When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 252: Someone’s Misdeeds
Following that, Pei Yan’s voice came through in a tone that was both mocking and bemused, "Old Pei has strived for years, and you, with just a single casual remark, have solved it all. Quite capable, aren’t you, Princess?"
"..." She was bewildered.
What did that mean?
Only after reflecting on it later did she realize how helpless Pei Yan had felt after hearing her "bad idea."
Words had already been spoken, and the play must go on in full; if Yuan Chong unwittingly discovered that Pei Yan hadn’t actually gone to the grassroots level at Zhizhen, wouldn’t it unnecessarily arouse his suspicions?
Jiang Shuyao regretted it deeply, hoping that since only Lu Chen had been present, he wouldn’t tell that man everything.
However, nothing in the world is absolute, and to be safe, Pei Yan still took the initiative to approach Old Pei.
This was something completely unexpected to everyone at Zhizhen.
Since childhood, Mr. Pei had always marched to the beat of his own drum, looking down on everyone. Not to mention making him start at the grassroots, even getting him to make an appearance at the annual meeting as the heir was tougher than reaching the heavens.
The servants sighed, "The young master has finally grown up; Chairman Pei can now rest easy."
As for others, with a half-doubting attitude, they watched from a bystander’s perspective, deliberately or unconsciously observing Mr. Pei’s various behaviors after entering the sales department.
In just a short forty days, the entire department had completely revised their views on the unruly Crown Prince.
He was overly diligent, punching in at nine o’clock every day, wearing the same uniform as everyone else, working tirelessly at his post, meticulously writing his work reports, and laboriously following up on the house, garage, storefront, and underground shop sales control and reports.
By the end of this month, Mr. Pei had sold four villas in Section G, eight apartments in Seaside City, and twenty shops, with sales amounting to seventy-nine million.
In the top floor office of Zhi Zhen Building, after listening to the sales director’s report of the data, Pei Donghan fell into a prolonged silence.
Logically speaking, the young master should have been pleased with such responsibility and ability.
So why did he seem so... worried?
While the sales director was secretly pondering, Pei Donghan asked, "What exactly does that kid do in the sales department?"
"Organizing customer information, participating in sales training, and also collecting..."
Pei Donghan interrupted in a calm voice, "Are you sure those are what his computer screen showed?"
Uh.
The sales director wiped away sweat, "I haven’t been monitoring Mr. Pei down to the last detail, but his performance reports submitted every week have indeed been very well accomplished."
Pei Donghan suddenly laughed, gesturing for the person to leave.
Soon, the secretary brought in tea, and while setting down the teapot and turning to leave, heard Chairman Pei instruct, "Call the finance manager up here."
Close to the start of the semester, on the day Mr. Pei packed his computer and left the sales department, it was said that Chairman Pei closed the door and severely scolded the person in charge of finances.
No one knew why.
Half a month later, a new set of fortified financial defense systems was put into operation. Seeing everything getting back on track, the entire finance department finally settled down and breathed a sigh of relief.
"So, did you go there to learn, or to cause trouble?"
Upon learning of certain misdeeds, Jiang Shuyao posed a soul-searching question.
Pei Yan was sitting at the head of the bed, a computer resting on his thighs. The dense and rhythmic sound of the keyboard enveloped the night with an unusual tranquility.
Pei Yan didn’t have much to say about those forty days of grassroots living; he didn’t care what the outside world had to say either.
But since he had made the trip, it was imperative that he do something meaningful.
Those people always thought the world was too peaceful, until one fine sunny morning, just after opening a window and finishing a cup of coffee, before they could even enjoy the comfort of their office environment, a sudden storm struck. In just 0.5 seconds, it destroyed all their hard work of the past six months.
It wasn’t a nightmare, but a harsh reality, and a wake-up call.
A listed company’s financial system easily compromised, enough to drive Chairman Pei’s rage to the extreme.
Thankfully, the perpetrator had a conscience, having broken the net then personally woven a patch for it.
Seeing through appearances to the essence is an eternal truth.
Upon hearing about the finance department’s predicament, the sales department director carried out data verification overnight after returning. He gathered everyone to review the Crown Prince’s reports over and over until certain there were no discrepancies, feeling as if he had walked through the gates of hell.
Misfortune did not spread to those with the same roots.
The fact that Mr. Pei treated them as his own moved everyone to tears.
In the following year, whenever summer or winter vacations were approaching, heads of departments at Zhizhen would casually inquire about the Crown Prince’s internship plans for the term during post-meeting exchanges or coincidental run-ins over afternoon tea with Assistant Jiang.
All those in senior positions were used to the tough corporate games but feared the Crown Prince’s internship deeply.
No one could forget the finance department’s purgatory that lasted over two months last year; describing it as devastating was hardly an exaggeration.
One could imagine how much good karma a department would need from a past life to escape calamity during those four months of winter and summer.
Junior year soon came to an end, and Jiang Xubai ultimately bit the bullet, abandoning the prospect of direct graduate school admission and an opportunity to study abroad.
He didn’t know what he was waiting for, but judging from various actions and reactions of that couple, it was likely that their entrepreneurial dreams would be dashed.
Yet, he harbored an obsession, believing that at some turning point, a miraculous twist of fate would occur.
But Jiang Xubai failed to realize that miracles were the least reliable things in this world.
Not until the second half of senior year, with less than three months to graduation.
With fewer courses this term, it was harder to catch glimpses of Boss Pei and the Madam, and with some students prepping for postgraduate exams, classrooms were barely half full. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The base continued to operate, and Jiang Xubai was finally able to join the internship rush, having been relieved from his responsibilities by new management.
Gradually, he came to terms with reality, since the heir to a listed company couldn’t possibly slog away like the common folk at starting a business. Why not just take over the family business after graduation?
Hence, with a sense of resentment, Jiang Xubai interviewed with over twenty companies like a madman in just three days.
Among his peers, Jiang Xubai was fully qualified for ninety percent of the development positions on the job market. However, due to not yet having his degree certificate, many companies used this as an excuse to lower his internship salary. After going round in circles, the highest offer he received was a monthly salary of five thousand.
This was far less than what he had hoped for; no, the gap was significant.
So, during his last interview of the week, Jiang Xubai gave up all pretense and boldly demanded an internship salary of ten thousand a month from the HR with his eyes closed.
This was a joint-venture gaming company that had risen to the top five of Rong City’s IT industry in less than two years.
At the moment, after hearing his salary expectation, the HR manager stared at him as if he were insane, perhaps thinking that this person was suffering from delusions.
