Wizard: Adventures in Two Worlds-Chapter 651 - 9: Banquet
"Bang!"
The champagne, fully chilled, nevertheless had a significant pressure difference inside and out; as the iron ring was pulled open, the cork was propelled high by the liquid inside, and the white ’fruit wine’ sprayed forward.
"Oh!"
"Splatters..."
The crowd broke into a clamor.
Carl smiled at everyone and gestured, saying:
"Firstly, I must thank BHP Group for their support. Without the group’s support, my research would have been difficult to continue."
"Secondly, I must thank Lady Monica; it was she who gave me the opportunity to engage in scientific work."
"Once more, I must thank all my colleagues and students in the experiment group. Without you, I couldn’t have achieved this either..."
"Haha..." Blaze laughed heartily below:
"Professor Karl, your speech is too official, too formal. You are the key to everything."
"To you!"
"To Professor Karl!"
"Cheers!"
Everyone raised their glasses, laughter filled the air.
This venue was the top floor of the hotel, specifically designed for hosting large banquets, and today it was Carl’s stage.
"I didn’t expect Professor Karl’s research to yield results so quickly." Riley held a glass of juice below:
"Monica, you’ve really found yourself a treasure this time."
"Indeed." Monica licked the corner of her mouth, her red lipstick exuding a tempting gloss:
"My luck has always been good."
"Professor Karl’s research helps to improve and cure several congenital diseases, bringing hundreds of millions in annual revenue to BHP Group, and this is just the beginning. I believe the professor’s subsequent research will have even greater economic value."
"Hundreds of millions!" Riley’s face flushed:
"Recently, representatives from several pharmaceutical companies have approached Carl; you need to be careful not to let him be poached."
"Don’t worry." Monica chuckled softly:
"We’ve signed a contract with Professor Karl; he has not only received a lump sum but also a share of the drug profits. And furthermore..."
"As far as I know, Professor Karl is not very interested in money; he is a true scholar."
"How much money?" Riley asked curiously:
"How much did you give Carl?"
"Haha..." Monica laughed softly:
"That’s confidential, but Professor Karl is certainly financially independent now."
"At least to you, he is."
"Ah!" Riley sighed:
"Actually, Professor Karl isn’t considered old, wouldn’t you agree? Although his looks are just average, his demeanor is quite nice."
"Uh..." Monica’s gaze was peculiar:
"Riley, you’re about to get married."
"It’s already off." Riley shrugged:
"Love is like a Phantom in the distance, always elusive, far less solid than money."
"Just as we started planning the wedding, so many conflicts arose, and we could already foresee the turmoil after marriage, so we should just separate and calm down."
?
Monica shook her head lightly.
Riley was her good friend; she also knew Riley’s fiancé and was initially optimistic about their relationship.
Who would have thought...
Just like before, who would have thought she would choose to break up despite never wanting to be apart from Blaze for a moment?
"Bang!"
"Bang bang!"
With the help of a certain BHP Group board member, a series of champagnes were opened, prompting cheers from the crowd.
"Let’s not talk about unhappy things."
Monica perked up:
"Today is Professor Karl’s celebration banquet, have a few more drinks."
"Yes!"
Riley nodded.
"Monica." Blaze approached, dressed in a fitted gown, bowed slightly and extended one hand:
"Would you honor me with a dance?"
"It would be my pleasure."
Monica smiled sweetly, extending her hand to shake his, and the two joined the crowd with nimble steps.
Champagne, music, dance...
BHP Group executives surrounded Carl, congratulating him and discussing upcoming arrangements.
"Professor Karl."
Eugene, a bald man in his fifties, smiled as he spoke:
"I heard you plan to buy a house; BHP Group has channels in this regard. Do you need help?"
"No need."
Carl shook his head, smiling:
"I’m interested in an old property on the outskirts of the city; the price is reasonable. If there are no issues, I’ll buy it."
"An old property on the outskirts?" Eugene frowned:
"The houses over there are not exactly young."
"Yes."
Carl nodded:
"It’s a mansion from over 600 years ago and once belonged to an Earl named Begman. Perhaps it’s fate, so I plan to buy it."
"Hmm..." Eugene scratched his chin:
"Professor Karl, even if a centuries-old house is well-maintained, some parts might be outdated."
"Perhaps..."
"You should reconsider."
"Really?" Carl seemed lost in thought:
"Then I’ll look into it further."
He didn’t intend to reconsider, as the property was originally his, holding past sentimental value.
Besides,
It has something he’s interested in.
......
As one of the earliest members of Carl’s lab, Barro naturally received an invitation to the banquet.
While others gathered together, he went to the food area, starting to feast eagerly.
Since his body underwent changes, he found his appetite and digestion greatly increased.
He felt hungry early on.
"Barro."
"Hmm..." Barro hurriedly swallowed the cake in his mouth, awkwardly wiping the cream from the corners of his mouth:
"Trish, you’re here too."
"Yes."
Trish had long blue hair, her appearance not particularly outstanding, with plenty of freckles on her cheeks.
But every time he saw her, Barro felt his heart race uncontrollably.
"Thanks to your support recently, otherwise I really wouldn’t know how to continue my studies."
Trish sighed:
"I’ve found a suitable buyer for some of my father’s belongings, I’ll pay you back once it sells."
"No rush." Barro waved urgently:
"I don’t lack money now."
"Professor Karl gave bonuses to the lab staff yesterday; I got ten thousand pounds, and if you need it, I can lend it to you."
"Ah!" Trish’s eyes widened:
"Ten thousand pounds?"
"Yes." Barro scratched his head, grinning:
"I must say, Professor Karl is a very generous elder. Each lab member got eight thousand pounds, and because I was with him the earliest, I got ten thousand pounds, plus next month the stipend increases by three hundred."
"Helping in the lab now isn’t much less than working outside."
Trish looked envious.
She had never worried about money before; only after her father, Jim, unexpectedly passed away did she realize its importance.
Her father didn’t leave her much inheritance, and the school fees are already unbearable.
Thankfully, Barro was willing to help.
Ten thousand pounds!
Trish licked her lips, lowered her head, as if having made some decision, reached out and grabbed Barro.
"Follow me."
"Ah!"
Barro was momentarily stunned, instinctively following.
In the corner.
Several concealed gazes quietly withdrew.
"The target has left the banquet, follow."
"The girl named Trish was detected to have weak Extraordinary Power, and her consciousness is marked..."
"Be aware of the Nightwatcher!"
"Whoosh!"
In the Dark Night.
A bat descended from the top of the building, circling in the air.
Carl stood at the floor-to-ceiling window with his wine glass, watching the figures below, chuckling and shaking his head.
