Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Unrivaled Light

"What good would joining your sect do us?" Grayson asked Elder Mai.

"You already have something in mind so spit it out. Otherwise, you wouldn’t still be here talking to me." Elder Mai said calmly.

"I have a preposition for you and your sect." Grayson said.

"What is it?" Elder Mai asked.

"I need to reach to a certain level within 2 years and to do that I will need access to all A-ranked missions and above. I can’t afford to waste time on missions ranked any less than that. If you can give me access to that then we will join your sect." Grayson answered.

"You’re only an Ascended Cultivator, you’ll just end up killing yourself trying to take on more than you can handle. No matter how talented you are, what good would joining our sect do if you’re dead? Getting lucky with one S-rank mission doesn’t prove you’re qualified to do any missions higher than that." Elder Mai said.

"Then fight us. I can feel that your power. We are no match for you. However, if we can last one minute against you, which is more than what most can say are capable of doing, then you will meet my demands and give us access to those missions, but if you defeat either one of us within that minute, then we will join your sect and become your disciples.

I can go to any other sect and offer my expertise to gain access to these missions. Just know, if I go to another sect, Hardon Sect will no longer be at the top." Grayson said.

"Ha alright, this is fine. Young hosts now days are too arrogant. Follow me." Elder Mai said with a voice full of confidence then led them to a door in the middle of a field. This was the same door that Grayson and company used to go into the Garden of Donations.

’Master, this place is rich with exousia. It could improve our synchronization!’ Death said to Grayson through his thoughts.

’There’s no rush. We will be back.’ Grayson reassured Death.

Elder Mai then walked through the door, with all three of us following closely behind. We then free fell 300 stories down to the 200th floor and landed on a platform. Before us was a door with the number 4 highlighted on it.

"We can fight in here." Elder Mai said as she opened the door.

A vastly spacious training room was revealed. The room was fully white and was as big as a small town. It towered as high as The Eiffel Tower.

"Are you sure about this you guys? Elder Mai isn’t your average host. Even Heavenly Hosts respect and are weary of her. Not to mention, she is a Legendary Host and you both are only Ascended Cultivators. The gap is too big!" Gen said to Grayson and Lilith worryingly.

"We will be fine Gen, just sit on the side and keep track of the time." Lilith said confidently.

Grayson then clenched his fist and casually punched the ground. Runes, highlighted in yellow, began to appear around the area upon impact. The entire space shook for a moment, but the ground remained intact.

"It’s sturdy, impressive work!" Grayson complimented.

Elder Mai then suddenly vanished and appeared 500m away in an instant.

"Show me the power you used to clear Mission Z." Elder Mai said as her entire body began to glow silver.

A silver orb, the size of a basketball, materialized before her and began to rotate around her.

The orb seemed to be made up of nothing but light. If one looked closer, they would notice the orbs slowly solidify.

Grayson smirked upon seeing this then immediately charged towards Elder Mai, alongside Lilith. They instantly closed the gap between them and Elder Mai, sending their fists flying at her.

She easily blocked their attacks, but only for the first few seconds. This was the first time that Lilith and Grayson had ever fought an opponent together, so their coordination was below average at first. Despite this, they were quick to learn from each other’s movements and adjusted their coordination accordingly.

Soon, they began to get a few hits in. At this point, Elder Mai’s silver orb had completely materialized and became solid. Her speed drastically increased and they could no longer keep up with her, despite their increased coordination.

(45 seconds left!)

Gen shouted from a corner.

’We need to pass by the time and slow her down somehow. I still haven’t fully synchronized with Death so I can’t fully bring him out yet. Perhaps I may have enough to intimidate her.’ Grayson thought to himself smiling.

Grayson’s aura suddenly went cold as a dark cloud began to form around his hands. An aura of death blanket the entire room, making even Gen, who was hundreds of meters away, find it hard to breathe.

Elder Mai then retreated a few steps back, after feeling the presence of Death coming from Grayson. "This is-!" Elder Mai said out loud then quickly clenched her fist and began running circles around Grayson and Lilith.

