Chapter 39: Princess Taunt’s

Lin Xiaotian let out a soft sigh, his expression turning slightly apologetic as he looked toward Wang Haotian.

"Alas, I am truly sorry, Messenger Wang, that I was unable to provide any significant information regarding this matter."

Just as he was about to continue speaking, Zhao Lingyue suddenly interrupted him, her tone sharp and completely lacking courtesy.

"Do not make excuses if you cannot provide proper information, then simply admit that you are incompetent... or is it that you are deliberately hiding something from us?"

The moment her words fell, the atmosphere inside the hall instantly turned cold and tense.

Just as Lin Xiaotian was about to respond calmly and rebuke her in a more measured manner, Han Leu suddenly stepped forward, his expression turning furious. "You little brat do not dare to speak to our Sect Master in such a tone and manner!"

A faint killing intent leaked from his body as his aura surged slightly, causing the surrounding air to grow heavy.

For a brief moment, the entire hall fell into complete silence. Even Wang Haotian’s expression changed slightly, clearly not expecting the situation to escalate so abruptly.

At that moment, Lin Xiaotian’s face remained calm on the surface, but inside his mind, he was already raging wildly.

F*ck, Han Leu what the hell are you doing?

Do not go around offending my potential disciple before I even get the chance to recruit her properly!

Lin Xiaotian stood up, intending to mediate the situation before it escalated any further, while Wang Haotian also rose at the same time, clearly trying to maintain control over the conversation.

However, before either of them could speak, Zhao Lingyue’s eyes suddenly lit up as she looked closely at Han Leu, as if she had just realized something important.

Her voice rose slightly in pitch, carrying both surprise and urgency as she spoke without restraint.

"Aren’t you Yan Feng’s uncle? Then is that boy also here?"

Just as she was about to continue further, Wang Haotian immediately stepped forward and stopped her, his expression turning serious.

"Your Highness, you promised His Majesty... please restrain yourself."

However, before he could continue speaking, Zhao Lingyue turned her gaze directly toward Lin Xiaotian, her expression becoming unexpectedly calm and resolute.

"Sect Master Lin, could we have a private space to speak?"

Seeing this sudden shift, Lin Xiaotian felt a trace of confusion rise within his heart, as the situation had clearly taken an unexpected turn.

Nevertheless, he did not refuse and casually waved his hand, isolating a private space for the two of them without hesitation.

A few minutes later, the two emerged from the isolated space, but their expressions had completely changed compared to before.

Wang Haotian looked as if he had aged several years within that short span of time, his face carrying visible exhaustion and complexity.

He stepped forward slowly before clasping his hands toward Lin Xiaotian, his tone turning unusually solemn.

"Sect Master... could you please summon Yan Feng here?"

The moment Yan Feng stepped into the grand hall, his expression remained calm and distant, as if nothing in the room held any particular importance to him. So, this is where she chose to come... after everything.

He cupped his hands slightly toward Lin Xiaotian before speaking in a steady and indifferent tone. "Sect Master... you called for me?" Just another matter... nothing more.

Before Lin Xiaotian could respond, Zhao Lingyue had already risen to her feet, her eyes trembling slightly as they locked onto his figure. He’s here... he’s really here

For a brief moment, her usual arrogance completely vanished, replaced by an overwhelming wave of emotions she could barely contain. Why... why does he look so distant...?

She took a step forward instinctively, her lips parting slightly as if she wanted to say something she had held back for far too long. "Yan Feng... I—"

However, before she could finish, Yan Feng’s voice cut through the air like a cold blade. "Your Highness... please maintain proper distance. There is nothing left between us.

Her steps froze instantly. The words were not loud, yet they carried a distance far colder than any anger she had prepared herself to face. He... won’t even let me come closer...

For a brief moment, the hall fell into a suffocating silence, as even the faintest movement seemed out of place.

Wang Haotian’s brows tightened slightly, a trace of unease flashing across his expression.

Zhao Lingyue stood there motionless, her fingers trembling faintly as if she had forgotten what she intended to do. No... I cannot leave like this... not again...

Then, as if something inside her finally shattered, she rushed forward without caring about anything else. Before anyone could react, she had already thrown herself into his arms.

The entire hall froze. Wang Haotian’s expression changed drastically, his body tensing as if he wanted to intervene but ultimately restrained himself. Your Highness... what are you doing...?

Han Leu’s eyes darkened instantly, his aura trembling faintly as suppressed anger rose within him.

Lin Xiaotian, however, only narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze flickering between the two with growing interest. ...So that’s how it is.

Yan Feng did not move even in the slightest.

He stood there like an immovable pillar, his arms remaining at his sides as if her presence made no difference to him at all. You made your choice... so why are you here again?

Her hands clutched tightly onto his robes, her body trembling faintly as she buried her face against him. Just this once... let me stay like this... just for a moment... 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"I did not have a choice..." Her voice was soft and unsteady, completely stripped of her former pride. "If I had chosen you... you would not be standing here today."

The words fell gently, yet they struck far heavier than any blade. The hall fell into complete silence, as if no one dared to disturb the weight of her words.

Yan Feng’s gaze flickered slightly for the first time. ...What does that mean?

A faint warmth spread briefly between them as her aura fluctuated subtly, unnoticed by everyone except Lin Xiaotian, whose eyes narrowed imperceptibly.

Silent tears slipped down her face as she tightened her grip for a brief moment longer. I’m sorry... I’m so sorry...

"I know... I no longer have the right to stand by your side..." Her voice trembled, yet she forced herself to continue. "But if someday... you forgive me"

Her breath faltered slightly. "Just... do not hate me."

Yan Feng remained silent.

Slowly, she loosened her grip. Her hands lingered for a brief moment before finally withdrawing completely.

If I stay any longer... I won’t be able to leave...

From her sleeve, she took out a jade token and placed it into his hand, her fingers brushing lightly against his.

"I have no right to explain... so let this speak for me."

Yan Feng glanced down briefly at the token resting in his palm.

Without waiting for a response, Zhao Lingyue turned around immediately. She did not dare to look back.

Her footsteps echoed faintly through the hall before gradually fading away. Silence lingered heavily in the air.

No one spoke for a long moment, as the weight of what had just occurred pressed down on everyone present.

Yan Feng stood there quietly, his expression calm, his posture unchanged but his fingers tightened ever so slightly, betraying what his expression refused to show

Wang Haotian hurriedly stepped forward and clasped his hands respectfully, bowing slightly toward Lin Xiaotian as his expression turned solemn. "Sect Master... we shall take our leave."

Lin Xiaotian nodded calmly, his face showing no visible change as if everything that had just transpired was of little consequence to him.

Without lingering any longer, Wang Haotian quickly followed after Zhao Lingyue, his steps carrying a trace of urgency as he exited the grand hall.
