Wrong Love, Final Goodbye: She'll Never Look Back-Chapter 309: Mom, I Really Regret It Now...
Rhys Lucas hung up the phone and was planning to meet Cindy Lynn.
Cindy Lynn, even if she was at fault, was just a girl blinded by love. She’s paid the price now—Vincent Hawthorne announced the cancellation of their engagement, and Lynn’s parents are both in prison. After leaving Aris, where else could she go?
The more Rhys Lucas thought about it, the more worried he became, and his pace quickened. Just as he turned the corner, he was suddenly tripped by a leg stretched out from the shadows.
Caught off guard, Rhys Lucas staggered and almost kneeled down. He awkwardly regained his balance, anger boiling as he turned around, only to see Vincent Hawthorne leaning against the wall, smoking casually as he looked at him.
"Where are you going? Rushing to see Cindy Lynn? Rhys Lucas, haven’t you seen her true colors yet?" Vincent Hawthorne’s tone was full of sarcasm, not only directed at Rhys Lucas but also at his former self.
How many times had he gone to Cindy Lynn in the middle of the night with just a phone call...
Rhys Lucas, just like him, still hadn’t had enough of being played!
"Vincent, I know you’re still mad at Cindy. She made a mistake, she caused your divorce with Tanya Sinclair. But hasn’t she paid enough?" Rhys Lucas couldn’t stand Vincent’s cold and indifferent attitude. "Just because Cindy deceived you, does it erase all the good she did for you? Even without Cindy Lynn, could you and Tanya have continued together?"
Vincent Hawthorne looked down at the burnt-out cigarette between his fingers, and let out a bitter and mocking laugh. "At least, Tanya and I... wouldn’t have ended so disgracefully!"
In any case, these fifteen years, he owed Tanya Sinclair. He wanted to make amends, but now, the Tanya who could have poured her heart out to him was gone.
She had become a fortress, leaving no gap for him to approach!
Rhys Lucas looked at Vincent Hawthorne’s desolate and deep expression and couldn’t help but find it amusing.
"Graceful? Vincent, let’s not pretend between us brothers. Don’t put all the blame on Cindy. In fact, you and The Hawthorne Family are the true culprits who left her with no grace!"
Vincent Hawthorne, with a grim face, rushed forward and kicked Rhys Lucas over.
"Because I treat you as a brother, I’m warning you. Not a word from Cindy Lynn’s mouth is true. It’s best you don’t believe a single word!"
Cody Crawford came out looking for the missing Rhys Lucas and just happened to stumble upon the scene. It was distressing for him.
He couldn’t keep an eye on them for one moment and they started fighting again.
"Brother Hawthorne! Speak nicely, don’t use your hands!" Cody Crawford quickly pulled Vincent Hawthorne away and helped Rhys Lucas up from the ground.
Vincent Hawthorne received a call from home. After listening to Mother Hawthorne, he frowned heavily and walked out while still on the phone. He didn’t care about Cody Crawford calling after him.
Vincent Hawthorne sped back to The Hawthorne Estate. Upon entering, he saw Mother Hawthorne sitting on the sofa wiping her tears, while Father Hawthorne looked furious, almost enraged.
"How did I end up with such two troublemakers! Each one more troublesome than the last, just hoping their old dad won’t live too long!" Father Hawthorne fumed and turned to Vincent with an even darker expression when he saw him enter.
"Why are you back? You canceled the engagement with Cindy just like that, returned the dowry as it was... I thought The Hawthorne Family was under your command now!"
"Dad, I’ll explain this matter to you later."
Vincent Hawthorne really didn’t want to talk about Cindy Lynn right now.
He walked to Mother Hawthorne’s side and the first thing he saw was the letter left by Yvonne Hawthorne.
A few simple words that made Vincent Hawthorne’s blood pressure rise sharply.
[Mom, Dad, Brother, I’ve left! I’m going to pursue my true love! This time, I truly fell in love with Felix Kendall. No matter where it takes me, I’ll pursue him! I believe one day, Felix Kendall will be moved by me! Didn’t Tanya Sinclair get into our family after clinging to Brother relentlessly? I’m not any worse than Tanya Sinclair. I’m sure I can win Felix Kendall’s heart and make him love me!]
Vincent Hawthorne crumpled the paper violently, snorting anger through his nostrils.
He had warned Yvonne Hawthorne before, thinking she had given up on Felix Kendall. Unexpectedly... this daring girl actually had the nerve to run away from home!
Mother Hawthorne, her eyes red from crying, vented her anger on Father Hawthorne.
"I kept telling you to agree to Yvonne’s wishes, try to reach out to the Kendall Family and talk to Old Master Kendall about formalizing the marriage between the children, or at least let them meet and have a formal introduction! You didn’t even want to try, just said it’s impossible! You even scolded Yvonne for not knowing her place, telling her to look in the mirror..." Mother Hawthorne grew more aggrieved as she spoke, "Yvonne is your own daughter! Do you call this being a father?!"
"How dare you speak!" Father Hawthorne’s fury increased, pointing at Mother Hawthorne’s nose as he scolded, "You’re the one who spoiled her to the point of being so delusional! Do you know the standing of the Kendall Family? Even at his most glorious, Old Master Lucas had to show deference to Old Master Kendall! Now, even though Old Master Kendall has stepped down, every member of the young generation in the Kendall Family is outstanding, and Felix Kendall in particular has extraordinary military achievements. It’s only a matter of time before he surpasses the past! As for Yvonne? Ha! She really thinks herself a celestial being?!"
