A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 157: Recognized Her at a Glance
Kimberly Shaw was completely unaware that she’d said anything wrong. She even comforted Vivian Quincy, "Don’t be scared. Once I’ve handled things at the company, I’ll find time to take care of that little bitch."
"My hero," Vivian Quincy said, her face devoid of expression.
Kimberly Shaw suddenly leaned in and warned her in a low voice, "But I have to warn you, Jasper Ford is the man I’ve set my sights on. You’d better not have any improper thoughts about him, or I’ll have your head!"
Vivian Quincy couldn’t help but scoff internally. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
’She really had zero interest in Jasper Ford. In fact, she dreamed of someone coming along and snatching him up immediately!’
Before another word was spoken, Jasper Ford and Charles Shaw walked out of the conference room.
"Kimberly, who are you chatting with? You should be in the meeting. Be careful, or I’ll tell your grandpa when we get back," Charles Shaw chided.
Kimberly Shaw smiled. "With you in there, Dad, I don’t need to be. If there are any problems, Jasper will tell me."
Charles Shaw laughed. "You sure know how to take it easy, leaving everything to me..."
His gaze fell upon Vivian Quincy, and his expression stiffened. A flicker of astonishment crossed his eyes. He suddenly asked in a serious tone, "And this is?"
"I’m President Ford’s assistant. My surname is Quincy," Vivian Quincy replied politely.
"Assistant Quincy..." Charles Shaw drew out the name, a peculiar look in his eyes.
Kimberly Shaw tugged at his arm, confused. "Dad, what is it? Is something wrong?"
"Nothing, my eyes are just playing tricks on me." Charles Shaw shook his head and smiled at Kimberly. "Today is the anniversary of your uncle and aunt’s passing. You can’t be running around. Go home and spend more time with your grandparents."
"I know." Kimberly Shaw nodded haughtily. "Why don’t you come too, Jasper? My grandparents are just sitting around at home anyway. The more, the merrier; it’ll liven things up."
"No, thank you." Jasper Ford refused directly. Since it was the memorial for the Shaw family’s eldest son, he felt it would be inappropriate to be too lively.
Charles Shaw studied Vivian Quincy thoughtfully for a moment before saying, quite out of the blue, "President Ford, do me a favor and go see the old folks. They’ve been quite lonely these past twenty-odd years. Oh, and could Assistant Quincy come along as well?"
"Me?" Vivian Quincy was taken aback.
Charles Shaw nodded. "Yes."
’What would an outsider like me be doing there?’ she wondered.
"It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to go," Vivian Quincy said bluntly.
Charles Shaw said, "Don’t worry, we won’t ask you to do anything. Just... come and say hello to my parents. The two of them are especially fond of young people. Who knows, they might be very happy to see you."
For some reason, Vivian Quincy felt this kind, amiable man was speaking in subtext. It seemed like he wanted to say something more, but his words always trailed off into an endless silence.
Vivian Quincy found it strange and was subconsciously about to refuse, but Jasper Ford accepted on her behalf.
"Alright, we’ll head over later."
Vivian Quincy whispered, "President Ford, I have to go home tonight. I’m still wearing yesterday’s clothes, and they’re torn."
"No problem, no problem! I have tons of clothes, many with the tags still on. I’ll give you a couple of outfits later." Kimberly Shaw pulled Vivian Quincy straight out the door. "But if you take my stuff, you have to help me keep a close eye on Wanda Quincy! You absolutely can’t let her get near Jasper."
’Those two have been together for six years, aren’t they together all the time?’ Vivian thought.
「The Shaw Residence.」
It wasn’t as grand as Vivian Quincy had imagined. The nearly century-old traditional courtyard, while not lacking in grace and luxury, was clearly showing its age from a lack of repairs. However, it was built with exceedingly precious golden-thread nanmu wood and had been the favorite courtyard of Master Shaw’s eldest son.
After losing their son, Master Shaw and his wife had lived in this house for decades without ever moving out. They spent their days tending to the nearby rose bushes, their son’s favorite flower.
