While My Mage Wife Grinds, I Power Up Idly-Chapter 72: If You Can’t Stand It, Go Crash Yourself to Death
Chapter 72: Chapter 72: If You Can’t Stand It, Go Crash Yourself to Death
Under Vivita’s relentless assault, Ashu soon surrendered his "offering."
Before Ashu could fully relax, Anna suddenly said, "Huh? Guess who I just sensed?"
"Who?"
"Kakarim. The Cardinal of Kakase is personally coming toward the manor."
Hearing this, Ashu, while enjoying Vivita’s meticulous cleanup, furrowed his brow. "Is he really coming to beg for my forgiveness again?"
Forgive Kakarim’s son, Kakayather?
Ask Ashu a thousand times, and he’d give the same answer every single time—absolutely not.
Anyone who dared threaten Anna was trash. Trash who deserved to die.
Ashu gave Vivita’s head a gentle, affectionate stroke, then got up to go meet the incoming visitor.
He had Summon Holy Shield Knight ready and waiting—just for this.
...
When Ashu stepped outside the manor—
He saw Bishop Geoffrey standing there, along with five other elderly men dressed in similar robes.
They turned to look at him at the sound of his footsteps.
Ashu’s eyes swept across them. All of them were clearly Bishops. They had to be the local branch Bishops from towns under Kakase’s jurisdiction, likely invited here to attend the sermon.
At the front gate of the manor, Cardinal Kakarim slowly descended from the sky.
His eyes locked onto Ashu without any attempt at hiding his hatred. In his heart, he longed to crush Ashu into dust right then and there. But given the current circumstances, he couldn’t lay a finger on him.
"Gentlemen," Kakarim said, his voice cold, "now that everyone is present, I’ve decided to begin the sermon immediately. Please follow me to the Cathedral."
"Yes, Lord Kakarim," the branch Bishops echoed in unison.
Ashu didn’t answer. He simply stood there in silence, quietly waiting.
Before long—
Vivita and Anna came down the stairs, having tidied up their appearance.
They took their places beside Ashu, one on each side. A gentle breeze swept past, carrying with it a faint scent of heather from Vivita.
Ashu leaned slightly and asked in a low voice, "You didn’t wash?"
Vivita whispered back, "Your Grace the Saintess said that swallowing it would bring even more blessings from the Divine Mother Goddess, so... I did as instructed."
"...Alright then."
Ashu glanced at Anna, a bit exasperated.
Kakarim watched Ashu whispering with his women, and it felt like someone was pouring oil over his already raging fire. But he had to restrain himself.
Because—
Just the Demon Huntress Nun alone was already enough of a headache.
"Bishop Ashu, do you have any further questions?" he asked, barely keeping his tone steady. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"None," Ashu replied with a naturally pleasant smile. "Let’s head to the Church now."
Since Kakarim hadn’t come looking for a fight, Ashu couldn’t just summon the Holy Shield Knight out of nowhere—that would make him the aggressor.
And with so many branch Bishops watching, even a luminous saint would have to drink a bitter cup if things went sideways.
Since summoning the Holy Shield Knight wasn’t an option—and they still had quite a walk ahead—Ashu chose to be cautious.
That meant bringing Vivita along.
As long as he made it safely into the Church, even though Cardinal Kakarim held more authority there, the moment he stood before the Divine Mother Goddess’s statue, Kakarim wouldn’t be able to lay a finger on him. Not even if the luminous saint stood still and let him try. That absolute defense couldn’t be breached.
Kakarim gritted his teeth. In all his years in office, the Demon Huntress Nun had always been elusive. She would take a mission, complete it, report back—never lingering, never engaging more than necessary.
But once she met Ashu, it was like she’d been cursed. She clung to him and just wouldn’t leave.
They walked together.
They ate together.
And now, they even lived together.
Kakarim had every reason to suspect—this Demon Huntress Nun was definitely also sleeping with Ashu.
A woman with a body that fiery, sticking so closely to a man—unless he was a eunuch, there’s no way he hadn’t touched her.
That thought brought a wave of bitter defeat crashing over Kakarim.
This man didn’t just kill his son. He outdid him in every way.
His own woman looked like a fat pig, while Ashu’s women? One was a Saintess of unrivaled beauty, and the other, a voluptuous, clingy Demon Huntress Nun.
Harboring a burning hatred toward Ashu, Kakarim led the group to the front of the Cathedral before long.
Compared to the Cathedral in Riven Town, the one in Kakase was far more magnificent.
It was nearly three times taller than Riven’s Church. Sunlight spilled over its surface, glinting with a black-and-gold luster.
Ashu glanced at Anna.
The two shared the same thought—if they made love in the tower atop this Church, they could take in the entire view of Kakase while doing it.
"We’ve arrived."
Kakarim turned to face the group. "Everyone, we are about to begin a solemn and sacred sermon. Set aside all worldly distractions. Once the ceremony begins, no outsiders will be allowed inside."
He was practically saying it outright—Vivita and Anna would be left outside.
Anna felt uneasy about that.
Even though Ashu now had multiple layers of protection, the thought of leaving him alone in a room with his enemies still worried her.
Vivita, on the other hand, was different.
