Xyrin Empire-Chapter 691: Little Qijing’s Outburst, Lilina’s Disaster
Chapter 691: Chapter 691: Little Qijing’s Outburst, Lilina’s Disaster
A squad of Imperial Soldiers lined up neatly, cautiously placing the deceased Giant Warrior on a transport platform, while a technician in a white coat inserted a probe into the top of the warrior’s head, beginning to extract images of brain tissue at the moment of death to facilitate a smoother resurrection process.
Once that strange layer of silver-white radiation energy and his own courage dissipated, the numerous wounds on the warrior’s body finally burst open. From the cracks in his broken armor, dark red blood with hints of blue luminosity splattered several meters away; initially, we didn’t even realize he was injured to this extent.
Well, a third of those wounds might have come from the heavy-handed laser cutting, since we initially had no idea this guy was still alive...
Of course, those wounds were not fatal. What truly led to the warrior’s death was the lethal journey through outer space and the tremendous energy expended while fighting against Abyss enemies. Despite his combat abilities surpassing those of regular Imperial Soldiers, as a carbon-based life form inherently deficient physically, facing both challenges simultaneously proved too much for him.
"There are traces of mutation in the blood, "Taville remarked, smearing the faintly glowing blue blood collected from the ground onto his fingertips and directly analyzing the secrets it held, "It seems to have undergone human-induced genetic modifications, with all cells mixed with strange yet non-lethal impurities. This has pushed his body far beyond the strength limits of carbon cells, but that bizarre source of silver energy seems unrelated to the cellular mutations; it could be an effect of spiritual power: some form of superpower."
"Let’s hold off on the scientific analysis for now," I frowned, walking towards another body vigilantly monitored—a humanoid creature distorted and deformed from Abyss Energy infection. "The Abyss reaction has already ceased; clearly, it was just another infected, probably originating from another world."
Qianqian came close, poking the corpse on the ground with a little stick, her face disgusted: "So ugly... Ah Jun, how did you kill it just now? Is it a new feature?"
I paused, then finally realized: "Hey, wait! Just remembered, who took action just now?"
Suddenly, everyone was stunned.
Minutes ago, when this monster lunged towards us and the Royal Guards were about to fire, a white figure attacked the crazed creature and killed it in a bizarre manner. And the direction from which the white shadow had charged was ours. Initially, I thought it was Sandora’s Spiritual Shock, but looking at Sandora’s expression now, it wasn’t her doing?
"That thing that ran out from you," Qianqian raised her hand and reported to me, "Ah Jun, you didn’t know?"
I tugged at the corner of my mouth, patting myself down: "Know what? I don’t remember taking action just now... Hey! Qi Jing is gone!"
The Spirit Sea within me was empty, only scattered as energy state with Alaya’s presence wandering within, apparently sleeping. Normally, at this time, a certain little girl who should be frolicking there in my Spirit Sea was missing.
"Could it be Qi Jing who rushed out just now?"
Qianqian blinked, voicing the worst possibility. Sandora thought for a moment, then nodded helplessly: "Seems like it, probably to protect her father."
It then dawned on me. After multiple training sessions, Qi Jing had now been able to actively see the outside world without my restrictions. Perhaps just then, the little girl was observing outside just as the monster attacked her father—and she bravely charged in.
The outcome was decided instantly; the monster was mysteriously annihilated, but where is my daughter now?
Everyone was getting tense at this time, Little Qi Jing suddenly burrowed into the body of this Abyss-infected Monster. Although it appeared that the former had instantly killed the latter, how did such a fragile little soul manage that? Wouldn’t she be hurt by doing so? Most importantly, where was she now?
There was no response from the little girl in the Spiritual Connection. Qi Jing seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Fortunately, just as everyone was about to descend into complete chaos, Qi Jing’s cheerful laughter finally responded to my anxious calls, suddenly resonating in the public channel. She quickly found a familiar frequency in the public channel and sent me a joyful emotional wave—because it used the principle of resonance of the same source Spiritual Power, this interaction could only unfold between us as father and daughter, directly transmitting a certain emotion to the other’s perception. I usually call this "sending an emoticon."
At the same time, a white mist was also released from the now utterly dead Abyss Infected, gradually coalescing into the shape of a little girl. It looked as if the latter’s body was evaporating into steam, and the steam formed Qi Jing’s body. This eerie scene piqued my curiosity because...
It really looked like her soul had left her body... It was so wicked.
"Hee hee~~" Half a minute later, the little girl finally finished reconstructing her body and joyfully laughed as she pounced on me. Like always, she hugged my neck and spun around a circle before she finally returned to her own "home," yes, burrowing back into the Spirit Sea to play.
"Er, Ah Jun, what just happened?"
Sandora watched puzzledly, despite her extensive knowledge, she couldn’t understand how Qi Jing had just killed that Abyss Creature.
Sharing earnestly the emotions and memories that had come unreservedly from Qi Jing, I was at a loss for where to begin, "Put simply, Qi Jing ate this monster’s spirit."
