Chapter 790: New Wonder-Weapons

Before Yuqi could make a move, Xiaoyun’s phone suddenly started ringing nonstop in his pocket.

"Turn it off."

"It might be something important. Let me just answer it first."

With a grumpy face, she had no choice but to move back to her chair as Xiaoyun started talking on the phone.

"Yeah. I finish the date with Houqin already... I’m at Yuqi’s office right now... Mhm. Okay. I’ll be there in a few."

"Who is it? Was it Mom?"

Yuqi curiously asked as she watched Xiaoyun hang up the phone before putting it back into his pocket.

"Anna. She wanted me to go to her factory for something important... Sorry—"

"Shush. Just go."

---

As Xiaoyun arrived at Anna’s factory by himself, there was a massive object at the front entrance that no one could ignore.

Two massive objects, to be exact. An extremely long-looking artillery and a tank that’s double the size of the Lambo he was sitting in.

"What the..."

Seeing the stunned look on his face as he stepped out of the car, Anna chuckled as she quickly dragged him over.

"What do you think?"

"You built this?"

Xiaoyun questioned as he could feel the fundamental differences between the tank in front of him and the T-34 tanks in his army.

It felt more modern in every sense—the unique shapes in each of the angles, the smoothbore cannon, and its oddly mysterious departments.

"My engineers built it... Xiaoyun, let me tell you something. Those refugees you brought back are the most talented people I have talked to."

"Really?"

"Yes, really. You wouldn’t believe how talented they are... This thing is literally made in less than a week."

"A week?"

Xiaoyun’s jaw dropped in disbelief as it almost sounded absurd to him to hear something seemingly this advanced being built that fast.

"Bring them to me. I want to meet and talk to them personally." Xiaoyun murmured as he touched the tank’s smooth surface.

"That’s what I was planning to do."

As Anna guided him inside the factory, the two of them soon arrived at a massive warehouse that had well over twenty people in plain clothes.

"Rui Dian! Come over and meet the governor."

A man with grey hair emerged from the crowd, walking up before stopping right before the two of them.

"You’re the governor?" The grey-haired man questioned.

"Yes. I’m Governor Chen. You’re?"

"I’m the lead engineer, Rui Dian."

"Nice to meet you, Rui Dian... You all mind if I ask how you all built that thing in less than a week?" Xiaoyun questioned.

"Of course not. We already had the components with us in a semi-truck... All we had to do was assemble it and put it into one piece."

As the grey-haired man casually said it out loud, Xiaoyun couldn’t help but get a little suspicious about their background.

"That’s still extremely impressive... But may I ask where you all worked before the outbreak?"

This time, the grey-haired man fell into silence. The entire crowd of workers fell into silence as none of them said a single word.

"Anna, do you know where they are from?" Xiaoyun asked.

"They’re from Beijing."

"From Beijing with all these components the whole time... Did you all work in North Industries?"

Once again, the plainclothes men didn’t answer him. They all stood in silence as they looked over to Anna.

"Xiaoyun, I signed a Non-disclosure agreement with them. Can you not ask where they’re from?" Anna requested.

"No problem. I was just curious earlier... What’s the name of the tank you guys had come up with?"

"Type 100." One of the men within the crowd answered.

"Type 100. That’s a good name... I don’t know why you all chose to pick here to assemble the tank, but I really appreciate it."

"Mr.Governor, can we talk in private for a second?" The grey-haired man questioned.

"Sure. Anna, can you bring us to a private room?"

As the grey-haired man and Xiaoyun followed Anna in the factory, the two soon arrived at a relatively clean meeting room.

"To answer your question earlier, half of us worked in the North Vehicle Research Institute before the outbreak." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Rui Dian’s straightforward answer surprised Xiaoyun a little, but he didn’t dig into their past further.

"I see... Mr.Rui, how many type 100s can you produce?" Xiaoyun questioned.

"Zero. There’s not enough material and equipment to build one here... The tank out there is only a prototype."

"Then what’s your intention of working here? Can you guys build a different tank for the army to use?"