She gazed at the massive Divine Mother Goddess statue inside the Cathedral. As long as Ashu, a luminous saint, was beneath that statue, he would be absolutely safe.
That was the foundation of her faith in the Divine Mother Goddess.
And if danger did arise—even from just a short distance—any magical essence fluctuations exceeding a certain threshold, and she would shatter the door and kick Kakarim across the hall without hesitation.
"Don’t worry," Ashu said, staring at the Cathedral’s entrance.
As soon as the words left his mouth, he stepped forward.
That familiar feeling returned again.
Back in the Church at Riven Town, it had felt like being wrapped in the warm embrace of the Divine Mother Goddess. Here, with a much larger statue made of special material, the bridge between them felt even broader, the spiritual tether even stronger.
It felt as if every inch of his skin was enveloped in warmth.
Boom—
The Church doors slowly shut.
Kakarim had cleared the space. Only the eight of them remained.
As the doors sealed, sunlight poured through the high windows, casting long beams down from above.
No sooner had the sermon begun than Kakarim, practically trembling with eagerness, launched his accusation:
"May the radiance of the Divine Mother Goddess shine upon every inch of the land. However, one among us—Bishop Ashu—has abused his status as a luminous saint to trample the law within Kakase. He killed a man in broad daylight. That’s right, you’ve all heard by now—he murdered my son. I’m not here to grieve as a father. I’ve invited you all to witness this: can a luminous saint truly be allowed to murder an innocent citizen on the street?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, the five unfamiliar branch Bishops—clearly loyal to Cardinal Kakarim—immediately voiced their support.
"Of course not!"
"This is outrageous! How can a luminous saint act like this?"
"It’s a blatant violation of doctrine!"
"I seriously question His Excellency Ashu’s credentials as a luminous saint. How did he even pass the verification? With that kind of character, how could he possibly be worthy?"
"I agree completely."
The five Bishops ganged up on Ashu—only Geoffrey remained neutral.
In response—
Ashu smiled faintly.
You’re in the Church, and you didn’t even ask whose house you just walked into?
So what if you’re a Cardinal?
Even a Cardinal can be treated like a stray dog in the street. And now you’re trying to stir up a mob? Apply pressure?
"Shut your goddamn mouths. If you can’t handle it, go smash your heads into one of the Church pillars and die."
Ashu ignored their formal arrangement and walked forward, brushing past a visibly stunned Kakarim, and sat right at the feet of the Divine Mother Goddess statue.
Such crude, blasphemous words—
They may have been the first to ever echo within these sacred walls since the Church was built.
And what’s more, they were spoken directly in front of the Divine Mother Goddess herself.
Even Cardinal Kakarim felt a shiver of fear.
He feared divine retribution might fall from the heavens and consume them all.
The others immediately shrank back a few steps in fear.
Ashu, by contrast, sat down at the foot of the Divine Mother Goddess statue like he owned the place—legs spread, posture relaxed. He even leaned back against the statue’s foot.
"Ashu, what do you think you’re doing!?" Kakarim demanded.
"What am I doing? Listening to your sermon, obviously. Didn’t you say that’s why we were here? Or wait—don’t tell me you’re only capable of spewing bullshit?" Ashu replied with pure disdain on his face.
After all, it was just a small group here. With the doors shut, throwing around some dirty language could stay "in the family," so to speak.
It’s not like they’d dare go around later telling everyone, "Ashu’s language is too vulgar." That would be slapping the Divine Mother Goddess in the face—because who sits under her statue? Exactly.
Kakarim’s face turned bright red with rage.
He already wanted Ashu dead, and now he was being humiliated like this? It was almost enough to make him explode on the spot.
But with six branch Bishops present, Kakarim forcibly held back his murderous intent.
"Ashu, watch your mouth. This is a sacred Church, not a playground for your antics. According to Church doctrine, you should be standing down there—beneath the pulpit—not up behind me!"
Seeing Kakarim take that kind of verbal beating, face trampled on by Ashu without being able to strike back, the five branch Bishops loyal to him couldn’t bear it anymore.
"Your Eminence Kakarim, why waste words on him? Let me punish him right now!"
"I’ll deliver judgment!"
"We’re of equal rank—we have the authority to supervise!"
"Take him down! This is outrageous! Your Eminence, allow me to—"
As they spoke, the five launched their attack.
Verses from the Sacred Codex shimmered with magical essence, transforming into ten chains of radiant energy that shot toward Ashu.
Their goal: to restrain Ashu first, and then put him on trial.
However—
Though the ten chains looked fierce and full of momentum, they were nothing but paper tigers. Before they could even touch Ashu, a dazzling light erupted.
Within that radiant glow, a massive figure took form—
A Holy Shield Knight.
The knight’s enormous shield shimmered as it swung, and the ten chains instantly shattered into glowing fragments!
The Holy Shield Knight towered over the others—so large that most buildings couldn’t even contain him.
Ashu had specifically measured the Cathedral’s height before choosing to summon him here.
This dome was even taller than the one in Riven Town. The Divine Mother Goddess statue here was massive.
Even mounted on his enormous warhorse, the Holy Shield Knight only just reached the statue’s knees.
Everyone stared up at the colossal knight and his steed, utterly shocked.
They had seen many summoned creatures in their lives—but never anything like a Holy Shield Knight.
