{Chapter: 230 Love Deceived}

"Thor's gone. I'll go retrieve those documents and pieces of equipment for you now," William said, rising to his feet without hesitation.

Jane quickly reached out, worry etched across her face. "William, no. It's too dangerous. Tom, forget about those things. They're not worth the risk."

William turned and offered a calm, reassuring smile. "No, Jane. A man must stand by his word. If I can't even keep a simple promise, then what kind of man would I be? Don't worry about it. Just stay here and wait. I'll be fine."

Without giving her a chance to argue further, he turned and walked determinedly toward the guardrail, disappearing into the shadows.

"William..." Jane clenched her fists and pounded the ground in frustration. "Honestly, what is wrong with that guy?"

"He's not going to get into trouble, It's impossible for him to get into trouble." Pepper murmured, her voice low and laced with scorn. "He's just putting on a show to impress you."

Jane narrowed her eyes and glanced sideways at Pepper. "I really don't get it. Why do you have such a big problem with Tom? What did he ever do to you?"

Pepper looked at her coldly. "If he were really just Tom, it wouldn't matter. But he's not. He's William—the man the whole world hates. You've been fooled."

Jane gave her a skeptical look. "Do you think I'm an idiot? I've seen William on TV, in broadcasts, news reports. If Tom were really him, do you think we'd even still be alive? William is terrifying. Tom is... different."

Pepper gave a snort of disdain. "That's because he's been playing you all along."

"I don't care what kind of grudge you have with him," Jane said, her voice firm with irritation. "That's between the two of you. But stop dragging me into it and badmouthing him in front of me. I'm not interested in hearing your accusations."

"You will regret it, Jane," Pepper replied, her tone absolute and final.

"You've said that before. And I'm telling you again—I won't. Not now. Not ever," Jane said, meeting Pepper's eyes with unwavering resolve.

Pepper let out a quiet sigh, frustration bleeding into her voice. "Fine. I've said everything I needed to say. Whether you believe me or not is up to you. I won't bring it up again."

With the conversation ended, Jane returned her focus to the distant facility. She raised the telescope again, her hands trembling with unease. She could barely concentrate, her thoughts consumed with concern for both William and Thor.

Meanwhile, inside the restricted perimeter, Thor—despite having lost his divine powers—relied on his battle-hardened instincts and high strength. He dodged guards and overcame minor obstacles with raw physical skill, managing to infiltrate the base and reach the heart of the site.

And then he saw it.

"Haha... Hahaha!" Thor let out a laugh filled with relief and triumph. "There you are, Mjölnir!"

His pace quickened as he approached the hammer. Without hesitation, he grabbed the handle and pulled with all his might.

But nothing happened.

"Ah!" he roared, veins bulging in his arms as he strained with all his strength. Still, the hammer remained immovable, its surface cold and unmoved, as if mocking his efforts.

Frustrated, Thor let out another furious cry, "Why? What's wrong? Why won't you move?!"

From their position on the outskirts, Jane observed the scene through her telescope. Her shoulders sank. "He didn't manage to lift it..."

"Tch. I knew it," Pepper muttered under her breath. "There's no way something like a god actually exists in this world."

Just then, a familiar voice spoke from behind them, calm and composed. "He is a god... just not yet."

Jane spun around in surprise. "Tom? When did you get back?"

"Just now," William replied, holding up a few well-worn notebooks and some folders. "Here—these are the records and photos you took. I couldn't bring all the equipment. There was too much and I didn't want to attract attention."

Jane stared at him, momentarily speechless. Then her face lit up with amazement. "You... actually did it? Tom, that's incredible!"

"I gave you my word, didn't I?" William said with a light chuckle. "A promise is a promise. That's what it means to be a man. Come on—we need to leave before anyone notices."

"But... what about Thor?" Jane asked, glancing anxiously toward the fenced base.

"I know. But there's nothing we can do for him right now. We'll have to go back and come up with a plan," William said gently.

Jane hesitated for a moment, then gave a reluctant nod. "You're right. Let's get out of here before we all get caught."

With one last look toward the base where Thor knelt beside his unmovable hammer, they turned and slipped into the night.

Jane's Home

"Jane! You dare lie to me again? What were you thinking?! If something had happened to you, how could I possibly face your father in the afterlife?" Eric shouted, his face flushed with anxiety and rage.

