Wrong Love, Final Goodbye: She'll Never Look Back-Chapter 353: Seeking a Divination for Love
Declan Pierce slightly furrowed his brow, clearly reluctant to leave Tanya Sinclair alone.
He followed the young monk ahead, turning back every few steps.
"Don’t go far. The Qing Shi Ban Road is slippery here, take it slow." Declan advised her as if she were a child leaving her parents.
His striking appearance drew glances from the handful of hot-blooded guests around them. Tanya covered her face with one hand and waved at Declan with the other.
Finally, as he followed the young monk around the eaves, Tanya let out a sigh of relief. A warm-hearted aunt nearby patted her. When Tanya turned around, she saw admiration in the woman’s eyes.
Auntie: "Wow, you’re so beautiful too, and you two have such a great relationship. Such a perfect match!"
Tanya smiled, "He’s not my husband yet; we haven’t gotten married."
"That’s just a matter of time! Love is in the eyes, it doesn’t lie." The auntie said with a smile, "The way your boyfriend looks at you, you won’t find such an affectionate pair of eyes among a thousand people."
Tanya didn’t deny it. She looked in the direction Declan had left: "He is a very... very, very good person."
"By the way, do you want to go to Shendall to get a marriage fortune?" The aunt suggested enthusiastically, "Under the ginkgo tree outside Shendall, there’s an old Taoist priest who reads fortunes. I’ve heard he’s very accurate, especially with marriage predictions! Many people come to see him."
Tanya’s own field is scientific research, and she’s usually dismissive of mysticism, finding it arrogant. She has always kept a respectful distance.
But today, a thought suddenly arose, and following it, she thanked the aunt and went straight to Shendall.
On the way, she spotted an ancient tree adorned with numerous copper bells, beneath which were tied red ribbons.
Tanya stared at it for a moment, and a lay monk who had not shaved approached her.
"Miss, would you like to tie a Thousand Knot Bell?"
"A Thousand Knot Bell?" Tanya was curious.
"As they say, with countless knots in the heart, these tied on the thousand-year-old tree are Thousand Knot Bells. Whatever you wish for, it can come true." The monk looked around to ensure no one was listening, then lowered his voice and mysteriously stated, "This thousand-year-old tree was once privately reserved by a gentleman. All the Thousand Knot Bells on it were placed by him alone. Now that his wish has been fulfilled, he has allowed others to hang their own Thousand Knot Bells."
Tanya was intrigued, "One person reserved the whole tree for wishing? That audacious? It must have been a hard wish to fulfill."
The monk smiled mysteriously, "Indeed, it was extremely difficult. His wish was for revival after ruin, for life after death. Yet he managed to achieve his desire. So, you see how effective these Thousand Knot Bells are!"
Revival after ruin...
The chilling winter wind blew, the leaves had long fallen, leaving only the branches and the bells, ringing emptily yet vibrantly.
Tanya raised a hand to her heart, feeling it tremble along with the sound of the bells, resonating through her body.
The lay monk continued to talk tirelessly, "Miss, you can hang one. In the Bodham, we speak not of money, only fate. Nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine destinies. This month’s last Thousand Knot Bell."
Tanya looked up at him, "If I buy this Thousand Knot Bell, can you tell me the name of the gentleman who hung the bells?"
The monk hesitated briefly, then yielded to fate.
"Since we are fated to meet, I will share a clue with you, Miss. The gentleman, his surname is Pierce..."
...
Tanya walked alone to Shendall, where it was much livelier than before.
She spotted the ginkgo tree under which the old Taoist priest was stationed. A fair number of people surrounded his stall, mostly young couples inquiring about their marriage fortunes.
Tanya waited on the sidelines for a while, until the crowd thinned, before stepping forward.
"Sir, I’d like to request a marriage fortune stick."
The old Taoist looked up, and Tanya realized he was blind in one eye.
"A hundred bucks a stick, and you can only request once." The old Taoist handed the bamboo tube filled with fortune sticks to Tanya, "You’re lucky, young lady. After I’ve read yours, I’ll close shop for the day!"
Tanya shook the tube with focused intent, and one stick fell out.
She handed it to the old Taoist to interpret. He studied the inscription, and his expression gradually grew solemn, his brows furrowing.
Not far away, Declan emerged, finding Tanya almost instantly. Watching her intently shake the fortune stick with such reverence made Declan smile and he took out his phone to snap a picture.
He didn’t rush over. He leaned on the side, observing as she presented the fortune stick to the old Taoist with eager anticipation and a hint of nervousness.
Unaware of what the blind-eyed old man told her, Tanya’s once smiley face fell, and after paying, she left directly.
Declan’s brow slightly furrowed as he strode towards the old man planning to close his stall, exuding an imposing presence...