Everyone looked perplexed, Sandora included.
"Qi Jing’s memories are a bit chaotic, the little girl’s interests differ from adults’," I rubbed my forehead, trying to analyze useful information from the bizarre world seen through Qi Jing’s eyes, "She indeed wanted to protect me, hence she rushed inside the monster then... God knows how she managed, but the girl ate all the monster’s Spiritual Energy, it might not be an exaggeration to say she ate its soul."
"That’s utterly inconceivable!" Sandora immediately waved her hand, "How could Qi Jing’s weak Spiritual Body possibly ’eat’ such a mad soul infected by the Abyss, how could she contain so much energy?"
"Of course, she couldn’t, so she only ’digested’ less than three percent, the Spiritual Power she couldn’t digest was all fed back to me, didn’t you notice I seem a bit more spirited than earlier?"
Sandora quickly waved her hand, "...I hadn’t noticed. Okay, let’s not talk about that for the moment, Ah Jun, do you feel unwell in any way? What about Qi Jing? Won’t you get spiritual poisoning from absorbing such an Abyss Monster’s power?"
"I’m fine, I feel good, and the energy fed back from Qi Jing had no attribute, she seems to have filtered out the Abyss infection during the devouring process, the child is bouncy as ever."
Sandora seemed to have more questions, but upon opening her mouth, she found she didn’t have any concrete questions. What had just happened was too abnormal, even beyond the wise queen’s experience. Theoretically, a very weak spiritual body had effortlessly devoured an Abyss Creature’s soul, and more devilish was that she not only cleaned it out completely but also fed the ingested ’nutrients’ back to her own father... Such ferocious ability was beyond theoretical explanation, probably even Taville would be busy for the next few days.
Looking at a certain bespectacled big sister, whose soul of research was blazing all over, I reached this definite conclusion.
"You’ll have plenty of opportunities for research," I glanced slyly at Taville, who was just short of shooting laser beams from her eyes to show her enthusiasm, "you’d better go check it out, who knows how much chaos this disturbance has caused."
Imperial Capital discovered uncontrollable Abyss Creatures, such matters could be trivial or severe, to Sandora and me, an Abyss Monster that not even Xyrin Soldiers could necessarily defeat might only qualify as an after-show entertainment, not even worthy of being called a show, but to the commanders below, this was viewed as a serious incident challenging the foundation of the Empire. With different starting points, the seriousness with which we viewed the issue naturally differed, perhaps it would even trigger a bunch of new security regulations in the future, anyway, I had no time to ponder those, as the current priority was how to muddle through this incident: the festival celebration was still ongoing outside.
Fortunately, the massive chaos we anticipated actually didn’t break out. A few seconds after the mother nest issued an alert for the Abyss Creature invasion into the capital, a second order to lower the alert level was issued, just in time for Bubbles, who was on duty in the mother nest, to accurately determine that this was merely a research accident, not a real Abyss invasion, which prevented the emergency martial law from extending beyond the base.
The citizens that were only separated by a wall from the Shadow Fortress didn’t even know what the clanging noise inside the high walls was about. After Qianqian officially announced that it was merely the Leader’s family having a Gundam fighting contest, the public completely believed it.
...I feel like, as long as it comes from Qianqian’s mouth, people would believe anything, even if it were Ultraman eloping with the Prototype.
After leaving the Command Center, I ran into Big Sister rushing over in a hurry, she intercepted an emergency mobilization order from the Royal Guard through the information link, although the order was canceled a few seconds later, she still rushed over worried about her brother’s safety. After sorting out the messy description from Qianqian, Big Sister also fell into contemplation.
"It seems Qi Jing has many secrets hidden," she said, pondering, looking at the faint white halo on my hand.
"Strictly speaking, it’s Ah Jun’s secrets," Sandora chimed in with a laugh, "The real Xue Huajing has already been reborn, her current body is half composed of Ah Jun’s spiritual power. We have information on Alaya’s power, but Ah Jun’s power always remains unexplained. Maybe today’s extraordinary performance from Qi Jing has something to do with inheriting some excellent genes from dad?"
I don’t know when Sandora got into the habit of making these runaway trains of thought!
Just like in childhood, when she occasionally worried about her mischievous brother due to some accidents, Big Sister, having settled down, started to fiddle with my hair unconsciously while casually asking, "How were that tall warrior and that monster dealt with?"
"The former has already fallen in battle, but he can be resurrected tomorrow. If not, I’ll make Lilina do the heavy lifting. The monster was sent to the dissection room; even in death, it could hide the Abyss Energy within from our scanning devices, which greatly irritated Taville. She vowed to slice and grind the unfortunate little beast to rest. Sandora was slightly concerned that this might be a new form of infection and hidden approach, perhaps we need to take this opportunity to upgrade our general scanning system. Sis, stop playing with my head, you’re pulling out my hair!"
