Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 197: That Was Already Four Years Ago
Those projects are crucial to the Jacobs Family, how can you just say no and that’s it?
"Don’t change the subject, I’m not falling for your tricks!" Rosalind Jacobs bluffed, "Those projects were compensation from the Grayson Family for breaking off the engagement, they didn’t say it was because you cheated and fell for someone else! Why should I return them to you!"
Owen Grayson only acts submissive in front of Esther Carter, but in front of Rosalind Jacobs, he shows his true nature, impatiently saying, "Can you stop being stupid? Why would I suddenly call off the engagement when everything was fine, even a pig could figure out it’s because I found someone else! And if it was just about calling off the engagement, would my dad give you so many projects? Nonsense!"
"You!" Rosalind Jacobs was so angry she couldn’t speak. She dared to curse Esther Carter, but she had to think twice before cursing Owen Grayson.
These people outside, she didn’t dare to truly offend any of them. The only one she dared to scold was hiding inside.
Rosalind Jacobs was extremely frustrated.
Kylie Dalton sarcastically said, "Anyway, you have power and influence, what does our Jacobs Family mean to you? Whatever you say goes, we have no choice anyway."
After a pause, as if something occurred to her, she brightened up and came alive, "But no matter how domineering you are, you can’t shut our mouths, right? Esther Carter, that wretched girl, interfered in my daughter’s marriage, causing her to get dumped. If this gets out, it would ruin her reputation, wouldn’t it? Isn’t she an actress? The entertainment industry takes this kind of thing seriously, doesn’t it? If the Grayson Family doesn’t give us an explanation, don’t blame us for ruining her!"
Rosalind Jacobs also brightened up, snorting coldly at the sight of Owen Grayson’s suddenly darkened face, feeling delighted.
Isn’t he biased towards that bitch? When she ruins that bitch’s future, let’s see how he still protects her! 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
She’s not afraid of Owen Grayson’s distortions because she has reason on her side in this matter.
Owen Grayson glared at Kylie Dalton, "You dare!"
Kylie Dalton ignored him, instead looking at Mrs. Grayson meaningfully, "Mrs. Grayson, honestly, I don’t want things to get too ugly between our two families. I don’t want to offend the Grayson Family unless necessary. But my daughter was bullied by your son so badly, it’s your son’s fault no matter how you look at it, don’t you think?"
"What do you actually want?" Owen Grayson didn’t wait for his mother to speak, coldly staring at Kylie Dalton, "You must have a purpose for making a fuss about this, right? Why not just say what you want, and what it will take for you to let this go?!"
Kylie Dalton thought he was giving in, suddenly puffing up, arrogantly saying, "Let that little vixen kneel in front of Rosalind and admit her mistake, until Rosalind forgives her. Besides that... the Grayson Family has to give us two more projects!"
Owen Grayson was angered into laughter, incredulously looking at her, "Are you dreaming? There’s no way you’re bullying my girlfriend, and as for that second condition, if I record it, don’t you believe I could have you arrested in minutes? Do you know how much money a project involves? This is extortion!"
Kylie Dalton didn’t understand the law and was really scared by him. Seeing this, Rosalind Jacobs argued aggressively, "Whatever you say? You’re the one who asked us to make conditions, it’s not like we’re extorting you! Anyway, if you don’t agree, we’ll see you in the entertainment news!"
Owen Grayson had a cold expression, staring at Rosalind Jacobs, "There’s no room for negotiation?"
"None at all." Rosalind Jacobs crossed her arms, relentless.
"Alright then." Owen Grayson shrugged, "Then all the compensation previously given to the Jacobs Family is null and void, I don’t agree to any of your conditions. Do whatever you want, I just can’t believe that the great Grayson Family can’t protect a woman I love!"
Rosalind Jacobs and Kylie Dalton’s expressions changed, "No, the projects have already been given to us, how can you take them back!"
"They’re my family’s projects, I can give them to whoever I want!" Owen Grayson said, unfazed by their threats, sneering, "Moreover, I just want to make it clear, not only will you not get the projects, but from now on, the Grayson Family and the Jacobs Family are mortal enemies, don’t blame me for targeting you in the business world!"
Rosalind Jacobs and Kylie Dalton finally realized they were afraid. Their leverage was Esther Carter’s future, but if Owen Grayson really threw caution to the wind, what could they do?
The Jacobs Family still had to depend on the Grayson Family!
Kylie Dalton steadied herself, still struggling for control, "Impossible, you don’t have a say in the Grayson Family, this isn’t your call."
