Worldwide Awakening: My Soul Kinds Are Lost-Chapter 574: The Company Depends on the Boss’s Lottery Sales for Revenue_1
"Boss Wang, we're running out of funds," the secretary approached, her face etched with worry.
Today marked the third month since Wang Linchi had started his company. His business specialized in energy, focusing on self-developed energy sources. Currently, they had zero business, but the money poured into it had already dragged the company to the brink of collapse. As for achievements, not a single one had surfaced.
Wang Linchi scratched his head before saying, "How did we burn through the money so fast? Don't tell me we can't even pay salaries."
"Well, we still have about ten days left before payday, but there are no funds left for the Research and Development Department," the secretary answered. That department was a veritable gold swallowing beast.
"What a situation," sighed Wang Linchi, finally adding, "If worst comes to worst, I guess I'll have to cash in my lottery prize."
"Lottery prize?" The secretary was puzzled.
"Last month, I bought a lottery ticket on payday morning and won a billion. After taxes, there should still be quite a lot left," Wang Linchi said, quickly transferring the money to the company's account from his computer.
This was true, and the source of the funds was legitimate.
With his luck, he didn't need to resort to any underhanded means to win the lottery.
"Huh?!" The secretary was dumbfounded. What kind of insane luck is this?
Before the secretary could say anything more, her phone rang. It was the finance department, calling to understand the sudden influx of money. After all, they hadn't received any prior notification and, naturally, had to inquire about such a large sum appearing out of nowhere.
The secretary quickly answered, feeling utterly flustered. What kind of bizarre company stays afloat only because the boss wins the lottery when the cash flow dries up?
"Alright, that should keep us going for another two or three months. Is there anything else?" Wang Linchi asked.
"N-no... nothing else," the secretary replied awkwardly. What else could there be? You've solved the biggest problem, so there's nothing left.
"Right, how's the progress on the fission chain reaction device?" Wang Linchi asked.
The Heroic Spirit World had no nuclear energy, nor had it developed related energy sources. Consequently, it didn't face major energy-related problems. After all, with the existence of Heroic Spirits, different technological development paths were to be expected.
Wang Linchi's decision to pursue nuclear energy was a strategic move to carve out a new frontier, aiming to establish an entirely new energy ecosystem.
The existing energy industries were either controlled by large corporations or the federal government. Even if he managed to enter the market, he couldn't become the leader; he'd only be a secondary player.
It was far better to create his own market and monopolize it; that's where the real profits lay.
"Progress isn't ideal. Many researchers in the company are pessimistic about this project, as it lacks theoretical support," the secretary answered diplomatically. In reality, there had been absolutely no progress, despite a significant amount of money being invested.
Wang Linchi's face darkened. These people are truly incompetent. If I weren't so busy and in no particular hurry, I would have stepped in myself long ago.
I gave them the answers, even wrote down the entire process, yet this bunch insists on acting like they're blind.
I can understand their bewilderment when encountering something completely unfamiliar. However, understanding is one thing, but it's not a reason for me to empathize with them.
I hired these people to work for me. I pay them well—the highest salaries in the industry, in fact—with excellent benefits, holding nothing back. Yet, none of them seem dedicated.
"Push them. Make them deliver results quickly," Wang Linchi said, unwilling to indulge them any further.
"Yes, Boss Wang," the secretary responded before leaving.
The secretary also had many tasks to manage. Wang Linchi, on the other hand, was largely hands-off; once he provided what was needed, the recruited personnel managed everything else themselves.
He ran his company not on ability, but on luck.
And it had to be said, his luck was indeed extraordinarily good. True, the company was losing money, but the people he'd recruited were hardly ordinary. They had managed to build the company into something substantial and well-organized—it just wasn't profitable.
This meant that his company was just one small opportunity away from taking off.
As for when this opportunity would come, that was a different story.
In any case, Wang Linchi wasn't worried about when such an opportunity would arrive.
With his luck, opportunities like these were plentiful. He could even win the lottery to salvage the company if its cash flow was severed.
Regarding the Spacetime Rift, there seems to be some kind of unusual activity.
Wang Linchi had been continuously observing the Spacetime Rift and had keenly sensed some peculiar irregularities.
The Spacetime Rift itself was one of the materializations of the Heroic Spirit System, siphoning energy from the End of Law World.
