Witty Wife, Better Life-Chapter 804 - 794 Cinema Horror (Five)
Chapter 804: Chapter 794 Cinema Horror (Five)
The police officers knew there was still a criminal inside, so a few of them immediately used their extensive training to try and climb through the small window to take a look. Just as one of the officers was climbing through the window, Li Hongjun was also climbing up.
The young officer clearly recognized Li Hongjun; upon seeing him, his face lit up with surprise. After all, they had just heard gunshots inside, and it was uncertain whether Li Hongjun or the criminal was still alive. Now that Li Hongjun had appeared, it meant the criminal had been subdued.
To be the first one to climb up involved a great risk, and now, knowing the criminal was captured and he himself was unharmed, how could he not be thrilled?
"How did it go, was the criminal subdued?" the young officer asked nervously.
"Yes, the criminal had a gun, and it was extremely dangerous, but I have killed him," Li Hongjun answered sternly.
"That’s good, that’s good. I’ll go down first, you come out, and then we’ll go back in to check," the young officer said, his heart finally at ease knowing the criminal was dead.
So, the young officer climbed up the same way and then back down.
Li Hongjun then climbed out of the window and jumped down, steadying himself.
The officers watching were full of admiration; they did not have such agility.
After Li Hongjun made way, the officers began climbing the wall to go inside and assess the situation. The situation at the entrance was even worse, with a stampede occurring and several people burned severely. The fire could not be extinguished right away, so they had to enter from this side to check the situation first.
Shen Yunfang’s eyes never left the scene. Seeing someone come out, she immediately turned to ask the female officer guarding her, "Comrade, could you watch the children for me? My husband has come out, and I want to go see him." She also pointed to the window.
The young female officer, seeing Li Hongjun jump down from the window and thinking of the couple’s dire situation, felt sympathy for them. The area was full of police officers, so there was no worry about the woman escaping; additionally, they were also holding two hostages, so she nodded in agreement.
With the children taken care of, Shen Yunfang headed toward the crowd. Meanwhile, Li Hongjun, having steadied himself, first looked around, and upon spotting his wife, he ignored the praise from others around him, said "Excuse me," and made his way through the crowd toward her.
"How are you?"
"Are you injured?"
The two asked simultaneously.
"I’m fine, but what about you? I saw you fall several times inside," Li Hongjun solemnly reached out to touch his wife’s back.
His words made Shen Yunfang aware of the searing pain in her back, "Ouch, ’d forgotten about the pain."
Seeing his wife’s pained expression, Li Hongjun frowned as well, "Let’s not talk about it; let’s have a doctor look at it right away."
"Please come this way; we have an ambulance here," a police officer timely intervened. "This female comrade can get checked by a nurse in the ambulance."
"Thank you," Li Hongjun nodded, then led her toward the ambulance the officer was guiding them to.
"How is it?" Shen Yunfang quietly asked.
She was very concerned about the situation of the criminal inside.
Li Hongjun pulled her aside and said seriously, "It’s lucky that the criminal saw you were a woman and didn’t draw his gun during the fight. Otherwise, you wouldn’t see tomorrow’s sun. But that criminal was too dangerous. While I was fighting him, I had no choice but to seize his gun and kill him. A shot ended his life."
The last sentence was spoken in a very soft voice, only Shen Yunfang heard it.
Shen Yunfang breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t that she was heartless, but rather to protect her own safety. Moreover, the criminal was utterly ruthless, so his death was well deserved.
Knowing it was inconvenient to talk here, Shen Yunfang didn’t ask further after learning about the outcome. When they reached the ambulance, the two of them got on together.
Li Hongjun still worried about his wife and wanted to know the extent of her injuries as soon as possible.
After the doctor understood Shen Yunfang’s condition, he asked her to take off her clothes and lie on the examination bed.
Once she took off her clothes, Li Hongjun felt a chill; her entire back was bruised badly, looking very frightful.
The doctor checked her thoroughly and finally concluded, "It’s nothing serious, just looks scary. I’ll prescribe some medicine, and it should heal after a few applications at home."
Shen Yunfang had no trouble undressing, but she felt pain everywhere when putting her clothes back on. Li Hongjun, with a stern face, helped his wife get dressed and then consulted the doctor about the treatment in detail.
Pangpang and Manman, whom Shen Yunfang had left with the female police officer, looked forlornly as their mother had rushed off to find their father and then watched as their father, without giving them a glance, took their mother to the ambulance. The two went aboard and hadn’t come down since.
"Brother, do Mom and Dad not want us anymore?" Manman asked with a hint of tears.
She had just experienced a fire and encountered a criminal; she was still a child and very scared. Why wouldn’t anyone come to comfort her?
"Don’t worry, there’s still Brother. Brother will stay with you," Pangpang tried to sound strong. He was ten and the older child; even if in their parents’ eyes only the other existed, he could still take good care of himself and his sister.
At that time, Li Hongjun and his wife were exuding a chill in the ambulance, unaware that this irresponsible couple had already hurt their children’s hearts.
Later, following the request of the police comrades, the family of four went to the nearest police station in a police car to give statements about the incident that had occurred in the cinema that afternoon.
Apart from concealing the final act of killing the criminal, the couple reported everything as it happened.
What was initially a simple fire incident turned complicated upon the discovery of two armed criminals.
Therefore, the police handled it very cautiously.
Li Hongjun and his wife understood the seriousness of the matter and cooperated well with the police, who had arranged for the children to sleep elsewhere, and they stayed at the police station all afternoon.
Gradually, news from the cinema came in.
Firstly, the fire was completely extinguished. Firefighters found flammable and explosive materials under the back seats of the cinema, which explained why the fire couldn’t be put out initially by some comrades and why it spread so quickly.
Secondly, due to a stampede at the exit of the cinema, evacuation was delayed. This incident resulted in seven deaths and twenty-nine injuries, including eight severe ones.
Lastly, Li Hongjun bravely fought the criminals, capturing one and killing another.
The captured criminal was immediately brought in for interrogation but refused to cooperate, presenting significant challenges for the investigation. When Li Hongjun and his family left the police station, they still hadn’t managed to get the criminal to talk.
