Chapter 329: Chapter 329: Bad Timing for His Arrival

Felix Kendall was also carrying a bag of food in his hand.

Declan Pierce slightly raised an eyebrow, "Thanks for your effort." He said it lightly, not waiting for Felix Kendall’s response, and turned to walk inside.

Tanya Sinclair was over there with Abby, who had just woken up and was feeling uncomfortable, wiping her face.

"Aunt Sinclair..." Abby, feverish and groggy, asked, "Am I still dreaming?"

"It’s not a dream. If you don’t believe it, feel it for yourself." Tanya Sinclair held Abby’s hand and gently placed it on her own face.

Abby’s eyebrows curved as she smiled, "Aunt Sinclair, you really came!"

But then she felt guilty, "I’m sorry, it’s so late... Did I interrupt your rest?"

Abby had always lived a life dependent on others, with a sensitivity and maturity beyond her years.

Tanya Sinclair stroked her face gently, saying warmly, "Why would you think that? As long as you need me, Aunt Sinclair will be here with you. Besides, I’m happy to be here with you."

"Really?" Abby cautiously confirmed.

Tanya Sinclair smiled, "Of course. Auntie will promise you, and if you need me in the future, I’ll surely be there."

Only then did Abby smile, "Okay!"

Declan Pierce and Felix Kendall appeared at the door, witnessing the scene of the little and the big pinky swearing.

Under the tranquil light, this scene inexplicably felt warm. Felix Kendall’s eyes flickered slightly, and the next second, a sudden pain on his foot, Declan Pierce stepped on his instep as he walked in.

"Sorry," Declan Pierce turned back and said with a slight apology.

But there was not a hint of apology in his expression.

Felix Kendall couldn’t help but chuckle.

Well, somebody is quite jealous.

Tanya Sinclair heard the sound and turned to see Declan Pierce coming over, followed by Felix Kendall, and stood up in surprise.

"Mr. Kendall?"

"Uncle Kendall!" Abby was utterly excited.

Felix Kendall smiled as he approached, bending down to hug Abby, "I said I’d come back to surprise you, and I kept my word."

"Uncle Kendall, you’ve become thinner and darker. Haven’t you been eating well?" Abby was too young to understand exactly what kind of task Felix Kendall had gone abroad for.

All she knew was that Felix Kendall had lost a lot of weight and gotten a bit darker, short stubble appearing on his chin.

Tanya Sinclair silently stepped aside, and a hand found its place on her lower back. She glanced up at Declan Pierce beside her, slightly baffled, yet Declan Pierce maintained his usual calm demeanor.

Abby blinked and asked, "Uncle Kendall, are you leaving again?"

The little girl looked eagerly, and Felix Kendall, who had lived a carefree life for many years with nothing to worry about, usually returned or not based on his mood outside of missions.

But this time, he kept thinking about the little girl at home who didn’t even reach his knees, so he flew back to Aris even for just a day.

Now, seeing Abby’s eager eyes, Felix Kendall was momentarily at a loss for words.

He actually had to leave the next day.

Abby was perceptive and quickly understood, quietly letting go of his sleeve and showing a bright smile, "It’s okay, Uncle Kendall, you go work. I’ll wait for you to come home. Oh, by the way, at the parent-child event, Uncle Pierce helped me win a big bear plushie. I want to give it to you as a birthday gift."

"Thank you, sweetheart." Felix Kendall smiled.

He glanced back at Declan Pierce, who was brazenly standing by Tanya Sinclair, clearly expressing an attitude of not letting anyone else get close.

Matching Felix Kendall’s gaze, Declan Pierce coolly remarked, "You’re welcome."

Felix Kendall: "..."

Tanya Sinclair, noticing that Abby seemed hungry, went forward to set up the little table and placed the food that Felix Kendall and Declan Pierce had bought, thankfully they didn’t buy the same things.

Abby’s eyes flitted between the two uncles, taking a bite from each, sharing the love.

"Uncle Kendall, the porridge you bought is so delicious."

"Uncle Pierce’s is also really good."

Tanya Sinclair couldn’t help but laugh, "Abby, just eat until you’re full. It’s okay."

"Okay~"

Abby had eaten enough, and after finishing the infusion, her fever gradually subsided. With Felix Kendall staying to accompany her, Tanya Sinclair and Declan Pierce intended to leave.

"Mr. Kendall, we’ll be going now."

"Ms. Sinclair." Felix Kendall called out to her, "Could you spare a few minutes? I want to discuss something personal with you."

"Sure." Assuming what Felix Kendall wanted to discuss might be about Abby, Tanya Sinclair readily agreed.

Declan Pierce quietly asked, "Is there something I can’t hear?"

Tanya Sinclair chuckled, pinching his palm, "You stay with Abby and cut some fruit for her. I’ll be back after the talk. Be good."

Her gentle tone coaxed him, and Declan Pierce was clearly receptive to it.

He just glared slightly disgruntled at Felix Kendall, then released Tanya’s hand, obediently sitting by the bed to peel fruit for Abby.

Felix Kendall observed this, slightly furrowing his brow.

The Tanya Sinclair in front of Declan Pierce and the Declan Pierce in front of Tanya Sinclair were probably sides no one else had ever seen.

It’s not that it wasn’t a pity; for the first time in his life, he found himself wanting to get close to a woman, but he had arrived at the wrong time, and there wasn’t a place for him by her side.

Felix Kendall hid the trace of disappointment in his eyes well, gracefully stepping back.

The two left the hospital room and walked to the small, deserted garden behind it.

The midnight moonlight was beautiful, serene, and cool.

Felix Kendall got straight to the point: "Ms. Sinclair, I might have to be away for quite a long time. There are two things I’d like to ask your help with. One is about Abby’s parents..."
