70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 40: Comforting Grandpa and Grandma
When Xu Mumu went out, Xu Minghui was waiting outside again.
Back at home, it was still quite lively inside, with the second and fourth families busy with their own kitchens.
By this time, they were almost done. Xu Mumu just took a quick look and then withdrew her gaze.
She went to Li Caixia’s room and gave the egg cake to Li Caixia.
"Dad, Mom, nothing happened today, right?" Xu Mumu asked.
"What could happen at home? Everyone seems happy, except your grandpa and grandma." Li Caixia pouted. Although the old couple was staying with them, they didn’t actually get any extra money.
"Third Uncle and the others have really let Grandpa and Grandma down. Mom, I’ll take some of these egg cakes to them." Xu Mumu divided a portion of the egg cakes.
"Alright, take them." Li Caixia said nonchalantly. Now that the family has been divided, there’s no need to hide anything if you want to eat something.
Xu Mumu went to the old couple’s room, Madam Chen was tidying up clothes, and Old Xu was sitting by the bed smoking.
"Grandpa, Grandma, are you both okay? This is an egg cake I got today from tutoring someone. The lady gave it to me, please try it." Xu Mumu smiled as she took out the egg cake.
"Mumu, you eat it yourself, we don’t really like this." Madam Chen didn’t take the egg cake from Xu Mumu and instead looked at her lovingly.
"Grandma, I’ve already eaten. This is specifically for you, please eat it quickly, or else Little Brother will wake up and want some too." Xu Mumu said with a smile.
"Then let Minglei have it." Madam Chen also smiled.
"He’s still got some left there. If you two don’t eat, I won’t be happy." Xu Mumu said with a deliberately stern face.
"We’re already quite old, why waste such good things?" Old Xu waved his hand, hoping all the grandkids could grow up strong. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"Grandpa, it’s because you’re getting older that we need to show our filial piety." Xu Mumu directly brought the egg cake to the old couple’s mouths.
"Our Mumu is so sensible, unlike your uncles and aunts who are already grown but still don’t get it." Old Xu said with emotion, truly touched.
"Why talk about those useless people, I want to see how they manage their lives." Madam Chen said displeased, directly taking the egg cake to eat.
"Grandpa, Grandma, Second Uncle, Third Uncle, and Fourth Uncle are not young anymore. The division of the family was inevitable, you can’t take care of them forever. Lighten up, maybe the division will reduce the conflicts, and you will get less upset." Xu Mumu comforted the old couple.
"We understand all that, it’s just that we feel a bit upset right now. Don’t worry about us, Mumu, we’re fine." Old Xu said with a faint smile. Honestly, after chatting with his granddaughter, he did feel better. They indeed couldn’t take care of the sons forever.
When Xu Mumu came out of the old couple’s room, Li Caixia was already coming in from outside, carrying some small green vegetables. No one knew where she got them from.
"Mom, where did you pick those greens?" Xu Mumu asked.
"From your second cousin’s place, their greens grow the best." Li Caixia said with a beaming smile.
"We have greens in our private plot too. Mom, don’t pick them from others’ fields next time." Xu Mumu said with a headache, almost forgetting her mom’s little habit of sneaking vegetables from others’ fields.
This habit needs to be changed.
"They’re relatives; what’s wrong with picking some of their vegetables? What’s up with you, girl?" Li Caixia looked at her daughter with some helplessness. They didn’t have enough in their own field, so being able to discreetly pick others’ was her skill, and she was quite proud of it.
"Mom, even Second Uncle’s family’s veggies aren’t enough to eat." Xu Mumu said helplessly.
"Who cares about them?" Li Caixia pouted.
"Mom, stealing is wrong." Xu Mumu said seriously.
"Alright, alright, it’s wrong. It’s wrong." Seeing her daughter gearing up for a lecture, Li Caixia quickly scurried away. Recently, it seemed her daughter loved to catch them for a talk.
Watching Li Caixia slip away, Xu Mumu was speechless. Reforming her mother would be a long and arduous journey.
Xu Mumu obediently went to tutor her little brother. When she went over, she surprisingly didn’t see Xu Jiaojiao and Little Tao.
"Where are Jiaojiao and Little Tao?" Xu Mumu asked.
"They didn’t dare come. They said since the family has been divided, it might not be good to come over again." Xu Minglei thought for a moment and said.
"You two watch the books, I’ll go check with Fourth Uncle." Xu Mumu put down the books in her hands and headed toward the fourth house.
Those weren’t the kind of things two kids would say, they must’ve been taught by Fourth Aunt.
When Xu Mumu arrived, Sun Huiping was helping two kids tidy up the room.
"Mumu, what brings you here?" Sun Huiping looked at Xu Mumu with a smile.
"Fourth Aunt, I came to call Jiaojiao and them over for lessons." Xu Mumu looked at the two kids, who had their eyes glisten as soon as they saw her come over.
"We’ve already divided the family. Wouldn’t it be inappropriate?" Sun Huiping hesitated.
"Fourth Aunt, we’ve only divided the family, not cut off ties. Jiaojiao and the others are still my younger siblings. If they like learning, let them come over." Xu Mumu said helplessly.
"Mom, we want to learn from Big Sister." Xu Tao was bolder.
"Alright, go ahead, but don’t cause trouble for your Big Sister." Sun Huiping pursed her lips and eventually nodded.
"We definitely won’t." Xu Tao said joyfully.
Just like that, Xu Mumu led the two kids away, both extremely happy, especially Xu Jiaojiao.
"Big Sister, you’re amazing, you even got my mom to agree to let us learn from you." The little girl looked at her with admiration.
"Your mom is reasonable. If you want to study, you can discuss it with her yourselves." Xu Mumu said, patting the little girl on the top of her head.
"Mom said she’s going to send me and brother to the first grade together next semester." The little girl was extremely happy, as she loved learning and looked forward to the life at school.
"Until then, just study with me. When the time comes to register, you might be able to directly enter the second or third grade." Xu Mumu said with a smile. The two kids had good memories and learned well. They had already finished the first-grade stuff and were now learning second-grade material.
"Can you really do that?" Little Xu Jiaojiao was shocked. This way, she could enter a higher grade sooner. Thinking about it made her excited.
"Of course, by skipping a grade, you’ll save a year’s tuition. That way, you can save money." Xu Mumu said with a smile.