This time, Rui Dian didn’t answer. He only looked over to Anna, who, in turn, answered Xiaoyun.

"I hired them to replicate the APFSDS system. The smoothbore cannon on the tank earlier."

"APFSDS?"

Xiaoyun’s head couldn’t wrap around the English acronym until he suddenly felt a sense of familiarity with it.

"Armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot." Rui Dian answered.

"Oh, right, that. The other one is HEATS, right? Does it perform worse than ADFSDS?" Xiaoyun questioned.

"In theory, yes. Some of the soldiers’ reports had stated how the tank ammo couldn’t go through certain tank mutants.

With APFSDS, this problem shouldn’t exist anymore. It’s the most advanced penetration ammo out there." Anna answered this time.

"I see... Wait, Anna, you don’t have any tanks in production. What are you going to do with this new ammo?"

"They’re also going to make the new tank for me—a different one from the Type 100 in the front.

But it will still certainly beat those old soviet outdated T-34. I’m more than certain we can build something better."

"Well, good luck on that. Tell me when you made a prototype of it... Ahem, besides the tank, what’s the other thing in the front?"

Xiaoyun questioned, his mind thinking back to the massive artillery piece next to the tank earlier at the entrance.

"That’s actually the main thing that I had you here for today. I managed to make exactly what you had been looking for."

"Looking for what?"

"Do you remember how you asked me that you needed something extremely explosive to penetrate... something?"

"Oh, right, the explosive to go through those giant mutants... You made something for it?"

"Yep. I saw the newspaper about those giant mutants and realized the explosive angle you’re looking for is actually extremely inefficient."

Xiaoyun didn’t say anything back, his face looking intrigued by Anna’s potential proposal against his idea.

"Rather than using explosives to kill the giant mutant, we just needed something strong enough to penetrate the giant mutant’s head.

And while I was reading a book, I noticed how big the Navy’s guns were. That’s when I realize we could just rip them out."

"You’re telling me you ripped it out of a ship?" Xiaoyun questioned.

"Of course not. We don’t have any ship to rip out of... But I managed to make a replica of a 16-inch naval gun as a literal cannon artillery.

It’s the perfect weapon meant for going through steel ships. If this thing can’t penetrate it, then I’m not even sure if the new tank ammo could do it."

"The new tank ammo will go through it. APFSDS is the strongest penetration possible."

Rui Dian’s add-on rested assured Xiaoyun a little, but a question remained in his head. A concern that couldn’t be ignored.

"I understand that. But how are you going to transport that... massive navy cannon out there?"

"Just disassemble it and load it into semi-trucks. Then reassemble it when it is needed." Anna instantly answered.

"How long would that take?"

"Um... At least thirty minutes or longer. But with training and the right heavy equipment, it could be done in twenty minutes."

"That’s way too long for the battlefield. The giant mutant would have wrecked the army by then."

"Mr.Governor, Ms.Anna intends to use it as a defensive cannon in a city outpost. The new tank would be the one meant for the field." Rui Dian pointed out.

"Yeah, that," Anna added.

"Okay then, now that makes more sense... How much would it cost to station three of them in Zhaoqing?"

"One hundred thousand."

"I beg your pardon? Did I really hear that correctly? One hundred thousand for three artillery is an absolute bonker suggestion—"

"One hundred thousand each."

As Xiaoyun was interrupted by the door suddenly opening, Kate entered the room with a clipboard in her hand.

"There’s no way this thing is worth one hundred thousand each. What the hell is being built to take in that much cost?"

"It’s adding the research cost and the material cost. You can’t expect us to develop a weapon without cost outside of building it."

Xiaoyun quickly turned over to Anna, who only nodded her head in agreement with Kate’s listed price tag.

"Fine, I’ll talk to Houqin tomorrow about it. But if this thing doesn’t penetrate the giant mutants, you guys would refund half of the contract cost."

"No problem."

Seeing Kate smiling and Anna looking a little nervous, Xiaoyun couldn’t help but feel as if he had been scammed by the two of them.