Owen Grayson spread his hands, "Don’t you know I’m my father’s only son? Isn’t it possible that I haven’t been involved in the company’s business because I didn’t want to, not because my father wouldn’t let me? No worries, because of you, I can take over the company, and I’ll make sure to destroy you before the Grayson Family falls!"
Rosalind Jacobs and Kylie Dalton fell completely silent.
Just then, the elevator doors opened, and Mason Jacobs walked out with a grim expression, glaring at his mother and sister, "Mom, Rosalind, what are you doing!"
On the way there, Special Assistant Wood had already briefed him on the situation. When he arrived, he found that the situation was worse than he thought. These two idiots had actually angered Owen Grayson!
Kylie Dalton saw her son and thought he was there to support her, but seeing his grim face, as if it could drip water, her heart skipped a beat. Was it possible she and Rosalind had really gotten into trouble?
"Mason..." She stepped forward, wanting to speak.
Mason Jacobs couldn’t care less about her, going straight to Owen Grayson, "Young Master Grayson, my mother and sister don’t know better, don’t hold it against them. Regarding your engagement to Rosalind, I’ve already negotiated with your father, the conditions will remain as agreed, the Jacobs Family won’t demand more."
Owen Grayson looked at him blankly, "I hope President Jacobs keeps his word and really can control his family, otherwise any malice directed at my girlfriend in the future, I’ll hold your Jacobs Family accountable for it!"
Mason Jacobs had never felt so aggrieved in his life, being threatened by a brat several years younger than himself. He was fuming internally, but showed compliance outwardly, "Rest assured, I’ll keep them in line."
Seeing Owen Grayson not speak, he tentatively said, "Then I’ll take them away now, so as not to disturb you any further."
Owen Grayson snorted, waving them off impatiently.
Like driving a dog away.
Mason Jacobs flashed a cold glare but said nothing, turning to glare at Rosalind Jacobs, "Embarrassment, hurry up and get out!"
Rosalind Jacobs and Kylie Dalton shivered under his glare, quickly getting into the elevator.
Mason Jacobs was the last to enter, casting a glance at Zion Fitzwilliam before leaving.
Zion Fitzwilliam watched him with a faint smile, pausing, nodding slightly as a gesture, before quickly departing.
Once they were gone, the hallway felt much more spacious, and Owen Grayson walked up to Zion Fitzwilliam to express his gratitude, "Mr. Fitzwilliam, thank you for coming here today, I’ll definitely thank you properly another day."
He should have invited him in for a drink, but Owen Grayson dared not say so, as the house wasn’t his, but Esther Carter’s, so he couldn’t make such a decision.
If he invited him in and Esther Carter kicked him out, how embarrassing would that be?
Zion Fitzwilliam nodded slightly, speaking frankly, "No need to thank me, I’m here for my wife, not for you."
Owen Grayson was momentarily stunned, awkwardly scratching his head, "Still, you helped us a lot. I have to thank you no matter what."
He then turned to his mother, who pursed her lips tightly, "Mom..."
Mrs. Grayson crossed her arms, looking at him sideways, "Were you serious about taking over the company’s matters just now?"
Owen Grayson was stunned for a moment, "Huh? I don’t..."
Just about to deny, he heard Mrs. Grayson’s cool tone, "You can’t always scare people away with big talk whenever your wife is bullied, right? To protect the woman you love, you need to have the ability yourself, don’t you think?"
Owen Grayson was taken aback, rare for him not to oppose the company takeover.
Mrs. Grayson knew this matter was almost settled, feeling a bit pleased and eager to show off to her husband when she returned. However, she didn’t want to leave just yet as she was quite curious about the girl inside...
Off to the side, Zion Fitzwilliam was standing there like a bamboo pole after Miles Morgan had left with his companions.
Owen Grayson found it strange; shouldn’t these two be saying their goodbyes now?
He couldn’t bring himself to chase them away nor dare to invite them inside to sit. For a moment, the three of them outside fell into an awkward silence.
Finally, Esther Carter opened the door, saw the three standing there, and curiously asked, "What are you all doing here?"
Before waiting for their reply, she happily said to Zion Fitzwilliam, "The great Mr. Fitzwilliam, is time tight? If not, why not come in and sit?"
She winked at Zion Fitzwilliam and sneakily glanced inside, whispering, "Elara just told me she’s preparing gifts for your parents. Are you taking her to Melbourne this weekend?"
Zion Fitzwilliam nodded, "Yes."
Esther Carter stepped aside to let him in, continuing to whisper, "Here’s a secret for you, Elara has a soft heart. The more you move her, the less she can refuse you."
Zion Fitzwilliam gave her a grateful look, then headed inside to find Elara Hale.
Mrs. Grayson and Owen Grayson looked expectantly at Esther Carter.
