Chapter 75: Chapter 75: You’re Not Worthy of My Woman

"It’s me."

Those two simple words made Zachary Thornton frown. The room Anna had him investigate was actually occupied by Jasper Ford. ’What is going on here?’

Zachary Thornton fell silent as all sorts of sordid images flooded his mind. He pictured Anna going into a hotel and doing... unspeakable things with a strange man. His skin crawled, and a surge of hostility toward Jasper Ford washed over him. He abruptly hung up, not bothering to say another word.

’That damn girl, Anna. If she really dares to cheat on me...’

Furious, Zachary Thornton snapped the pen on his desk in two. He buzzed his secretary on the intercom. "Send Anna in."

Anna arrived a moment later, asking eagerly, "So? Did you find anything?"

Zachary Thornton was seething. He asked sourly, "Before I tell you anything, you need to tell me your relationship with the person staying in that room."

"We don’t have a relationship. Why?" Anna’s eyes widened in confusion.

Zachary Thornton didn’t believe her. "If you have no relationship, why are you investigating him?"

"Are you going to help or not? If not, I’m leaving." Anna spun around to leave, her demeanor completely lacking the humility of someone asking for a favor.

Zachary Thornton was fuming. ’That little brat only dares to push her luck like this with me.’ He wanted to refuse, but he was afraid she would get angry and ignore him. He huffed and called out, "Come back."

Anna walked quickly, showing no sign of stopping.

Zachary Thornton said, "If you don’t come back, I’m not telling you anything."

Having already reached the door, Anna stopped and glanced back at him. "Spit it out."

"Could you at least try to sound like you’re asking for a favor?!" Zachary Thornton demanded. But seeing that Anna was about to lose her temper again, his tone immediately softened. "Alright, fine. I’ll tell you. I don’t know who was in that room six years ago, but it’s been sealed off now."

"Why? Did something bad happen?" Anna asked, confused. "But I’m sure someone’s staying there."

Zachary Thornton shook his head. "The person staying there is Jasper Ford. To be precise, that room has become his private suite. When he doesn’t go home, he stays there. For all these years, he’s the only one who has. So, this investigation of yours is related to Jasper Ford, isn’t it?"

Anna was lost in thought for a moment before shaking her head. "It has nothing to do with Jasper Ford. I need to take some time off. I’m leaving now."

"Who are you rushing off to see now? Request denied!" Zachary Thornton said domineeringly. "Stay here with me."

"If you won’t approve it, I’ll quit." Anna lifted her chin defiantly. Before leaving, she didn’t forget to usher Beanie into Zachary Thornton’s office.

Beanie was still young, but with his cute face and charming personality, he had already won over many people at the company shortly after arriving. Now, sitting in Zachary Thornton’s office, he wasn’t fussy or noisy, nor did he seem afraid. Anna had told him to sit quietly, and so he did, as well-behaved as a miniature adult. He was an incredibly likable child.

However, the more Zachary Thornton looked at the child’s face, the more familiar it seemed, though he couldn’t quite place who he resembled. For some reason, he just didn’t like him. He felt the boy looked too much like someone he despised.

Still, this was the child Anna had brought over. Despite his dislike, Zachary Thornton took good care of him, telling his secretary to buy the little guy some snacks and a drink.

A few minutes later, the secretary who had gone to buy the drink rushed back in, empty-handed and panicked. "This is bad, President Thornton! Anna’s in trouble!"

"What?" Zachary Thornton shot up from his seat.

The secretary explained, "I just went downstairs to get the drink and saw Wanda Quincy from the Quincy Group. She and a few others had cornered Anna. They looked furious, and they even pushed her to the ground."

Before the secretary could even finish, Zachary Thornton was already storming downstairs. Just as she’d said, he saw Wanda Quincy and a few other people bullying Anna.

He was furious. ’The little girl I’ve protected for twenty years... I can’t even bear to touch her roughly myself. This Wanda Quincy must have a death wish!’

At that moment, Wanda Quincy was taking out all her frustration from being unable to find Beanie on Anna. She was completely oblivious to Zachary Thornton approaching from behind as she snarled, "Hand over the child, or don’t blame me for what I’m about to do to that pretty face of yours."

"You bitch, try touching me again!" Anna shot back, craning her neck defiantly, refusing to be intimidated by their numbers.

Called a bitch to her face, Wanda Quincy flew into a rage and swung a slap at Anna without a second thought.

But her hand was caught mid-air before it could land. Startled, Wanda Quincy looked up to see a towering man beside her. When she got a better look, she saw it was Zachary Thornton. Wanda recognized him instantly. "President Thornton? What is the meaning of this?"

A slight smile touched Zachary Thornton’s lips. "Whose face were you about to ruin?"

His voice was utterly menacing.

Wanda Quincy couldn’t help but glance at Anna. ’They know each other? But I investigated her. Anna comes from a perfectly ordinary family. How could she possibly know someone with Zachary Thornton’s status?’

After a quick mental calculation, Wanda Quincy feigned calmness. "I was just talking things over with a friend. It’s nothing."

"Is that so?" Zachary Thornton’s smile turned sinister as the hand gripping Wanda Quincy’s wrist suddenly tightened.

Wanda Quincy cried out in pain. "Zachary Thornton, are you insane? Let go!"

"I think it’s President Quincy who’s lost her mind," Zachary Thornton retorted. Instead of letting go, he tightened his grip even more. "You’ve got some nerve. Who do you think you are, laying a hand on my woman?"

Wanda Quincy’s face twisted in pain, tears welling in her eyes as she cried out, "I’m Jasper Ford’s fiancée! Let go! If he finds out you treated me like this, he won’t let you get away with it!"

"Then by all means, go get him," Zachary Thornton sneered. He felt no shame in manhandling a woman in public and gave her a hard shove.

Wanda Quincy cried out as she fell. She was in high heels and stumbled backward, crashing hard onto the pavement completely off guard. Her face went pale with pain. Her hands and knees were scraped raw and bleeding.

Wanda Quincy’s bodyguards rushed over to help her up, but they accidentally touched her scrapes. She shrieked in pain, tears streaming down her face. Angrily, she shoved the bodyguards away and glared at Zachary Thornton. "You’re finished! This isn’t over between us!"

"Heh." Zachary Thornton scoffed. "If I ever see you bullying Anna again, it won’t end this simply."

With that, he took Anna by the arm and strode away.

Anna was completely stunned. As he led her away, she stared at her childhood friend with a bewildered expression. This was the first time Zachary Thornton had ever protected her like this. Suddenly, he seemed ten feet tall.

Gulping, Anna couldn’t help but say, "You were so cool just now!"

Zachary Thornton stopped his hurried pace and looked down at her. "Are you an idiot? Why didn’t you fight back when she bullied you? What’s the point of being built like you are if you can’t even handle one pathetic woman?"

"Er..." Anna was momentarily speechless.

Zachary Thornton snapped at her, "Say something!"

"She had several bodyguards. How was I supposed to win against them?" Anna muttered.

Zachary Thornton pulled out his phone. "Yates, contact a security firm and hire two bodyguards. They’re to be responsible for Anna’s safety."
