Chapter 927: Atoning for Her Betrayal

Day Ninety-Nine...

At Country J

Alexander immediately mobilized his men to begin a full-scale search for his grandfather. The moment word of the old man’s disappearance got out, it spread like wildfire throughout the organization, stirring unrest and speculation among the ranks.

They started to speculate that the Sawada Clan planned this out due to the involvement of Hanabi. Whispers filled the headquarters regarding the incident.

’She can’t be trusted! She is from the opposing faction!’

’Maybe, she just used our leader to get closer to the Patriarch! This must be a premeditated plan!’

’They dare challenge us. This is a declaration of war! We have to strike back! The Sawada Clan took advantage of our leader’s weakness! This is an unforgivable act. They must pay for it tenfold!’

Despite those opinions from the other members of the Red Dragon Mafia, Alexander still refused to believe that Hanabi had something to do with his grandfather’s disappearance. He assumed that this was just a misunderstanding. He wanted to clear her name.

"Spade, can you track her location? I need to talk to her. I want to confirm it with her. I won’t believe any speculation related to her," Alexander said firmly.

Spade just nodded before he faced his laptop. His fingers flew across the keyboard as he began tracking Hanabi’s location. He just hoped she was still in the country.

Meanwhile, Jack stood beside Alexander, closely monitoring the movements of their men on a digital map. Updates were coming in by the minute, but none brought good news. Despite their efforts, they were still having a hard time finding the old man.

"I’ve got a bad feeling about this," Jack muttered, his brows furrowed. "I think... the Sawada Clan might be behind it."

Alexander remained silent, his jaw clenched.

Jack continued, his voice low but firm.

"Our men haven’t been able to trace them, not a single lead. There’s a strong chance your grandfather has already been taken out of the country. But what puzzles me is the motive. If this were a kidnap-for-ransom situation, they would have contacted us by now. But so far... nothing. No threats. No demands. No communication at all."

The room grew heavy with unease after Jack freely expressed his opinions.

"Just keep searching! We need to find my grandpa no matter what!" Alexander said through his gritted teeth.

He, himself, had no idea of the real motive behind his grandfather’s disappearance. But one thing was for sure: enemies of the Red Dragon Mafia had been targeting him to shake the very foundation of their power structure.

Deep inside, Alexander had a wishful thinking, hoping that the Sawada Clan was not involved in this case. He had already formed an alliance with them. If they did it, then attacking his grandfather only meant a betrayal of their trust.

The room was engulfed by silence. A heavy tension could be felt around them. Then suddenly, Alexander’s phone rang. His eyes gleamed upon seeing the caller ID– ’Hanabi’.

Without further ado, he quickly pressed the answer button.

"Hanabi–" He reflexively called out her name as soon as the call got connected. But he stopped midway as he didn’t know how to confront her.

Hanabi was also silent from the other line. He heard her heaving a deep sigh.

"Have you met my grandfather this morning?" Alexander finally found the right words, questioning Hanabi.

His heart pounded so hard as he waited for her response.

"Yes," Hanabi simply replied. Her tone was distant, making Alexander a little bit anxious.

"Are you still with him? Do you know where he is?" He probed again, seeking an answer from her.

Hanabi’s cold, distant voice echoed through the phone, sending a chill down Alexander’s spine.

"I have him," she said calmly, emotionless, almost taunting. "If you want to see him alive, then come and find me. You have twenty-four hours. If you fail... you’ll never see him again."

Her words lingered in the air like a threat carved in ice, leaving no room for negotiation. Alexander was left speechless, his face turning instantly pale.

Hanabi’s last words pierced his heart like a dagger. She just admitted that she was the one who abducted his grandfather. He couldn’t believe it.

"This is not a good joke, Hanabi!" He said in denial.

Spade and Jack focused their attention on Alexander, noticing the shift in his expression. His jaw tightened, eyes narrowing with a mixture of shock and restrained fury.

They couldn’t hear Hanabi’s voice on the other end of the call, but they didn’t need to. The change in Alexander’s demeanor told them everything. They knew something was terribly wrong.

"Believe me or not, I’m telling the truth."

Hanabi didn’t prolong their conversation. She quickly hung up, leaving Alexander in utter shock. He tightened his grip on his phone as a storm of emotions surged up in his heart.

Meanwhile, Jack exchanged a quick glance with Spade, tension crackling in the air between them.

"Something’s happened," Spade muttered under his breath. "Boss, what’s going on here?"

"Hanabi is the culprit. She took my grandpa..." Alexander said quietly, his voice laced with disbelief, his heart heavy with shock and betrayal.

Both Jack and Spade were stunned by Alexander’s revelation. Although they had harbored suspicions about Hanabi, hearing it confirmed still came as a shock.

Neither of them had truly believed she would go this far, especially not against Alexander and his grandfather. After all, Alexander introduced her as his girlfriend in front of everyone just a few weeks ago. Arthur Wayne also showed fondness toward Hanabi.

"Damn it! She and the Sawada Clan actually did it!" Jack hissed under his breath, his voice sharp with anger. "She even used such underhanded methods! She played dirty!" He added, his expression darkening.

Before Jack could say more, Spade swiftly kicked him in the foot, a firm warning to stay quiet. His outburst was only making things worse. Spade could already tell that Alexander was greatly affected by this situation.

Alexander stood silent, his eyes fixed on the floor, fists clenched at his sides. Unlike Jack, he said nothing, struggling to keep his emotions in check. The betrayal cut too deeply, and he didn’t know how to process it.

A question was raised in his mind: ’Why did she do it? Why did she capture my grandpa? For what purpose?’

This absurd situation was driving him nuts. He couldn’t accept the cruel reality of Hanabi’s betrayal. He wasn’t just furious. Beneath the anger, a deeper pain lingered.

He felt wounded, heartbroken in a way he hadn’t expected. The woman he once trusted... the one he might have even loved... had turned against him.

"FIND HER!" Alexander uttered coldly before storming out of the room.

Spade and Jack could only obey Alexander’s command. They took action, tracking Hanabi’s location as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, at Hanabi’s place, she stared at her phone absentmindedly. Her mind was elsewhere.

She couldn’t hide her troubled expression after the phone call with Alexander.

After a while, she walked toward her drawer and retrieved her gun. A bitter smile flashed on her face.

"I’m sorry, Sis Jane... but I have to face the consequences of my decision. I hope... You will understand me... one day."

She picked up the letter she had written for Jane, her fingers trembling slightly as they brushed over the white envelope. Her decision was final.

In exchange for Alexander’s grandfather’s life, she was prepared to offer her own. It was the only way she could atone for her betrayal.