Since Zion Fitzwilliam had gone in, shouldn’t it be their turn?
Unexpectedly, Esther Carter glared at them and asked Owen Grayson, "You’re still not leaving?"
Since Mrs. Grayson had come along with Rosalind Jacobs, Esther didn’t have much fondness for her, and though she didn’t openly say it, her implication was clear; she wanted them both gone.
When questioned, Owen Grayson didn’t dare say much, "We’re leaving, we’re leaving."
Mrs. Grayson was exasperated with her son, and in a flash, she ran over to Esther Carter, took off the bracelet from her wrist, and thrust it into Esther’s hand, "This was given to me by Owen’s grandmother, it’s a family heirloom, I’m giving it to you!"
Then Owen Grayson quickly pulled her into the elevator.
Esther Carter looked curiously at the bracelet in her hand, a brilliant green, obviously valuable. Of course, it didn’t compare to the one Grandma Fitzwilliam had given to Elara.
She couldn’t understand if this was a gesture of goodwill from Mrs. Grayson. Was she really satisfied with her?
Why then would she support Rosalind?
Despite her confusion, she wasn’t about to miss out on a good deal. Unlike Elara, she wasn’t noble at all, rather opportunistic.
She treasured the bracelet carefully and returned inside.
Upon entering, she saw Elara Hale and Zion Fitzwilliam both casting gossipy looks at her. Zion Fitzwilliam raised an eyebrow, graciously choosing not to comment, but Elara, being her friend, did not hold back.
"You didn’t invite them in? Mrs. Grayson’s your future mother-in-law; it’s quite rude."
Elara Hale said, frowning.
Esther Carter felt inexplicably guilty and explained, "I haven’t even started anything with Owen Grayson yet, what future mother-in-law, it’s way too early. Besides, didn’t you see she was siding with Rosalind?"
Elara’s sharp eyes caught the bracelet in Esther’s hand and she paused, "Mrs. Grayson gave it to you?"
"Mm," Esther Carter replied, feeling slightly lacking in confidence, "Who knows why she suddenly gave me a bracelet and said it was a family heirloom, it’s so strange."
Elara Hale chuckled, "And you say she’s siding with Rosalind? I guess she was just dragged here last minute and didn’t expect this situation."
In that sense, Mrs. Grayson seemed quite innocent.
Esther Carter couldn’t refute her, awkwardly ran back inside to put the bracelet away.
When she came out, Zion Fitzwilliam said, "The Jacobs Family probably won’t dare trouble you again soon. I’ve had Miles organize someone to keep an eye on your building. If something does happen, Miles will bring people over immediately."
Esther Carter was moved to tears, "The great Mr. Fitzwilliam, you’re still the most reliable one."
Elara sure knows how to choose men, while she ended up with such poor choice.
"Elara needs to get back to work and I have things to attend to, so we’ll head out first." Zion Fitzwilliam stood up.
Esther Carter escorted them to the door but hesitated to go downstairs.
Zion Fitzwilliam held Elara Hale’s hand and went downstairs, and after getting into the car, Elara instinctively looked back.
Zion Fitzwilliam asked, "What’s wrong?"
Elara Hale shook her head, "Nothing."
She couldn’t shake the feeling someone was watching her, although there was clearly no one; maybe she was overthinking it.
Zion Fitzwilliam didn’t think much of it, driving while he said, "The Grayson Family’s relations aren’t particularly complicated. Mr. and Mrs. Grayson have good personalities; I thought Owen Grayson was just a spoiled brat, but surprisingly he’s alright, Esther wouldn’t be wronged by being with him."
Elara knew he was speaking diplomatically; Esther pursuing someone like Owen Grayson was more than just fair—it’s a significant improvement like her own situation.
They quickly arrived at the company, Zion Fitzwilliam dropped her off, then drove away.
Elara Hale walked into the company, just as she reached the entrance, she heard a familiar voice from behind, "Elara."
Elara Hale paused, turned around, and sure enough, it was Mason Jacobs.
Now seeing Mason Jacobs, Elara felt no emotional stir, as calm as water she asked, "Do you need something?"
Mason Jacobs showed a hint of hurt on his face, "We haven’t seen each other in a long time, you’re so cold towards me, Elara, we were so good together before, don’t you remember?"
He reminisced, "When we were first together, once after you finished work, it started pouring and you’d forgotten your umbrella. I went to pick you up only to realize I’d forgotten mine too. I ran soaked to find you, was laughed at by you, and we held hands running under a small shop awning to hide from the rain. It was really cold that day, you were shivering in my arms..."
Elara Hale interrupted him, a tranquil expression, "Mason Jacobs, that was four years ago."
