand up, lifting the umbrella over their heads, covering her entirely in the shade.
Having gone too late, Tang Xing missed out on the hot pot he had been eagerly anticipating and instead suggested finding a barbecue restaurant. The form didn’t matter, as long as there was meat.
Chen Jin knew this area the best and led the way. When the elevator reached the third floor, he gestured for everyone to go on ahead.
As the elevator doors were about to close, Tang Xing saw Chen Jin confidently entering a tattoo shop, prompting him to ask, "Is a friend joining us?"
The floors continued to ascend.
Fourth floor, fifth floor, and the elevator dinged as the doors opened.
He Qingzhou stepped out with a faint smile, "Maybe, depends if Chen Jin has the charm to persuade them."
Tang Xing was usually curious, but surprisingly remained quiet after hearing He Qingzhou’s comment, not asking further.
The dinner intended for five abruptly turned into four, and even after the barbecue was over, Chen Jin hadn’t returned.
Back from paying at the counter, He Qingzhou looked somewhat intriguing.
Tang Xing finally couldn’t contain himself and asked, "Where did Chen Jin go?"
Well, obviously to woo some beauty.
He Qingzhou tilted his head towards Pei Yan, "Shall we also go down and take a look?"
As soon as the words fell, the first to stride out of the barbecue place was Tang Xing, his steps rapid, as if more urgent than anyone.
The three others leisurely followed, with Jiang Shuyao muttering to herself, feeling that something had been off about that girl since dinner.
Inside the tattoo shop, two clients were suddenly attended.
Chen Jin bustled about behind Wen Lin, smiling broadly, a sight that made Tang Xing’s eyes dry, filled with indescribable emotions.
His gaze then drifted, staring and analyzing the female boss thoroughly.
Curly hair, melon-seed face, slim waist, 32D...
From top to bottom, she was exactly Chen Jin’s type.
Seeing how familiar he acted, it was clear he must have come here quite often.
Hmph.
So shallow, can’t even walk properly when he sees someone pretty. Starving himself instead of eating, all to play the lapdog here.
Tang Xing couldn’t stand it anymore, sullenly looking away.
