70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 30: Apology
The next afternoon, Xu Mumu went to Du Yu’s house again.
Seeing Xu Mumu, Du Yu looked distressed. Right now, he didn’t want to see her; the homework she left him yesterday made him pull out an unknown amount of his hair.
What goddess? Xu Mumu was definitely not his goddess anymore; she was too terrifying.
Yet his mom was very satisfied with Xu Mumu, thinking that the tutor her son found finally proved useful.
"Take out your homework and let me see," Xu Mumu said to Du Yu.
"Mumu, how about we skip tutoring? Learning this stuff is so painful," Du Yu said, looking at Xu Mumu with a headache.
"Is that what your mother thinks?" Xu Mumu slightly raised an eyebrow. Mrs. Qin was outside looking at some documents, which showed she cared about Du Yu’s academic performance.
"My mom, of course, wants me to have tutoring," Du Yu lost his confidence instantly.
"Then that’s settled. Trust me, as long as you follow the plan I’ve set up, your grades will definitely improve quickly," Xu Mumu said earnestly. Since she received the tutoring fee from Mrs. Qin, she was more attentive to Du Yu.
Besides, she had prepared so many lessons and couldn’t just stop after one afternoon; that would be too much of a loss, and she didn’t want to give up this income either.
"Even if they improve, it’s useless. I can’t take the college entrance exam," Du Yu pouted, a sentiment shared by many students in the class now.
"If in two years the college entrance exam resumes, what are you planning to do?" Xu Mumu looked at Du Yu. This lazy attitude drove her up the wall; if striking weren’t an option, she’d have hit him.
"Then I’ll deal with it when the time comes. By that time, I’ll find someone to help me review," Du Yu thought for a moment and said. His dad had mentioned this to him too, but he didn’t really believe the exam would resume. It’s been so many years; if it were to resume, it would have by now.
"Alright, it’s your choice. Just don’t regret it. I’m leaving," Xu Mumu packed her things, ready to leave.
"Come on, don’t go. Hang out at my place. I’ll have my mom pay you for tutoring," Du Yu said, trying to reach out to her, but she dodged skillfully.
"I have my own principles; I can’t take money just to hang out," Xu Mumu said calmly, then walked out with her backpack.
"Mumu, where are you going?" Seeing Xu Mumu walking out with her things, Qin Jie looked at her suspiciously, sensing something wasn’t right.
"Mrs. Qin, Du Yu doesn’t want to have tutoring sessions, so there’s nothing for me to do here," Xu Mumu said with a slight smile. To be honest, she respected the capable Mrs. Qin in front of her.
"What? Mumu, sit for a moment. I’m going to sort out Du Yu," Qin Jie’s face changed instantly as she got up and headed to Du Yu’s room.
Watching Qin Jie’s actions, Xu Mumu smiled. Du Yu was in for a tough time; the tutoring sessions could still be worked out.
In fact, over the past few days, she found Du Yu to be a good person, often bringing her food. So, Xu Mumu was prepared to keep him on track to at least get into college when the entrance exams resumed.
Sure enough, Xu Mumu hadn’t sat long when Du Yu and Qin Jie came out together, with Du Yu hanging his head.
"Mumu, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said those things," Du Yu said, pressing his lips together.
"It’s fine," Xu Mumu replied nonchalantly; after all, she wanted to earn this tutoring fee.
Once the session was over, Qin Jie gave Xu Mumu another two yuan as an apology, anticipating that Du Yu would eventually cause a scene.
In the evening, when Du Yu’s dad came home, Qin Jie explained the situation to him.
During dinner, Du Yu’s dad, Du Zhen, spoke earnestly to his son: "Xiao Yu, I’ve told you many times to study seriously. Even if the college entrance exam doesn’t resume, I can still get you into the Worker-Peasant-Soldier University. But recently, I’ve noticed a gradual policy shift; I’m certain the exams will resume."
"Dad?" Du Yu looked at Du Zhen, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Do you think your dad would harm you? Study well while you have the chance; otherwise, do you intend to just inherit this shoe factory? If you know nothing, even though you are my son, plenty of people could push you out," Du Zhen said seriously. Du Zhen was genuinely concerned for his son, who had been indifferent before.
This incident provided a teaching moment, and he was grateful for the young girl.
His wife’s approval of the girl made her naturally trustworthy.
"Dad, I understand. I will study seriously," Du Yu replied earnestly. He knew exactly what his dad was saying; he just kept misleading himself before, thinking he was still young. But he was already fifteen, not that young.
"If you truly understand, that’s good. When the girl comes over next week, we should properly thank her," Du Zhen chuckled. Seeing his son’s demeanor, he knew his words were taken to heart.
"Dad, Xu Mumu is my classmate. I’ll thank her tomorrow," Du Yu smiled and said.
"Okay," Du Zhen nodded and said no more.
Meanwhile, at Xu Mumu’s house, it was still quite silent. Around the dinner table, nobody dared to speak, and the elders’ expressions were very displeased.
Without saying much, Xu Mumu ate and went back to her room.
Now, she took out the money she had earned, saving up to five yuan, which made her incredibly happy.
She thought about buying a few study materials, yet hesitated to spend the money.
With the family likely to divide soon, there would be many places to spend money. Even if her parents had a cash reserve, it wouldn’t last forever once it was spent.
On the other hand, Xu Xue was also planning the division of the family property. At this point, dividing the family would be unfavorable to the third branch, and their second branch wouldn’t be in the position of being driven out with nothing, which was definitely a good thing for them.
Even if they didn’t get much, she could strive for a better life for her family through her efforts.
Back at school, Xu Mumu found life relatively relaxed. To show his gratitude, Du Yu brought her lots of snacks.
"Mumu, Du Yu is so good to you, bringing you so much stuff. You didn’t see it, but Zhou Yuan’s eyes were all red," Xue Yan said excitedly, winking at Xu Mumu. Zhou Yuan was another girl in class, but this girl liked Du Yu.