Father Hawthorne squeezed out a cold sneer through clenched teeth, "I’m telling her to keep a low profile for her own good! Don’t think the internet forgets. As soon as she dares make any connection with the Kendall Family, plenty of people will drag up her past for another round of public shaming! Our entire family would have to disgrace themselves with her!"
"How is that Yvonne’s fault?!" Mother Hawthorne stood up and shouted angrily, "Yvonne is still a child. What does she understand? She just wants to share your burdens. It’s Tanya Sinclair, that conniving woman, who harmed my precious daughter! Instead of dealing with Tanya, you let her leave unscathed, and now you’re blaming Yvonne?!"
"A child!" Father Hawthorne laughed bitterly, "She’s barely a year younger than Tanya Sinclair—call that a child? What does she have to show in terms of knowledge or ability? Fine, since she wants to chase after Felix Kendall, I won’t stop her! Let her suffer all the hardships and hit her head against the wall; then she’ll know exactly what she’s worth!"
With those words, Father Hawthorne glared at Vincent Hawthorne and stormed off in a rage.
"Dad!" Vincent Hawthorne had a bit of a headache and could only comfort his mother first, "Mom, don’t worry. I’ll ask around for Felix Kendall’s whereabouts."
Vincent Hawthorne made several calls and quickly found a lead, but his face turned a shade paler.
"What? You said Felix Kendall went to Kryllos to carry out a peacekeeping mission?"
Upon hearing the words "war zone," Mother Hawthorne almost fainted on the spot.
Vincent quickly pinched the acupoint under her nose and woke her up.
Mother Hawthorne cried and lamented, "Yvonne! My precious daughter! She’s never even been to the poor district, how can she go to a place like that? What if a bullet..."
The more Mother Hawthorne spoke, the more terrified she became.
Vincent quickly comforted her, "Mom, don’t worry. Yvonne was pampered since she was little, there’s no way she could endure the hardships of the front line! Plus, not just anyone can go to a war zone. She must just be wandering around, spending some money, and she’ll come back on her own."
"Really?" Mother Hawthorne tightly grasped his hand, half-believing.
"Yes, rest assured. I’ll have someone find Yvonne and bring her back safe and sound."
"Vincent, what would I do without you?" After her tears, Mother Hawthorne noticed that Vincent had visibly lost a lot of weight. Actually, it wasn’t recent; ever since he divorced Tanya Sinclair, he seemed to have changed considerably.
Mother Hawthorne felt pained as she looked at him.
Additionally, the news of Vincent canceling his engagement with Cindy Lynn had been causing quite a stir lately. Mother Hawthorne had asked several times, but Vincent wouldn’t say a word.
Mother Hawthorne held her son’s hand, her eyes full of pain, "Vincent, if there’s anything going on, tell Mom. Don’t keep it bottled up inside. Are you fighting with Cindy Lynn? Is it about that Tanya Sinclair woman again? Is she still clinging to you?!"
After all, Tanya Sinclair had shamelessly pursued Vincent for so much money back then, marrying into The Hawthorne Family without asking for anything in return! Now with two kids, even though they’re divorced, she certainly wouldn’t easily let Vincent go!
Mother Hawthorne’s gaze turned fierce.
"That woman is such a haunting nuisance, Vincent, let Mother take care of it for you..."
"Enough!" Vincent suddenly stood up and interrupted her loudly.
His instantly gloomy face startled Mother Hawthorne.
’Dignity? Vincent, between the two of us, we don’t need pretenses, right? Don’t put all the blame on Cindy, you and The Hawthorne Family are the real culprits who’ve denied her dignity!’
Rhys Lucas’s words echoed in Vincent’s ears, hauntingly.
He looked at Mother Hawthorne, recalling everything The Hawthorne Family had done to Tanya Sinclair over the years, flashing through his mind like a slideshow.
Vincent painfully closed his eyes, burying his face deep in his palm, taking a deep breath.
It took him a long while to calm down.
"Mom, I truly regret it now..."
Mother Hawthorne blurted out, "You regret marrying that venomous woman Tanya Sinclair, right?"
Vincent shook his head, looking at her, "No, I regret standing by you so-called family members’ side, bullying my wife along with you."
Mother Hawthorne was completely stunned.
Her eyes were full of disbelief.
"Vincent, what are you saying? I... I am your mother! How could I harm you? Tanya Sinclair is the outsider!"
Vincent coldly retorted, "When Yvonne gets married in the future, do you want her in-laws to treat her the same way you treated Tanya Sinclair?"
"Yvonne and that rustic Tanya Sinclair are nothing alike!"
Vincent laughed, "In the eyes of the Kendall Family, maybe Yvonne is also an unrefined nobody."
After saying that, Vincent no longer looked at his mother, turning to walk out. When he reached the door, he paused slightly and spoke, "I will do my utmost to find Yvonne and bring her back. You get some rest. Don’t worry too much. Also..."
He took a deep breath, his voice hoarse, squeezing out each word.
"From now on, don’t interfere in my relationship matters. It’s my fault to Tanya Sinclair. She’s still the mother of Joy and Caden. In this house, I don’t want to hear another word against her."
