A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 15: Infatuated with Her Voice
Hayden Kaye clutched the liquor bottle, his eyes hazy. "I’ve known her since our first year of high school. I waited six years for her, a full six years. I thought about her every single day during that time. I thought as soon as she came back, things would go back to the way they were, but... it seems that was just what I thought..."
Hayden Kaye gave a bitter laugh. "Ninth Uncle, you must think I’m pathetic, don’t you?"
The depths of Jasper Ford’s eyes were dark and inscrutable. Without a word, he walked over, sat down beside Hayden Kaye, and ordered a glass of whiskey.
"Ninth Uncle, are you going to drink with me? I remember you don’t like drinking in places like this." Hayden Kaye looked in surprise at the man’s impeccably handsome profile.
Jasper Ford didn’t speak. He elegantly took a sip of the whiskey. It was strong, but the taste wasn’t bad, so he downed the rest in one go. His clean, graceful movements drew the attention of several nearby girls.
"Oh my god, he’s so handsome!"
"How can a man be that good-looking? I want his number!"
The two girls let out fangirl squeals. Someone even tried to approach and say hello but was scared into a hasty retreat by a single sharp glance from Jasper Ford, not daring to take another step forward and only watching from a distance.
Hayden Kaye chuckled and slumped onto the table, staring dazedly at Jasper Ford. "Ninth Uncle, there’s something I don’t understand. Can I ask you about it?"
"Ask," Jasper Ford’s voice was languid.
Hayden Kaye tilted his head. "Ninth Uncle, is there a girl in your heart, too?"
Jasper Ford’s hand, holding the glass, froze for half a second. A smirk played on his sensual lips. "Why do you say that?"
"You’re the President of Imperium Group. In Crestfall, you’re practically all-powerful. What kind of woman couldn’t you find? Why are you still single?" ’And Jasper Ford is incredibly handsome,’ Hayden thought. ’His family is clearly pressuring him, so why is he still dragging his feet?’
It was true that Wanda Quincy had been by Jasper Ford’s side for the past few years, and Hayden knew Jasper had been supporting her. But Hayden never believed they were truly in love.
"If you really liked Wanda Quincy, you wouldn’t have dragged it out for six years without marrying her. So, you must have a girl hidden in your heart. Am I right?"
The question hit home. Jasper Ford fell silent, his handsome, unflappable face showing no trace of emotion.
But Hayden Kaye knew. He had tacitly admitted it.
This was the kind of understanding between men; even without words, they could guess what the other was thinking.
Feeling like he’d found a kindred spirit, Hayden Kaye suddenly leaned a little closer to Jasper Ford and asked curiously, "What kind of girl does Ninth Uncle like?"
"Why are you asking so many questions?" Jasper Ford scolded sternly.
Hayden Kaye let out a disappointed "oh" and hugged his bottle. "The girl I like... we’re childhood sweethearts. We’ve known each other for many years. She has the sweetest smile I’ve ever seen. When our school used to play in the league, she’d come to every game. Uncle, do you know what it feels like to have the girl you like standing on the sidelines, watching you play?"
Jasper Ford’s face was cold. "No."
"Well, I do. That’s why I love her so much. How can I just give up on so many years of feelings? When I went to see her today, I was going to tell her, ’Let’s get married.’ But before I could even get the words out, she pushed me away. It hurts so much. What should I do...?"
He grabbed Jasper Ford’s sleeve, desperate for an answer.
Jasper Ford subtly pulled his hand away and brushed off his sleeve. "If you like her, then chase her. If you really can’t win her over, find someone new. There are plenty of women in the world, anyway." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"Ninth Uncle is right! I can’t just give up like this!" Hearing Jasper Ford’s words reignited Hayden Kaye’s hope. He clinked glasses with Jasper and took a hard swig, then asked, "By the way, do I know the girl Ninth Uncle likes?"
"You don’t." Jasper Ford shook his head with a faint smile.
Hayden Kaye was very confused. "Who is she?"
Jasper Ford said, "I don’t know."
"Ninth Uncle, you’re teasing me again. Who doesn’t even know the name of the person they like?" Hayden Kaye burst out laughing. He laughed and laughed until he drunkenly collapsed onto the bar, fast asleep.
A nearby staff member called Hayden Kaye’s name a few times with no response and stood there uncertainly, holding the bill. Jasper Ford raised an eyebrow, glanced over, and elegantly took out his Black Card. "I’ll cover his tab."
"Right away, sir." The staff member smiled and took the card.
Jasper Ford took a sip of his drink, his eyes profound. The truth was, he didn’t know who that girl was. He only vaguely remembered a small birthmark on her chest and her seductive voice. For all these years, she had haunted his dreams, impossible to shake, impossible to forget.
As for Wanda Quincy, Jasper Ford always had a sense of revulsion. He felt she was too calculating and her intentions were too obvious. The feeling she gave off was completely different from the girl from that night.
Jasper Ford didn’t know what he was waiting for either. Perhaps he was just waiting for a feeling.
After taking Hayden Kaye back to the Kaye Family estate, Jasper Ford returned to his hotel, staying in Room 797 as usual. After that night, he had permanently booked the room, making it his own exclusive suite.
He stayed the night, and early the next morning, Jasper Ford headed to the office. As his car was about to turn into the garage, he saw a girl walking on the adjacent sidewalk. It was Vivian Quincy.
She had just bought breakfast from a street vendor—a carton of milk and a hot bun. Jasper Ford slowed down, and just as Vivian Quincy walked past his car, he honked the horn.
Outside, the girl’s face went pale with fright. The milk she had just stuck a straw into fell to the ground. She was completely stunned for a moment, then stomped her foot in anger. "Who was that? What a jerk!"
Inside the car, a smile curved the man’s sensual lips. He rolled up the window, accelerated, and drove away.
"Didn’t even apologize, that’s just too much!" Vivian Quincy gritted her teeth in frustration. She glanced heartbrokenly at the carton of milk on the ground, picked it up, and threw it in the trash. Thinking about the salary her vicious president had docked just last night, Vivian Quincy stared longingly at the milk in the trash can. ’I’ll just have to endure it!’ She miserably gnawed on her bun and headed to work.
Her other colleagues had already arrived. When they saw Vivian Quincy, they all scattered, watching her from a distance and whispering amongst themselves. Vivian Quincy found it very strange. She walked over to her supervisor and asked, "Why is everyone acting so weird today?"
The supervisor glanced around, then asked with a beaming smile, "Did you go out with President Ford last night?"
Vivian Quincy found the supervisor’s smile a bit creepy. She was puzzled. "Is there a problem?"
"I had no idea you and the President were so close! I was wrong before. I hope you can be the bigger person and not hold it against me." As soon as the supervisor heard Vivian Quincy’s "admission," her smile widened into a full bloom. Her tone was incredibly fawning as she started sucking up to Vivian.
Vivian Quincy was completely baffled. "I don’t know the President at all. You’ve misunderstood."
"Oh, don’t deny it. This is the first time in years the President has let a girl into his car. Not even his supposed fiancée, Wanda Quincy, gets that kind of treatment." The supervisor had been wondering why the President was so angry when she tried to get rid of a new employee. Now she understood. ’Their President... he’s probably interested in Vivian Quincy!’
