Chapter 131: Do you find my actions cruel?

"Repeat what you said to me," Eva ordered as she pushed the woman in front of the crowd. The woman saw nothing wrong with her words, and when she spotted Ethan and Aaron, her eyes flickered with determination, but it quickly faded—replaced by fear and innocence.

"I-I only want to heal master Julian since I’m a healer. I don’t know what I did wrong... Sorry, I wouldn’t heal him again without your permission. I’m sorry!" The woman, tears streaming down her face, begged for Eva’s forgiveness.

Some people in the crowd frowned, feeling Eva’s reaction was uncalled for and ungrateful.

Only those who were clearheaded and had some sense sensed something was wrong.

"Blaine, did this woman come to you for permission to treat my husband?" Eva asked calmly, as she bent down to remove the dagger holstered at her ankle.

"No, Madam, today is my first time seeing her," Blaine replied quickly, his eyes brimming with fury at the sight of the woman on the ground.

"Did she ask permission from both of you?" Eva turned to Ethan and Aaron, and they shook their heads. The hushed whispers in the crowd died down.

Although healing someone isn’t a bad thing, always ask permission from their loved ones—Julian wasn’t even in critical condition needing immediate healing, or they would have thought her actions were justified.

Even doctors and potion makers back home would have to tell you the symptoms and treatment plan before they treat you.

The woman on the ground stiffened for a brief moment before she explained in a trembling voice.

"M-My powers were too weak. I was afraid you would mock me or disapprove of my healing, so I held back, hoping to wake him up. It’s the only way I can thank you for saving us yesterday."

Her words were reasonable, and her expression was filled with sincerity and gratitude, which made some people feel they were being too hard on her—she only wanted to repay their kindness in protecting her last night by waking Julian from his coma.

They also realized they had offered nothing in gratitude, and some blushed with shame.

"Oh~ you’re good, but when did I say I needed your gratitude?" Eva crouched, the tip of her dagger lifting the woman’s chin.

"How many times have you entered his tent, and which hands of yours touched him?" Eva tilted her head, her eyes growing colder, though her voice sounded angelic to the ears.

The woman shivered, gulping in fear as the dagger’s pointed edge shallowly pierced her skin.

Her eyes darted around, searching for someone to save her—her instincts warned her that this woman wasn’t just asking.

Ethan moved closer but made no effort to stop Eva—he had never seen her this angry before, but his action gave the woman false hope that Ethan was coming to save her. So...

"Madam, I only want to heal your husband and nothing else...please don’t read more into my actions, I’m not trying to seduce your husband." The woman ignored the tip of the dagger piercing her skin and made sure her voice was loud enough for everyone to hear.

The clearing went quiet, and then whispers spread through the crowd.

"So that’s why she’s upset."

"Damn, this woman is too possessive. How do her husbands deal with it?"

"So it’s true she has two husbands, greedy."

Though they whispered among themselves, no one dared speak aloud or come to her defense; they were careful not to offend Eva, who kept them safe in her space.

"Hmm... you’re right, I read more into your actions. I don’t like people coveting what’s mine—which hand?" Eva demanded in a chilling tone, already losing her patience with this woman’s unnecessary talk.

Ethan’s lips curled slightly at her words. Aaron caught his expression and snorted. His annoyance grew the more he looked at Ethan, so he averted his eyes and watched his sister, relieved she wasn’t as naïve as she looked.

"You can’t—" the woman’s words were cut off by her muffled scream.

Eva removed her dagger from the woman’s mouth, and the woman’s severed tongue dropped to the ground.

The crowd was stunned by Eva’s action, and they didn’t have time to react when Eva swung her dagger, severing the woman’s hands at the wrists.

Blood spurted as the woman thrashed in agony, her face etched with pain and disbelief as she stared at her severed limbs on the ground.

Ethan quietly handed Eva a handkerchief to wipe the blood off her dagger.

Aaron frowned, feeling the woman’s screams were harsh to his ears, so he isolated her in her own shadow—a black dome covered the woman, and the air became fresher.

The crowd finally snapped out of their daze, with some running to the side and vomiting everything they had eaten, their faces ashen as a wave of fear settled in their hearts.

Their minds couldn’t grasp the idea of someone appearing so innocent, yet being so cruel and decisive in her actions.

"The next time this happens..." Eva left her threat unfinished, but the message was loud and clear. In that moment, they felt terrified of Eva and the others, vowing to themselves that they would work honestly if they wanted to live longer.

Eva returned to Julian’s tent, her expression softening at the sight of him sleeping peacefully.

She lay on the space beside Julian, her eyes never leaving his figure, still fearful that some stranger might have gotten close to him in his weakened state.

Ethan entered the room and was silent for a while, allowing Eva’s emotions to calm before he spoke.

"I’ll bring your tent closer to his if we’re not in the space. Blaine and the chef will look after him," he assured her in a soft tone as he sat on the chair beside the bed.

"Hmm..." Eva turned to him, a flash of hesitation crossing her face, but she sucked in deep breaths and asked.

"Do you find my actions cruel?" Eva asked quietly, her body tense as she nervously awaited his response.

Ethan moved closer to her and flicked her forehead before she could react. "You don’t have memory loss, do you? Didn’t we deal with those people back at the train together? I’ve seen your hands covered in blood before, so it’s nothing new. Don’t overthink it." He finished with a gentle smile, helping her rub the spot he had flicked.

"No, this is different. I’m furious and wanted nothing more than to take her life for touching Julian...I still do." Eva trailed off, her hand clenched into a fist at the very thought, only to meet Ethan’s smiling eyes.

"Am I too possessive—’’

"Hmm... I’m not complaining, and she was wrong for touching Julian without his consent; your punishment was enough to deter others with similar thoughts," Ethan added as he unclenched her fist.

"Cough...don’t let Julian know," Eva muttered with an embarrassed flush doting her cheeks.

Ethan chuckled, knowing Julian won’t let Eva hear the last of it once he found out.

"Sure. Let me get your tent," Ethan said before leaving the tent.

Minutes passed, and Eva heard shuffling and the movement of objects, and her heart finally settled.

She turned to Julian, caressing the stubble on his chin as she sent energy into him. A yawn escaped her lips, and sleep gradually overtook her.

"Time to head out. First, we’ll explore that door before searching for a safe place to establish a stronghold."

Eva and Aaron nodded in agreement to his words, checked their weapons, and called their beasts. Eva then led them out of the space.

A burst of hot air and dust blew toward them, and Eva was thankful she hadn’t forgotten to cover her face with a breathable cloth, or else she would have inhaled more dust today.

The three figures headed towards the rocky door, and the vast expanse of sand made them look like three tiny dots moving.