What can I say, although I had no work to handle today, that bit of an accident earlier really dampened my interest in participating in the festival. I’m just waiting for Taville to quickly bring that warrior back to life; for this, I might need to get Lilina to stretch her muscles: not that I don’t trust the resurrection technique of the Xyrin Apostle, but seeing Taville staring at the two ’people’ inside the Space Amber with a fiery passion for research, I’m genuinely afraid she might end up reviving a monster like Shrek for me.
Compared to that, experts under the Life Goddess are more reassuring – sadly, the Life Goddess herself is quite unreliable.
With such thoughts, I greeted Big Sister and headed towards the World Tree. Early in the morning, Lilina seemed to mention that she had to handle the paperwork accumulated by Dingdang today at the Life Temple.
No matter how noisy the reveling crowd on the streets was, Shadow City always maintained two places in absolute quiet, one being the Command Center in the city center, the other being the World Tree Temple, the core of the entire world. Since the carnival, except for a certain red and white city manager, who would die for money setting up a stall at the gates of Heaven, this place has always been a paradise.
Stepping on the stone path in front of the temple and entering the Temple Garden in an instant, a sense of tranquility indeed dispelled much of my irritation. Little Thing isn’t very able, but the conditions of his office are indeed first-rate.
Sauntering leisurely to the World Tree’s trunk which looked like a cliff with no visible end, I pulled out Little Douding, who was knocked out from sleep (eating and then sleeping is indeed one of the little one’s great strengths, she didn’t wake up even during the commotion), from my pocket. Without waking her, I lightly slid the little one a few inches in front of the trunk, immediately a ’beep’ sounded by my ear, and an ancient wooden door glowing with a faint green light appeared in front of me.
...This is a little secret I discovered after hanging out with Dingdang for a long time, actually, the identity recognition module of the pirated world operating system is even dumber than XP Daughter; letting it open the door doesn’t actually require Dingdang to speak in person, you just need to swipe the card of the Lady Goddess at the door.
Little Douding was still obliviously sleeping in the palm of my hand, occasionally turning over and using my thumb as a pillow. She had no idea that she had just been used as an IC card or that her temple had been so easily breached.
From the entrance of the temple to the innermost Sacred Hall—the place specifically prepared for humans nearing divinity, also known as Lilina’s office—there were more than a dozen doors. Clutching the dazed Dingdang, I swiped through all the way, finally to see Lilina sprawled half-dead on a grand golden desk, nearly buried under piles of files.
"Boss... wuu wuu..."
Seeing me, Lilina instantly reacted as if she had been isolated from the world for years and had suddenly seen a relative, tears streaming down, clutching a scroll. The voice of this Fake Lolita was so sorrowfully melodious, heart-wrenching, and mournful, it twisted the gut. I looked at the stacks of scrolls at least half a meter tall beside her and the boxes and boxes of scrolls behind the desk, feeling cramps starting in my calves.
"Did Dingdang accumulate all of this?"
Lilina, with a mournful face, nodded. "These are automatically sorted by the World Tree about the operation of the world and prayers that need responses. I thought it wouldn’t be much, I should have come to deal with it earlier."
"Wait a sec, I remember the operation system used to generate those small light balls when it received prayers, right? Weren’t those more convenient than these files?"
I should not have asked—Lilina burst into outright tears, "Wuuah... The demo version of the Perception Sharing feature expired last month! The serial number Lady Goddess gave was fake. After entering it, all added features went dark, only the DQS system works now! So all the things that were supposed to be easy to handle turned into these files that take ages to go through!!"
Damn it, what the hell is this DQS system!
With an almost horrified expression, I trembled as I pulled a piece of "paper"—unknown material—from the table. This temple-generated document floated a huge "Demo Version Feature Locked" warning nakedly, blatantly signaling the software monopoly vendor’s harsh exploitation of users. Plus, annoyingly, no matter how the Observer changed the angle, this floating watermark always hovered right in your line of sight, not terribly affecting readability, but exceedingly annoying.
The Divine Race’s magical technology is truly omnipotent; even the watermark is so elegantly annoying.
The document I randomly pulled had no text on it, but when I focused my mind to read it, its contents directly entered my own brain, and oh boy, the content was even more irritating:
Dear User, hello. The operating system has just made a difficult decision. Since you have used too many low-quality, crappy third-party plugins, the system’s stability is seriously threatened. To ensure that the world management terminal maintains minimum normal operation and your rights to use a genuine operating system, the system will unfortunately have to temporarily shut down all enhanced operational premium services. Please in the near future:
Sell your children, sell your rice, smash pots to sell iron and even blood, and pay the service fee. Thank you for your cooperation.
—Dawn Temple First Program Team, Bingdisi.
I silently bowed my head, full of emotions, never expected that someone like Bingdisi, a female hooligan, also had years of engaging in mental labor. But from that bold second-to-last sentence, it was clear that even during times of mental labor, Bingdisi was a female hooligan.
What the hell kind of unfolding is this crap?! Dingdang, you little fool, stop sleeping and come save the world already!
(By the way, it was my birthday yesterday... I actually forgot to ask for a vote... Is it still in time to make up for one now?)