Could the world be collapsing? Wang Linchi suddenly considered this possibility.
The two worlds had different rates of time flow, approximately a one-to-thirty ratio.
One day in the Heroic Spirit World equated to thirty days in the End of Law World.
Therefore, it was normal for incidents to occur. As for what kind of incidents, Wang Linchi wasn't sure.
Because there was an issue with the temporal flow between the two worlds, they operated in a manner similar to mirror images. If everyone was moving forward, in a mirror image, they would appear to be moving in the opposite direction.
This meant that as Wang Linchi lived his life with time moving forward here, the End of Law World would manifest as time moving backward.
The very idea was rather baffling, and Wang Linchi had no idea how to reconcile it.
However, one unchangeable fact remained: the Calamity of the Last Law was constantly growing stronger, its roots embedded in the past of the End of Law World.
Worlds colliding? Wang Linchi suddenly thought of this. Logically, it seemed unlikely. However, upon further reflection, if the Heroic Spirit World's siphoning from the End of Law World had caused the latter's original trajectory to shift, pulling it towards the Heroic Spirit World, then such a scenario might actually be possible.
Furthermore, with the Calamity of the Last Law already having taken root, if some form of coupling or mutual attraction occurred, it wasn't entirely out of the question.
Forget it. If the sky falls, the tall ones will hold it up, Wang Linchi wasn't overly concerned about what might happen next.
Besides, he could always flee. So, even if he were the tallest one around, he wouldn't be the one propping up the sky.
「In the blink of an eye, it was afternoon.」
Wang Linchi checked the time and figured it was about time to leave work for the day; he got up, preparing to head home and continue his observations there. As the boss, he could do as he pleased.
Sitting in the office is nowhere near as comfortable as lounging at home. Since I have to work anyway, I might as well do it comfortably. As long as it doesn't affect my efficiency, I wouldn't care if I had to be skinned alive and hung upside down.
Just as he stepped out of his office, his secretary intercepted him.
"Boss Wang, leaving early again today, are we?" The secretary's expression darkened. You could at least wait until official closing time before you leave!
In their eyes, Wang Linchi was more like a money-dispensing mascot. Useless most of the time, yet surprisingly crucial when it mattered. But aside from signing off on salaries, he was worse than a slacker—watching movies in the office, eating snacks, always late and leaving early. He was simply infuriating.
However, no one complained excessively because Wang Linchi paid well, offered excellent benefits, and there was no overtime. Everyone loved working there. So, regarding Wang Linchi's various behaviors, their reactions were mostly teasing. They also feared that if Wang Linchi's company went bankrupt one day, they'd have to go back to being corporate drones.
"I'm the boss! What's wrong with me leaving early?" Wang Linchi retorted indignantly.
"Look at the company next door! Their boss works overtime until midnight before going home. We're not asking you to stay until midnight, Boss Wang, but at least leave on time." The secretary glanced at the clock. So, the plan was to wake up from his nap and bolt, huh?
"And that's why the boss next door ended up in the hospital yesterday. I heard he's still in the ICU."
"If I kick the bucket halfway, who's going to pay your salaries?" Wang Linchi added, implying he was looking out for them.
"Alright, fine. But wait a bit before you go. We just managed to headhunt a heavyweight from a research institute. You need to come with us to receive him. You're the boss, after all." The secretary's expression didn't soften. Fortunately, she had caught him in time; a little later, and he would have already made his escape.
"I have to go too?" Wang Linchi asked, finding it hard to believe. Isn't this something HR can handle?
"You just need to be present. At least show the esteemed guest some respect." The secretary's tone implied, Don't be ridiculous, this is *your* company.
"Fine, but let's make it quick. Don't let it delay my going home." Wang Linchi didn't refuse. This could be the opportunity I need, a stroke of luck, albeit an unconventional one.
In that case, it's no big deal to go along and see. It might prevent any mishaps along the way.
Upon hearing Wang Linchi agree, the secretary's tense expression finally relaxed.
"When we get there, all you need to do is smile and keep quiet. Leave everything else to us," the secretary said, leading Wang Linchi towards the conference room.
"No problem. I'll just pretend I'm playing freeze tag," Wang Linchi chuckled. He loved this feeling of total Hang Up.