"I came back safe and sound, didn't I?" Jane huffed and crossed her arms, defiant as ever. "And I even brought some of my research materials back."

Eric's glare shifted to William. "Tom, you shouldn't have let her go with you. It was reckless."

"Don't blame Tom," Jane interrupted sharply, stepping in front of William protectively. "He kept his promise. He did everything he said he would. He didn't do anything wrong."

"The only real problem now is Thor," she continued, her tone softening slightly. "He got arrested."

"That guy brought it on himself," Eric scoffed with little sympathy. "He insisted on charging in after that hammer. Honestly, I think something's not right in his head."

"I don't think he's crazy," Jane said, frowning. "Maybe we just don't fully understand him. You know about the Einstein-Rosen bridge, right? It's basically a wormhole theory. What if Thor really came from the other side of one?"

William nodded in agreement. "I've thought the same. Thor isn't just any man—he's... more. His strength, his presence—it all points to something beyond human."

Eric gave them both a long, unimpressed stare. "Young man, has something gone wrong up there?" he said, tapping his temple. "It's really a pity."

Jane shook her head. "No, Eric, listen. Remember the sky that night? That strange energy spiral—it wasn't lightning. It looked like a portal, like a rift in space. Thor literally fell out of it. Doesn't that mean something to you?"

"Tom, do you really believe there's another world out there?" she asked, her eyes searching his.

"I do," William said calmly. "I think it's entirely possible. The universe is vast and full of mysteries. Just because we can't reach that world doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And if it does... Thor might actually be the god of thunder."

"You two are both insane," Eric muttered, throwing up his hands. "Absolutely out of your minds."

Jane stepped forward, her voice imploring. "Eric, I want to save Thor. I need to understand what's really going on. You're respected in the field of astronomy. Please—help me. We can't do this without you."

Eric sighed heavily and rubbed his temples. "You're lucky I care about you, Jane. Fine. I'll look into it. But don't expect miracles."

"Thank you! I mean it—thank you so much," Jane said, relief lighting up her face.

As Eric left the room, the tension eased. Now it was just Jane, William, and Pepper in the quiet house.

"Tom," Jane turned to him, her voice soft, "Thank you. I mean it. You helped me when I needed it most. You're a real man."

"Ah..." William's smile suddenly faltered. A grimace twisted his face as pain flared across his features.

Jane rushed to his side in concern. "Tom? What's wrong?"

"I'm okay," William muttered, gritting his teeth, one hand pressed tightly to his waist.

"Let me see!" Jane insisted, already pulling at the fabric of his shirt.

When she exposed the wound, her heart nearly stopped. A gash, long and raw, ran across his side. Blood oozed from it slowly, dark and thick.

"Oh my god," she whispered in horror. "How did this even happen? Tom, why didn't you say something sooner?! Stay here, I'll grab the medical kit!"

She bolted down the hallway, leaving a gust of wind in her wake.

Pepper stepped closer, her gaze fixed on the wound with suspicion. "Is this real? Or is this another one of your games?"

William gave her a lopsided, almost wicked smile. "Are you worried about me?"

"No," Pepper said flatly. "I just want to know if you're lying to her."

"Of course it's fake," he said with a smirk.

Pepper didn't respond directly. As if thinking of something. "It's true, forget it even if I told her the truth now, she wouldn't believe me. I'll let time reveal everything. That'll be enough."

Just then, Jane burst back into the room with a box of medical supplies in her arms. "Tom, I got it! Sit still, I'll patch you up."

"It's fine," William said with a weak smile. "You don't have to worry so much."

"It's not fine!" Jane snapped, nearly in tears. "Look at this wound! You need a hospital!"

"No. No hospitals," William said firmly, his voice uncharacteristically serious. "Just listen to me, Jane. Bandage me up here. That's all I need."

As she knelt beside him, carefully cleaning and dressing the wound, her hands trembled slightly. Her concern was real, and it showed in every motion.

William's eyes flashed with evil intent.

What would become of a love born from a lie? A love steeped in deception, secrets, and hidden power?

Only time would reveal the final outcome. And some truths, once known, cannot be undone.

'I'm looking forward to it!'
