Witty Wife, Better Life-Chapter 801 - 791: Cinema Terror (Part 2)
Chapter 801: Chapter 791: Cinema Terror (Part 2)
Shen Yunfang frowned, what was wrong with this man? His shouting only made everyone more anxious. Several people had already fallen in the crush. If, like him, they pushed forward without care, wouldn’t this lead to a stampede?
Seeing the man in front about to push forward again, Shen Yunfang didn’t hesitate and fiercely kicked at the back of his knee.
The tall and burly man in front, caught off guard by the strike, instantly bent his knee and fell to the ground.
"Motherfucker, who the hell kicked me?" The man abruptly turned his head to look back.
Shen Yunfang, already leading the two children, watched him with a vigilant face.
The man got up from the ground and after looking at the mother and her two kids, he decided it wasn’t them and began scanning the others with a menacing gaze, hoping to find the person who had attacked him.
Pangpang and Manman, the two children, were expressionless, having clearly seen their mother’s action. Watching the uncle in front turn around searching for the assailant, they both tightly grasped their mother’s hands, trying to look as innocent as possible.
With their father not around and only their mother to rely on, if the uncle in front discovered what happened, their mother certainly wouldn’t be able to fight him off.
Just then, a few gunshots rang out from not too far away.
Upon hearing this, Shen Yunfang’s face changed, her first thought being that her husband was in danger.
Li Hongjun had just gone after that suspicious figure.
Anxiously, she looked up towards the exit, wanting to gauge how long it would take to get through, only to see the robust man looking for the attacker’s face also change.
Her eyes narrowed dangerously.
Logically, unless familiar with the sound, most people wouldn’t associate the noise with gunshots. It sounded like firecrackers to the uninitiated, only those who had heard or fired a gun before would recognize it immediately.
This man in front definitely recognized the sound of gunshots.
Without a word, Shen Yunfang carefully scrutinized the man in front, noting that he didn’t seem like a soldier or a policeman. So why was he so sensitive to the sound of gunfire?
Although she pondered this, in reality only a moment had passed.
As if triggered by something, the man no longer cared about who had kicked him and reached into his chest.
Shen Yunfang instinctively felt danger and pulled the two children behind her.
Indeed, when the man pulled his hand out from inside his clothes, he was holding a black handgun.
Shen Yunfang couldn’t identify the make, but that didn’t stop her from recognizing it as a handgun.
"Dare to kick me, I’ll fucking kill you all," the man said, and as he finished, he raised his hand, preparing to shoot behind him.
Shen Yunfang released the child’s hand she was holding, and as he raised his arm, she quickly stepped forward, using the grappling technique Li Hongjun had taught her to clamp down ferociously on the man’s wrist.
"Ah..." A few people standing nearby, upon seeing the gun in the man’s hand, panicked, their faces draining of color, and began pushing forward desperately without regard for anything else.
With a gunman in front of them and an inextinguishable fire behind, even a fool knew they had to push forward.
"It was you, you little bitch." The man, realizing Shen Yunfang had approached and was the woman who had kicked him, glared at her with wide eyes as they both struggled for power.
"Smack smack..."
The man hadn’t expected the woman grabbing his wrist to be so strong. He couldn’t budge her despite being a big man. Thinking quickly about his situation, he decided the best option was to fire two shots while he still had the gun in hand. However, the gun was pointed toward the ceiling at the time, and although the shots were loud, they didn’t harm anyone in the crowd.
Shen Yunfang, expressionless, continued to control his wrist and kicked fiercely between his legs.
"Ah..." Another coarse howl from the man echoed throughout the movie theater.
After Shen Yunfang snatched the handgun, she immediately disengaged the safety and tucked it into her bag. Seeing that the man was temporarily incapacitated, she turned to look for the children.
Pangpang and Manman watched with sparkling eyes as their mother fought the criminal and emerged victorious.
"Both of you, bend down, unbutton your shirts, and cover your noses so you don’t inhale the smoke," Shen Yunfang instructed.
The fire in the cinema spread quickly due to flammable materials. What started as a single spot of flames had now engulfed nearly half of the seats. The blaze originated at the back and was close to the exit; it seemed like it would soon spread even further.
Shen Yunfang turned to check the exit at the front. It was still filled with the sounds of chaos, but people had started to slowly move toward the outside, perhaps startled by the gunshots.
Based on this pace, it would likely take several minutes to escape. She thought for a moment, then pulled the children to the side. Standing in the middle at their height, they could easily be trampled. To ensure safety, they couldn’t afford to push forward with the crowd.
"Don’t panic. Mom has a water cup. Let’s soak our clothes in water and cover our mouths and noses. Try to crouch and move..." As Shen Yunfang spoke, she took out a water bottle from her bag. This was something she’d stored in her spatial storage. She opened it and poured water over her scarf.
"Mom, I know. The teachers taught us already," Pangpang interrupted, watching her move and reaching out to help her spread the scarf to make soaking it easier.
In a short while, all three had wet cloths covering their mouths and noses, squatting behind, inching forward with the crowd ahead.
"Don’t be scared; Dad is right outside. Once we get out, we’ll see Dad," Shen Yunfang reassured the children and herself, glancing back at the flames to gauge their progress. The temperature inside the cinema had clearly risen due to the fire, making the danger of the situation palpable.
Yet with the flames quickly approaching from behind and the crowd still so plentiful and panicked ahead, Shen Yunfang could feel the oxygen thinning as they crouched.
This wasn’t working; at this rate, the crowd wouldn’t escape before the fire reached them.
After assessing the situation from behind and ahead, Shen Yunfang made up her mind, took hold of the two children, and crouched, weaving through a row of seats towards the wall.
"Don’t be afraid, kids. It’s getting hard to breathe over here, and this isn’t a good spot to be in. Hasn’t your teacher told you to stay calm in a fire? Not to run around blindly or yell, because smoke and flames can get pulled into your airways? Right now, it’s too crowded up front, and we can’t get out, so Mom will take you to look for a window. Remember what they said, if there’s no door, use a window. Heh, today we’re going to try using a window," Shen Yunfang murmured as she led her children towards the back, talking incessantly.
"People up front, it’s too crowded to get out here; try to find a window to jump through if you can," Shen Yunfang reached the base of the wall, where the air was slightly fresher than by the exit. She removed the scarf from her nose and shouted forcefully toward the exit.