Kimberly Shaw called a servant to take Vivian Quincy to a side hall to change into some proper clothes, while she and Charles Shaw led Jasper Ford to greet the old couple.
The Shaw and Ford families were old family friends. Jasper Ford’s father used to bring him to visit the Shaws often, but after the old couple experienced the pain of losing their child, their moods became unstable, and they hadn’t been fond of receiving guests in recent years.
The old master, Shawn Shaw, however, was very fond of Jasper Ford. He made an exception to see him and was quite delighted, praising his abilities.
Jasper Ford was very modest. "You flatter me. Compared to you in your prime, Master Shaw, I still have much to learn."
"Neither arrogant nor impatient. Excellent." Shawn Shaw praised him with a kind expression, then continued, "By the way, how are things between you and that Wanda Quincy?"
"What are you referring to, Master Shaw?" Jasper Ford asked.
Shawn Shaw said, "Kimberly is more or less your childhood sweetheart. She’s no worse than Wanda Quincy."
"Grandpa, how can you compare me to Wanda Quincy?" Kimberly Shaw hated Wanda Quincy and was a little upset.
"Watch your tone," Shawn Shaw said.
Kimberly Shaw retorted, "She slept her way to the top. What’s there to praise? I’m different. I have both talent and integrity, and I’m the number one socialite in Crestfall. Even if she manages to become the boss of a publicly listed company, she still can’t compare to me, can she?"
"And are you unclear about how you got that ’number one socialite’ title?" Shawn Shaw asked sternly.
Kimberly Shaw replied, "I bought it with money, of course."
Not a hint of shame!
Shawn Shaw was amused by his granddaughter. He shook his head helplessly. "Fine, fine, you’re better than her. Happy now?"
"That’s more like it." Kimberly Shaw said smugly, then turned back to Jasper Ford. "So? How about it? Be with me."
Jasper Ford’s face was cold.
Kimberly Shaw got angry. "You’re not even going to answer me?"
The cold, ruthless man took out his phone, made a call, and said to Kimberly Shaw, "Say what you just said again."
"I said, be with me! I’m richer than her," Kimberly Shaw repeated.
The next second, an ear-splitting roar erupted from Jasper Ford’s phone: "Kimberly Shaw, I accept! You just wait, I’m bringing the betrothal gifts to your house to propose right now!"
"Wait, who is this?" Kimberly Shaw jumped in fright and hurriedly asked Jasper Ford, "Who did you call?"
"Justin Landon." Jasper Ford’s cool, sexy lips coldly uttered the two words.
Kimberly Shaw practically exploded on the spot. ’So cruel!’
Jasper Ford had the call on speaker. Kimberly Shaw could clearly hear the sound of Justin Landon starting his car on the other end. She roared in anger, "I wasn’t talking to you just now, don’t you dare do anything rash!"
"I heard everything." Justin Landon was stubborn. "I’m bringing my mom’s family heirloom. Just you wait, I’ll be there in ten minutes!"
Kimberly Shaw: ???
’Who wants to be with you!’
"Hang up! Hang up the phone right now! Someone, lock the main gate of the Shaw residence! If anyone dares to let that Landon punk in, I’ll break his legs!"
And so, Kimberly Shaw, who moments ago had been trying every trick to seduce Jasper Ford, was now running around like an ant on a hot pan, making everyone in the house anxious. Finally, they saw her dash into a room, lock the door, and hide inside a closet!
Master Shaw burst out laughing. "You’re a sharp one, kid. Since you’re not interested, I’ll let it be. Yesterday, your Uncle Charles brought back some fine Longjing tea from Rendor. Come with me to the side courtyard and have a taste."
"Alright," Jasper Ford readily agreed.
The Shaw residence was very large. In the backyard, there was a beautiful waterside pavilion, a bamboo grove with chirping birds, and the scenery was exceptionally elegant.
Walking ahead, Master Shaw leaned on his cane, admiring the beautiful scenery of the courtyard as he went. Suddenly, his eyes caught a fleeting glimpse of a stunningly beautiful figure. Master Shaw stopped in his tracks, so agitated that his cane fell to the ground!
