Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Shooting
Although the script for the advertisement was very simple,
Wang Jian found filming exceedingly difficult.
Every time the camera started rolling, he felt stiff all over, his speech and movements unnatural.
Thus, in the studio, the director’s voice calling "cut" could be heard frequently.
The shooting time, unnoticed, stretched much longer than planned.
Wang Jian estimated that if he weren’t the author of "I’m a Great Mage," the director would have been more than willing to replace him.
The awkward problem was that most of the advertisement actors had signed contracts unlike those for film or television actors.
Instead, they were more akin to reality show participants’ time-based contracts.
They were involved in filming for a set period.
Once time was up, the actors could settle accounts and leave.
Although, most of the actors involved in the advertisement chose to renew their contracts on the spot and continue filming.
Still, several female actors had contracts with other advertisements to shoot today and had no choice but to leave.
This led to the problem of not being able to muster the twelve female actors needed...
One can say every major city is not short of handsome men and beautiful women, but distant waters can’t quench immediate thirst.
The rental fee of the studio was by the hour, and now we were going over budget every second.
Furthermore, the advertisement director was constantly urging.
Lynn could only contact the actors’ agents while also exploring other options.
At this time, Wang Jian realized that this red-haired Lynn was the planner and producer for his advertisement shoot.
He also finally understood why Lily and her family were here.
Just as he was considering whether to go and apologize to Lynn, he heard her berating the ad director.
"We’re already way over time, and the budget has burst," Lynn’s red hair seemed to stand on end as she spoke angrily, "Don’t look for your damn artistic pursuits in the advertisement, this is not a film."
"Then take a look, can this be aired or not?" the director snapped back, edgy, "You just say the word, and I’ll agree."
"Moreover, the most pressing issue now is that we’re short on female actors," the director glanced at Lynn, "If it comes down to it, you’re up!"
Upon hearing this, Wang Jian turned and ran to a corner to count ants.
But Lynn saw Wang Jian’s retreating figure.
Then, her gaze suddenly landed on Lily.
"Lily, come here a minute," she said with a cunning look in her eyes, "There’s something I need to discuss with you."
"?" Lily, who was comforting Gene, walked over with a face full of question marks.
...
"What? How could that be possible?" Lily’s clear voice rang out, "The turning point in your career is to sell me off?"
"Besides, that still wouldn’t be enough people!"
Wang Jian continued to count ants...
After about fifteen minutes, he didn’t know what Lynn promised Lily.
A blushing Lily walked into the dressing room.
Following her, Lynn also entered the dressing room.
Wang Jian, with the assistant director’s explanation, pondered how to complete the actions naturally.
Then he saw, Lily and Lynn emerged from the dressing room.
The more critical issue was that both had changed into the advertisement ladies’ dresses.
Lily wore all white, with two large white wings on her back.
She was dressed in a white, super-short, modified cheongsam.
Lynn was the exact opposite.
She was in all black, with a pair of large black wings and also wearing a black mask.
If not for her glaring red hair, Wang Jian reckoned he might not have recognized this woman as the red-haired career-focused woman at all.
Both stood somewhat shyly together, looking at the director and asking, "Will this do?"
The director glanced at the script and looked at the two women for a while.
Then, clapping his hands, he announced, "Red hair and blonde, the Demon’s Beloved and the Heavenly God’s Beloved, perfect!"
Gene also ran over, exclaiming loudly, "Mom, godmother, you look so beautiful!"
Lily’s parents laughed, "It’s a treat to see you guys dressed up like this today, haha."
Wang Jian walked up to the pair and gave them a look-over as well.
"Don’t join the crowd," Lynn said to Wang Jian, rolling her eyes. "You’re going to get me killed today."
Lily just glanced at Wang Jian, her cheeks flushing, and she lowered her head.
"Alright, everyone to your places," the director shouted, "Scene two, shot four, get ready to roll."
Wang Jian fought the urge to crack up, striding into the shot with determined steps.
As he walked, he said, "What does it matter if you are Heavenly Gods or Demons?"
"Can you beat me?"
With that, he pulled out a pack of corn rolls and started chomping down on them.
Then, a few actors playing Heavenly Gods and Demons appeared in the shot.
With a fierce glare from Wang Jian, these bit players tumbled out in ways that would have Newton turning in his grave.
Behind these bit players, twelve beauties of various races appeared.
They were dressed in all sorts of bizarre outfits and shouted at Wang Jian, "Ah, darling, you are truly powerful."
"You are the Beloved of this world!"
Then they just ogled Wang Jian with love-struck expressions.
Wang Jian: "Hold it, hold it. Don’t laugh!"
Then a "pfft" sound broke out.
The director immediately yelled, "Cut!"
"Lynn!"
"Sorry, I just couldn’t hold it in..." She started to crack up on Lily’s shoulder, "These lines are just too silly!"
Lily also covered her mouth, giggling, glancing over at Wang Jian now and then.
Wang Jian: "..."
Ten minutes later.
"Ah, you are the Beloved of this world."
"Pfft."
"Lynn!!!"
"I just can’t help it," Lynn said, trying not to laugh but growing frustrated.
She asked the director, "How can I stop from laughing during the scene?"
The director pondered for a moment and said to Lynn, "You and Wang, find a corner with no one else, and make eye contact for ten minutes."
"Me? With him?" Lynn responded.
"Yes, hurry up!" The director was getting impatient. "Look at the time; I’ve still got scenes to shoot this afternoon."
"Alright, alright, alright," Lynn surrendered with a raise of her hands, then gave Lily an apologetic look.
Lily generously waved her hand.
And Wang Jian was like, "?"
Then he was dragged aside by Lynn for a staring contest.
Two minutes later.
"Lynn."
"Hmm?"
"You’ve got sleep in your eye," Wang Jian said.
Lynn quickly rubbed the corner of her eye, "Isn’t it all your fault? I’ve been busy with this project since yesterday."
"Didn’t think it would turn out like this."
Wang Jian scratched his head, "Sorry."
Lynn sighed, "But I should still thank you. Because of you, this project exists, and I could become an independent advertising project planner and producer."
Wang Jian didn’t quite know what to say, so he just kept looking into Lynn’s eyes.
That’s when he noticed that Lynn had heterochromia; one of her eyes was blue, the other grey.
Seeing Wang Jian’s intense focus, Lynn couldn’t help but concentrate as well.
After a moment, Lynn said, "This feels a bit odd."
Wang Jian replied, "You didn’t clean the sleep from your eye properly."
