A Mate For The Last Lycan-Chapter 227: THE TRUTH ABOUT THE LYCAN
Chapter 227: THE TRUTH ABOUT THE LYCAN
The morning before the ceremony, where Zuri was in the middle of the preparation with two personal maids that helped her to get into her dress and styled her hair, she was informed that Sir Lorent wanted to see her.
Sir Lorent was the king’s younger brother, but also his advisor, someone whom king Amidas protected to the point, he was willing to step down from his throne for. This was how Zuri made a deal with Jasmine.
Giving Jasmine an idea for her father to step down from the throne on his own, in order to get Khaos’s mercy for her uncle, since Sir Lorent involved in the massacre of the old dynasty three decades ago. He should have been executed along with the other offender yesterday, but because of the deal, he managed to keep his life.
"Great Queen Zuri."
Sir Lorent bowed down in front of Zuri when she allowed him to enter the room. She was curious what he wanted to talk about.
"Sir Lorent," Zuri greeted him with the same way and then waved her hand, indicating for all the maids to leave the room.
However their conversation turned out, it was not for them to hear.
"May I know why I am graced with your presence?" Zuri stood up. The dress felt heavy on her body and this restricted her movement, but she liked the golden color. It was the color of the old dynasty and Khaos would wear the same color as well.
"I want to thank you for saving my life," Sir Lorent said. He had this heavy and deep voice, like someone with wisdom and a pair of sharp eyes. He looked like a younger version of king Amidas, but with a thick wickedness behind his calm façade.
Zuri was alerted. This man might not attack her physically, but the fact he was here already raised a suspicion. It was enough to put her on guard.
However, the voices in her head chose this moment to start talking. From the corner of her eyes, she could see her father was standing with his arms crossed and mumbled something.
"I didn’t do anything."
"I know that you have offered the solution to make my brother step down from his throne in order to save my life."
Zuri raised her brows, she was not sure whether this was him being thankful, or he was mocking her. And as if he could see the doubt on Zuri’s face, he explained himself a little bit better.
"I am here to say my gratitude for you, Great Queen Zuri." Sir Lorent bent his body, his gesture looked genuine, but for someone like him, it could mean anything.
"What do you want, sir Lorent. I didn’t do that out of kindness of my heart." Zuri didn’t think there was even kindness in her heart. "Make it quick, I have a ceremony to attend."
Lorent nodded, he understood they didn’t have all day for sweet talk.
"I am here to show my gratitude. Because you have saved my life, I will save yours."
Zuri tilted her head, she crossed her arms and looked at him without saying anything, prodding him to explain with that statement.
"I come with a warning."
"A warning?" Zuri repeated the word with a mocking smile, but Sir Lorent looked unperturbed with her rudeness. "Do you want to warn me?"
"Yes." He nodded. "Do you know why the old dynasty was taken down?"
"Should I care about that?"
"You have to. This is about your life."
Zuri wanted to laugh to his face. The audacity he had when he talked about this was shocking. If there was someone between them, whose life was in danger, it would be him. Did he forget that he almost lost his life?
However, there was something about him that made Zuri stopped herself to mock him. He looked very serious, as if he believed whatever thing that he was going to say. As if he believed that Zuri’s life was in danger.
"You saved my life, so this is how I repay you."
"Say whatever you need to say and then leave. You waste my time." Zuri took a step closer, she looked assertive and she carried herself well. "My life doesn’t need to be saved."
"You don’t know the extent of the lycan’s cruelty." Lorent didn’t back down. This time, he didn’t beat around the bush and blurted out whatever thing that he needed her to know. "The rumor about how cruel and brutal the old dynasty was, was not a baseless rumor. That’s the truth. Some part was being exaggerated, but there was truth in it."
"Are you going to tell me that massacre an entire lycan race was justified."
"Yes."
Zuri was actually surprised with his bluntness.
"Do you even know half of their cruelty?" Lorent took a step closer toward Zuri and this put her guard up, she could sense danger.
And somehow, she was afraid to hear what he was going to say next.
"The lycan used people to perform their ritual. They put dark curses on people to gain their ultimate power. Do you even know what ultimate power that they could have if the dark curses were completed?"
Zuri was stunned. He knew. He knew about the beauty blood and from the way he looked at her, she could tell that he also knew that she was the Shell.
"Do you know how many people have to die because of that stupid ritual? So, they could gain the ultimate power of the shifter?"
Lorent took another step closer and this time, Zuri took a step back. She felt exposed. Not many people knew about the beauty blood and people, who knew about it related to Khaos, someone that was on Khaos’s side.
But, this man actually knew about the dark curses.
"They took commoner children to perform the ritual, but when it failed, they tried with the nobles’ children, since they were stronger. Do you have any idea what they had done to them?"