Gen shouted once more. A second silver orb began to materialize around Elder Mai as she continued to run circles around Grayson and Lilith.

Elder Mai cultivated with the Path of Light at a high degree. Her cultivation technique, Unrivaled Light, made her unrivaled under the heavens when cultivated to its peak.

After circulating the technique within her, a silver orb made of light began to manifest before her. As she expended more energy, more of her exousia flowed into the orb and solidified.

The more energy she expended, the faster the orb solidified. Damaging her body also quickened this process. There were 3 orbs in total. The first orb drastically increased her speed, making it very easy for her to expend energy.

The second orb increased her defense and durability by solidifying light around her body. Once the orb manifestsed fully, herbody shone with a protective silver light. The orb itself would also defend the user all on its own. This greatly increased her defense.

The third orb, however, is the most dangerous of all three and Grayson.

"Lilith, we cannot allow the third orb to manifest. I have a bad feeling about that one. Slow her down for a little while." Grayson said to Lilith.

"Got it." Lilith said then began to gather exousia around her and into her body.

"Do you think you can win against me by simply stalling?" Elder Mai said out loud.

’What is she doing?’ Elder Mai thought as she observed Lilith.

"Whatever you’re doing, I won’t let you finish." Elder Mai said out loud then charged toward Lilith.

Grayson then came from the side with a flying kick, striking Elder Mai on her waist. Elder Mai went flying a few meters away then twisted her body in the air and recovered from the kick.

’Shit that hurt!’ Grayson thought as he felt a small bone fracture on his ankle after kicking Elder Mai.

Her defense had already began to increase. An explosion suddenly sounded from where Lilith stood as an aura of a Mythical Host radiated off of her.

"What! She broke through in the middle of a fight, that’s impossible!" Elder Mai exclaimed.

Lilith’s pathways expanded as a unique power began to rise from within her and strengthen her body.

She then charged at Elder Mai with an explosive speed and began to attack her. Unfortunately, Elder Mai was still considerably faster. Lilith could just barely keep up with her.

(15 seconds left!)

Gen shouted. Lilith and Elder Mai continued to exchange blows. Suddenly, a silver orb began to block most of Lilith’s attacks. Another silver orb began to form immediately.

Upon sensing the energy coming from the third orb, that was still manifesting, Lilith’s instincts kicked in. She suddenly leapt back hundreds of meters. It was like her entire body warned her to retreat.

However, she didn’t get far. Elder Mai quickly appeared before her as she was still retreating. She grabbed Lilith’s face, and smashed it on the ground. Not taking a moment to breathe, Lilith quickly wrapped her tail around Elder Mai’s neck in retaliation, and threw her across the room. Lilith went crashing against a wall.

Elder Mai smacked her back on the wall and crashed into it, slightly damaging the defensive array placed in the room. A wide smile crept on Elder Mai’s face. She immediately launched herself back at Lilith before she could even get up.

(10 seconds left!)

Gen shouted in anticipation. Elder Mai then grabbed Lilith’s tail and smacked her body against the wall repeatedly. The wall cracked heavily as injuries began to appear around Lilith’s body. For the first time, Lilith bled. The wall now decorated with her blood.

An aura of death raged violently from behind Elder Mai. She quickly turned back and saw Grayson approaching, now only a few steps away from Elder Mai. A dark cloud flowed out of Grayson’s hands and began to slowly spread all around the room.

"Forget our arrangement. Touch her again and I will kill you!" Grayson threatened as he approached Elder Mai like death itself.

Her hands began to tremble in fear as her mind went in a daze.

’What an intimidating soul power!’ Elder Mai exclaimed in her head.

(5 seconds left!)

Gen shouted once more. This woke up Elder Mai from her stupor and she immediately became alert. She then quickly broke her index finger and fully awoke from her daze.

’Just one more second and my third orb will materialize. I just need to hold on till then.’ Elder Mai thought to herself as she endured the pain.

Grayson then morphed his dark cloud into that of a spear almost twice his height.

"Drop-the tail!" Grayson said coldly as the spear, began to compress into a smaller size.
