Witty Wife, Better Life-Chapter 818 - 808 The Patient Needs to Rest
Chapter 818: Chapter 808 The Patient Needs to Rest
It was after one o’clock in the afternoon when Zhang Ping was wheeled out of the operating room.
"Doctor, how is my husband doing? Is he going to make it?" Zhao Lili charged forward, crying hysterically.
Shen Yunfang frowned from behind, thinking to herself, Is this something a wife should say? It almost sounded like she was eager for her man to die.
The young nurse pushing the hospital bed didn’t indulge her. Seeing Zhao Lili’s intent to throw a fit, she sternly snapped, "Hey, what are you, a family member, trying to do, making such a racket? Do you want the patient to die faster or what? Shut your mouth and be quiet, the patient needs to rest."
Well, another one who doesn’t mince words.
Some people are just nasty inside, aren’t they? Scolded, Zhao Lili settled down, wiping away tears quietly as she followed them to the ward.
Shen Yunfang shook her head as she followed, thinking that it really does take a nasty person to tame another.
Seeing that Zhao Zhiliang had also entered the ward to take care of the patient, Shen Yunfang slowed down, caught up with the doctor, and inquired about Zhang Ping’s current condition.
The attending physician treating Zhang Ping was a bespectacled and genteel man in his forties. He patiently and in detail explained Zhang Ping’s condition to Shen Yunfang. But once the doctor started, he rattled off a list of medical jargon that Shen Yunfang could scarcely follow. Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore and interrupted his endless flow, "Doctor, can you explain it to me in layman’s terms? I’m having a bit of difficulty understanding all that medical jargon."
The doctor then seemed to realize his mistake and patiently re-explained in plain language, "The patient was unconscious when he was brought in, and his injuries appeared severe. After our treatment and examination, we found that he suffered multiple falls, but the actual injuries are not as serious as they seemed. You as family members can rest assured. The patient’s more serious injuries are to the arm and head.
The patient’s upper arm bone was broken, which we’ve just properly set and cast in plaster. As for the head, it’s not so easy to say. We’ve checked thoroughly and found no major wounds on his head, but since he was unconscious when he arrived and just said he felt dizzy, it’s possible that he suffered a head injury when he fell. Whether there’s a concussion or not, we’ll have to observe him over time..."
Shen Yunfang listened and nodded, feeling relieved. According to the doctor, all of Zhang Ping’s injuries were superficial and would heal with time.
After thanking the doctor, Shen Yunfang also entered the ward.
Zhang Ping had been moved into a four-person ward, where two people were already hospitalized. With Zhang Ping, that made three, and one bed was still empty.
"How is he, has he woken up?" Shen Yunfang asked as she approached the bed.
"He’s awake," Zhao Zhiliang responded.
Shen Yunfang walked over to the bed, where Zhang Ping, pale-faced, strained to smile. "Sister-in-law, I’m okay, sorry for the trouble."
Shen Yunfang smiled and said, "Don’t talk like that, no one wants to get hurt. Just focus on getting better, don’t worry about anything else. I’ve just spoken with the doctor, and your injuries aren’t serious, all superficial wounds. They’ll heal up fine. But you might have hit your head, so be aware of that. If you feel dizzy or nauseous, tell the doctor right away."
Zhang Ping was touched by his sister-in-law’s concern, but when he tried to nod, the world spun. He closed his eyes in discomfort, waiting for the feeling to pass before speaking.
"Zhang Ping, what’s wrong with you? Don’t scare me. Doctor, doctor! Hurry, someone’s not doing well." Zhao Lili had just heard from Shen Yunfang that it was all external injuries and she was somewhat displeased. What did she mean, worried that they’d spend money, right? But the more she acted like this, the more they’d have to stay in the hospital for a few more days, spending her money.
Seeing Zhang Ping frown and close his eyes, clearly in discomfort, she seized the opportunity to make a scene.
Shen Yunfang found herself squeezed to one side, frowning as she watched her busy herself around the sickbed.
"I’m fine, what are you calling a doctor for?" Zhang Ping, regardless of whether he was feeling dizzy or not, opened his eyes and spoke.
"Still fine? You’re like that and still saying you’re fine, what would you say is wrong then?" Zhao Lili, with her back towards everyone, was making eyes at her own man.
Zhang Ping knew just by looking at his wife that her old problem had flared up again, but he really didn’t have the energy to address it. He could only close his eyes and say weakly, "Can you keep it down a bit? Your loud voice is making my head spin."
Right at that moment, a doctor hurriedly opened the door to the ward, "What’s happening? Who called me?" freēwēbnovel.com
"Doctor, it’s, it’s, my man just said he felt dizzy, and he closed his eyes, please examine him thoroughly," Zhao Lili, undeterred, grabbed the doctor’s white coat while casting glances towards Shen Yunfang.
"Hey, comrade, let go of me and stand aside, I need to examine the patient."
Zhao Lili was also pushed aside.
The examination took over ten minutes, after which the doctor breathed a sigh of relief, "It’s nothing serious; it’s likely dizziness caused by a brain concussion. Further observation is still needed however..."
"Oh my, it’s a head injury that’s gone all the way to the brain, what should we do now?" Zhao Lili reacted with a look as if all hope was lost.
"We can’t reach any conclusions right now, as I just said, further observation is needed. Right now the patient feels dizzy, but we have to wait a bit to see if there are any symptoms of neurological dysfunction such as nausea, vomiting or palpitations before making a final diagnosis. However, please rest assured, even if it is a brain concussion, it’s a minor one without any sequelae. What the patient needs most now is bed rest and quiet. Your shouting is very unfavorable for the patient’s recovery; he needs a peaceful environment to prevent stimulating the brain, which could worsen the condition."
The doctor went on at length with instructions, completely bewildering Zhao Lili, and then left at a leisurely pace.
"Comrade lady, our patient also needs rest, so could you please not shout like you did just now in the future? If you cause my father’s condition to worsen due to stimulation, you will be held responsible," a man sitting on a bench taking care of someone sternly warned Zhao Lili.
"We’re very sorry, we’ll be more careful in the future," Zhao Zhiliang saw that Zhao Lili was not speaking out, so he quickly came forward to smooth things over.
The other man wasn’t looking for an argument, and seeing that their attitude was good, he let the matter go.
"What kinds of people are these, making such a fuss."
Zhao Lili’s constant muttering was caught by Shen Yunfang nearby. She couldn’t be bothered to deal with such a mindless person; after a few stings, she would learn to behave.
A few people spent the whole afternoon in the ward making amends, while Zhang Ping, who was dizzy, had already fallen asleep. The conversation was mainly between Zhao Lili and Shen Yunfang in hushed tones about the cost of treatment and the money for compensation, and so on.
Of course, she didn’t put it so bluntly, but anyone could understand the implications of what she said.
Shen Yunfang didn’t give any promises regarding these issues. The specific circumstances of the incident still needed further investigation, and it also had to be determined whose fault it was. Of course, even if it was Zhang Ping’s own fault, as an employer, Shen Yunfang was definitely willing to cover the medical fees, but she could not agree to any excessive demands.
