Chapter 159

When Sang Li and her sisters returned, Sang Li was still sitting in the room cutting paper. Apart from slightly red eyes, she seemed no different than usual.

Her sisters asked about her situation with Gu Zhi, but she didn't say much, only that she had confessed everything to Gu Zhi.

Sang Li knew that tomorrow was Xiao Han's wedding, so she naturally didn't want her affairs to affect everyone's mood. As a 25-year-old adult, she had to conceal her emotions.

The autumn wind was cold, and she was sleepless all night.

...

The next day, the Xiao family was extremely lively.

Although Xiao Han was usually brash, at this moment her heart was inexplicably nervous.

"So this is what it feels like to get married! Sister Li, were you nervous when you married Gu Zhi?"

When Xiao Han mentioned Gu Zhi, Sang Li's eyes dimmed slightly, but her tone was deliberately playful, "Don't be nervous, it's just the wedding ritual. No one asked you to consummate the marriage."

Su Mo smiled, "I think you can consummate the marriage!"

"Mo Mo, don't just talk big. If so, why don't you consummate your marriage with Wu Ying!" Xiao Han retorted.

Xia Miaomiao helped Xiao Han with her hair. "Alright, stop bickering. There are only two months left, let's cherish this last bit of time. After this...we'll never see each other again."

Hearing Xia Miaomiao's words, everyone fell silent, feeling somewhat down.

Xiao Zimo followed behind Xiao Han as they circled Lianhua Village before returning to the Xiao house for the wedding ritual.

In the lively crowd and festive occasion, sincere smiles lit up everyone's faces.

But they didn't know that behind this lively atmosphere was a permanent farewell.

After the ritual, Xiao Han was led to the bridal chamber while Xiao Zimo stayed outside to entertain the guests.

Knowing that Xiao Han would be bored alone, her sisters went to accompany her.

"Ah, these ancient headpieces are so heavy!" Xiao Han lifted her head veil and rubbed her neck.

"Xiao Han, you're supposed to let the groom unveil your head veil," Xia Miaomiao reminded.

"Oh please, I'm not that particular about such customs!" Xiao Han sat up and took a snack from the table. "I'm starving, haven't eaten all day."

The three sisters stared at her.

With her mouth full, Xiao Han mumbled unclearly, "Why are you guys staring at me?"

"Can you pay more attention to your image?" the three said in unison.

Xiao Han swallowed and nearly choked. Xia Miaomiao hurriedly poured her a cup of tea from the pot on the table.

Xiao Han took a sip, only to discover it was wine!

She frowned but still swallowed it, then caught her breath to say, "There's no one else here, why would I need to keep up appearances in front of you?"

"It's still your wedding day. Later on you shouldn't completely disregard yourself, at least maintain a good image in front of Xiao Zimo," Xia Miaomiao advised.

"Oh fine, I'll be careful," Xiao Han took another bite of snacks.

Her sisters didn't really believe Xiao Han's words, but understood her personality and said no more.

"By the way, did you bring my surgical tools, Miaomiao?" Xiao Han asked.

"I brought them. You told me last night, remember?" Xia Miaomiao took out a bundle. "Here."

"What do you need those for? Don't tell me you two want to study anatomy on your wedding night?" Su Mo joked.

"Of course not! I plan to give this set of tools to Xiao Zimo. He's a surgeon so I think it'll greatly aid his future operations," said Xiao Han.

"Hmm... I don't understand the medical romance between you two," Su Mo chuckled.

Sang Li had been sitting silently beside them the whole time.

Noticing something off, Xia Miaomiao tugged Sang Li's sleeve. "Sister Li, what's wrong? You don't look well."

Sang Li shook her head. "It's nothing. I probably didn't sleep well last night and was busy all day today, so I'm a little tired."

"Then hurry to bed and rest!" Xiao Han immediately said.

Sang Li smiled. "Little Han, aren't you oblivious? That's your bridal bed with Xiao Zimo."

"We aren't sleeping together anyway..." Xiao Han grumbled.

"Still, it wouldn't be right. I'm fine, don't worry about me," Sang Li assured.

"Sister Li, what exactly happened between you and Gu Zhi? You two hardly spoke all day!" Su Mo suddenly asked.

At the mention of Gu Zhi, Sang Li struggled to remain composed.

She had concealed her emotions for a long time.

Seeing Sang Li's reddened eyes, the others sensed something was wrong.

"What's going on? Sister Li, did you and Gu Zhi have a fight?" asked Xiao Han.

"It's nothing..." Sang Li desperately held back her tears and spoke lightly. "Gu Zhi just doesn't agree to me having his child. We argued over it a bit."

"I think his disagreement is quite normal," said Xia Miaomiao. "He definitely doesn't want you raising a child alone. And if you had his child, it would be another attachment for him. How could he properly live out his remaining days in this world?"

"But Sister Li wanting a child isn't wrong either! She wanted an attachment to prove the bond between her and Gu Zhi still exists! Besides, Sister Li can provide for the child. We have so many single mothers back home!" countered Xiao Han.

"I know Sister Li did nothing wrong, but from Gu Zhi's perspective it really is unfair to him. If Gu Zhi truly loved Sister Li, he would never agree to her raising their child alone. He probably hopes that Sister Li can forget about him after she returns, and start a new life."

Su Mo looked at Xiao Han then Xia Miaomiao. "Oh hey, I think you both make good points. I don't know which side to take!"

"Forget it...let's not talk about this anymore," Sang Li cut off their discussion and turned to Xiao Han. "Little Han, is there any wine here?"

"There is. The tea pot has wine," Xiao Han pointed at the pot on the table.

"I'd like to drink some wine," said Sang Li.

"Great! Let's drink away all our worries until we forget them all!" Su Mo stood up with the tea pot and poured out cups of wine.

"Yeah, we're not leaving until we're drunk tonight!" Xiao Han raised her cup and got to her feet.

"Alright, we're not leaving until we're drunk!" Sang Li and Xia Miaomiao also stood up. "Cheers!"

The four downed their first cup and continuously drank several more.

With reddened eyes, Sang Li said, "I didn't expect all four of us would fall in love on this time travel journey, when we'd agreed at the start not to get emotionally involved!

"I, Sang Li, have been sober and sensible for over twenty years, yet here I lost my senses once. I love Gu Zhi. I genuinely wanted to have his child, so why doesn't he agree?"

"But we really couldn't control these feelings. I also didn't expect to fall for Hua Wuyou," said Xia Miaomiao, eyes also wet.

"Although he promised to properly spend these last few months together, whenever I think about leaving in the future, I feel I've wronged him greatly," Su Mo took two gulps of wine. "It's the same for me... I clearly hoped Wu Ying wouldn't take risks for me, yet in the end he still did.

"Back when he chased me to Dark Cabinet, I said such hurtful things. I told him I'd never liked him and was only using him, yet he still said no matter if I was using him, he was willing. He has such great martial arts, so why is he so foolish? I guess people who practice martial arts really do have lower IQs..."

"I never imagined that I, someone who has never longed for love, would actually get married here! Don't be fooled by Xiao Zimo's refined gentlemanly appearance - he's actually a big bad wolf! It's all his fault for bringing me to this pit!

However...I'm actually quite happy on the inside. Although our relationship wasn't particularly passionate, he has given me different feelings and experiences in life that I've never had before. Turns out...even someone like me can be liked by others!"

In her original world, girls like her were not popular with men, as most people knew she enjoyed dissections and were scared off by that! What man would dare get close to her?
