Wife's Bitter Revenge Against Neglectful CEO Husband-Chapter 158: He Never Learns
I shook my head in amazement. It took a really special man to be as clueless as King Heavenly. He’d parked in the fire lane directly in front of Crazy Code. He didn’t look like he’d been home. He was disheveled and appeared to be wearing the same clothes from the night before.
"What do you want me to do?" Wyla asked.
I sighed. I could wait him out and call Jake to handle him. I’d given Jake the morning off, thinking I’d get at least a temporary break from King after the arrest. Silly me. Or I could man up and face him head on. At least I would know what he was thinking that way.
"Let me out but stay nearby."
"I wouldn’t think of leaving as long as he is here."
"Thanks. You are a good friend."
I didn’t have to go to King. As soon as Wyla’s car stopped moving, King was headed my way. I opened the door to meet the storm head on. I dared him to hit me. It would be all the excuse I needed to destroy him.
"Teela, what were you thinking about? You can’t just have people arrested on a whim."
"It wasn’t a whim. I considered it seriously."
"I’ve never done anything to you. Why would you do that to me?"
"I believe I explained it last night, but we can go over it again."
"You are seriously upset at me for putting a security detail on you? With all the enemies you’ve created, you need all the protection you can get."
"Right now, the only enemy I’ve got is you. Does it make sense that I’d want the same guy who is causing me the most headaches to also be organizing my security? Think about it, King. Use that big brain of yours for something other than earning money.
"Not to mention that I have my own security team. No one can ask for better than Jake and his men, and I trust him, which is more than I can say for you."
"Yeah, and if Jake is so good, why isn’t he here now?"
"Because I thought I’d taken care of the problem." I poked a finger at King’s chest. "You are the problem, King."
"You’ll never get rid of me, Teela. I’m as much a part of your life as breathing."
Was that a threat or did he really think that he was so indispensable to me?
"King, be reasonable. I want you to withdraw your security team and leave Alec and me alone. I don’t need you interfering with our relationship."
King’s eyes narrowed. "What did Alec tell you?"
"He didn’t tell me anything. He did show me the pictures and messages you sent him." I shook my head. "King, what were you thinking talking about me like that? Do you really think I’d like you any better after basically painting me as a whore."
"I never!"
"You did. Go home and review everything you sent Alec. Take the information to your therapist. You trust her, right? Ask her opinion if you don’t trust mine, and obviously you don’t trust my opinion, or you’d respect my wishes."
"How can I trust your opinion when you make such bad decisions like divorcing me and sleeping with Alec? You need someone like me to think for you."
I didn’t think. I slapped him. I immediately regretted it, but I had to admit there was something satisfying about leaving a red mark on his cheek. I gritted out between clenched teeth, "King Heavenly get off my property. I will not allow you to stand here and insult me to my face."
"When did I insult you?"
"Now! Leave before I call the cops again. Don’t show up here again. I’m warning you. If you show up before me at my place of employment ever again, you’ll live to regret it."
King grabbed my arm, "Teela, don’t be like this. Just listen to me. I have your best interest at heart."
"No, King, you don’t even have your best interest at heart. We are not a good match. We’ve never been a good match. What you are doing is feeding an unhealthy obsession, and I won’t tolerate it."
I pulled out my phone to call the police, but King snatched the phone from my hand and tossed it.
"Oh, no you don’t," King said. "You’re not calling the cops on me again."
"She doesn’t have to. I’ve already called them," Wyla said as she put a hand on King’s shoulder. "I suggest you get your hand off Teela. I won’t let you assault her."
Stiff came rushing out of the building. "King, I suggest you listen. Teela has a dozen witnesses to this little exchange. If she wants to press charges, they will stick. How will it look to your shareholders if the headlines out you as a fucking abusive stalker who can’t get over his ex?"
"Stiff, stay out of this. It’s none of your concern."
"Anything that concerns Teela, concerns me. Don’t start a war that you can’t win, King. Walk away."
In the distance, sirens wailed. I had no idea if they were headed to us or not, but they were a reminder to King that I was serious.
King’s driver joined us. "Mr. Heavenly, let’s go home. You need to clean up before your morning management meeting."
King looked dazed as he took in all the people around him who looked at him as if he were the enemy. In time, he nodded.
"This isn’t over, Teela." His tone was softer, as if the fight had gone out of him. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"You’re right there," I murmured.
We watched until King pulled away for company property.
"Are you alright?" Wyla asked with a comforting hand on my back.
"Yeah. Back to work, everyone. Shows over."
Stiff said, "Teela, this guy is out of control."
"Yes, I know."
"What are you going to do about it?"
Estelle was approaching the door as we entered the building.
"Estelle, can you please apply for a restraining order against King and his lackies?"
"Of course, dear, is there anything else I can do for you?" Estelle asked.
I grinned. With her connections, there was a lot she could do, not the least of which was build a human wall around the property to keep King out. And, at some point, I might let her, but for now, I had my own plans.
"Thanks, Estelle, but I’ve got this covered. Just keep the company safe and on track. I depend on you to take care of Bea’s baby for me." I smiled and hugged the older woman.
I’d miss her if I couldn’t repair the damage King had done to my relationship with Alec.
Stiff followed me upstairs. "What now?"
"What projects do you need me on today?"
"I need you to clean up this mess with King before it gets out of hand. Employees get antsy when two mythical gods do battle in front of them."
"What about all the work you said you needed me to do?"
"I’ll call in CK. He’ll fill in for you. In fact, it might not be a bad idea to take a sabbatical from the office for a while."
"I just got back from a sabbatical."
"That sabbatical was for you. This one is for everyone else. I don’t want Crazy Code to be come ground zero. Do you know what I mean?"
I groaned. I wanted to argue with him, to tell him I had this and it wouldn’t come to that. I’d left my home with Alec. Now Stiff was asking me to leave my office as well. In some ways, King had already won. He was isolating me from the people I love, ostensibly so I would return to him.
Lettie had taught him well.
Only King wasn’t the one separating me. I was doing it to myself, wasn’t I? I’d walked away from Alec. He hadn’t left me. He’d done what we had agreed to do. He had come to me with concerns, and I’d used them as an excuse to once again distance myself. Granted, he was slow to commute the problem to me and his timing sucked big time, but in the end, he’d done the right thing. Now Stiff was giving me an out to do the same thing with my Crazy Code family.
"Stiff, is that an order or a suggestion?"
"Shit, Teela, suggestion. It’s got to be hard for you to show up every day when he’s waiting for you. If King can’t find you, maybe he will fade away."
"Oh, that won’t happen. The man has issues that time and distance won’t help. And don’t forget, he’s got men on my tail all the time. There is nowhere I can go that he can’t find me. Running won’t help."
"Then why did you walk out on Alec?"
Well, that was just annoying. I threw a pen at Stiff. How dare he make sense. Sure there was more to why I left than avoiding King, but that was beside the point. "Go back to your office. One of us should earning the big bucks."
