A Reaper's Philosophy-Chapter 71: Squirts (On A Stick)

"Drop the tail!" Grayson said coldly as a spear made of the dark cloud, continued to compress to a thinner size.

"You’re too late!" Elder Mai shouted, now sure of her victory.

An overwhelming pressure now started to come from the third silver orb. A strange power began to flow into her. Space began to twist and distort around the third orb.

Grayson’s eyes then glowed with an intimidating dark shade of scarlet. His eyes looked as though nothing could be hidden from them. He then threw the spear with an incredible force.

The spear was so thin it didn’t look like Grayson was throwing anything. Elder Mai was prepared to dodge it nonetheless. However what she didn’t expect was for Grayson to aim for something else instead of her.

’The orb!’ Elder Mai watched a small dark tint rush towards the orb.

’It’s impossible to destroy it but still...’ Elder Mai thought as she let go of Lilith’s tail then rushed to grab the spear. The spear pierced the air, then compressed into a size so thin it could no longer be seen by the naked eye.

With the spear now being so thin, Elder Mai was unable to grab it. Cracks immediately began to appear around the third orb. All Elder Mai could do was watch as it crumbled down.

"How-!" Elder Mai exclaimed.

Whilst still in her daze, she received an explosive punch to her face from Lilith. A massive shockwave was made upon impact and Elder Mai was sent flying across the room.

Gen shouted as he went running towards Grayson and Lilith.

"I want to kill her." Lilith said as she wiggled her hand to ease her pain. Blood could be seen dripping from her head and down her face, making her look like a nightmare.

"It’s over." Grayson commanded.

"Oh don’t pretend to talk big with me now..." Lilith said teasingly.

"Drop the tail." She said trying to mimic Grayson’s voice.

"You were sooo worried, but it would take a lot more than that to bring me down." Lilith added.

Grayson then grabbed Lilith’s waist then pulled her closer. "You’re right, I was worried. So don’t let yourself get beaten like that again."

"Yes Grayson sir." Lilith teased with a salute as her tail waved left and right.

Grayson then rolled his eyes at Lilith and turned his focus to Elder Mai.

"I believe we won. Our bet will begin to take effect tomorrow. For now, I’m sure we could all use some rest." Grayson said to her.

"How? How did you destroy my orb? That orb contained the power of an entire world. Simply attacking it wouldn’t make it collapse!" Elder Mai said with shock.

"There were flaws within your third orb. The orb didn’t fully materialize. You should know this. I just attacked that gap and expanded it a little. Your technique isn’t very solid." Grayson answered her.

"That’s-, that’s not possible. Even I haven’t been able to see those flaws. Just where did you come from? Who is your master?" Elder Mai asked expectently.

"Both those questions are difficult to answer as I am not so sure myself." Grayson said then turned to walk away alongside Gen and Lilith.

"How are you so sure I will keep my word? Do you have some powerful backer to force me if I refuse?" Elder Mai asked trying to get more answers.

"I just trust you to be a woman of your word, that is all." Grayson said as he waved away.

"Grayson, you’re amazing. To go toe to toe with Elder Mai and come out victorious! How? How are you so strong in such a weak realm?" Gen asked in admiration.

"Make no mistake, Elder Mai is much stronger than I am right now. Had that orb completely formed, it would have had no flaws to reveal, not even with these eyes." Grayson said to Gen.

Gen then looked into Grayson’s eyes and saw a pair of beautiful dark, scarlet eyes. In front of Grayson were three messages floating that only he could see.

’The color of his eyes changed!’ Gen exclaimed in his head.

"What exactly are those eyes?" Gen asked.

"I don’t know how to explain them." Grayson replied.

’Maybe I can explain them.’ Grayson thought to himself after reading the eye’s description.

"Do you want to eat out today? There’s a great spot where they sell these squid like creatures, but on a stick. The sweet juices from the eggs of their undeveloped young serve as an exquisite sauce." Gen said to Lilith.

"It’s getting harder to tell if you’re joking or not." Lilith replied as they walked through the door.

"Gen, you stay!" Elder Mai commanded as she allowed Lilith and Grayson to leave.

"Do not do anything to offend those two. They definitely have a powerful backer behind them. Perhaps someone that even our Hardon Sect cannot deal with. It isn’t normal for an Ascended Host to be that powerful." Elder Mai warned.

Lilith and I then free fell to the ground floor, leaving Gen behind to talk to Elder Mai.

"How about we go out for dinner?" I said to Lilith as we fell.

"You better not be messing with me. I’m actually hungry and do not have the energy to entertain your games." Lilith said sternly.

"No games, I want to have dinner with you." Grayson said.

The moment we landed on the ground, Tempelis appeared before us, still levitating exactly one foot from the ground.

"You survived, congratulations. Elder Mai told me to hand you these if you made it out alive." Tempelis said handing them holding two jade like purple balls.

They each took a ball and crushed them in their hands. A sticky, purple substance then moved around their bodies as though it were alive and slipped into their skin. A tattoo of the sect’s symbol was then revealed on Grayson’s left peck and one on Lilith’s right thigh.

"You are now officially members of the Hardon Sect. That symbol will give you free access to enter and leave the Hardon Palace freely and also serves as a monitor in all missions. You will be required to do at least one mission each month. Any reason not to must be reported to an elder.

The symbol also has its perks around the city so you can look forward to that. Good luck." Tempelis said to them swiftly then disappeared back to her post.

"That woman already planned for this." Grayson said with a smile.

He then turned to the side and realized Lilith was no longer next to him. He looked back and saw Lilith was already close to the exit and was ready to leave.

"Hurry up, you owe me dinner." Lilith shouted from afar.

Grayson then smirked and rushed to Lilith’s side. They then left the sect together and realized it was already night time once they were outside.

They began to wonder the streets of Madsus City and eventually came across a huge market. The market was in a wide street that was 3km long. In some places, the street went underground and in others it continued above the ground. It was a marvel to see.

They began to wonder through the market looking at the various foods around.

"Hey arent those the squid things Gen was talking about?" Lilith said pointing at the street vendor up ahead.

They then approached the vendor and asked about the squids.

"These are no ordinary squids, they are squirts on a stick! These Squirts are a rare Ordinary Beast that can only be captured under the light of a full moon. On any other day, they are completely invisible to anyone. Even a Mythical Host won’t be able to spot them.

The squids also have the power to charm their enemies. They are completely harmless though and only use this power as a defense mechanism. The female squid’s eggs, fortunately, absorb this power. Giving them an irresistible taste. " The man said proudly.

The man selling them on the street gave them each a squirt on a stick and provided sauces on the side.

"If they are so rare how come so many vendors are selling them?" Grayson said as he poured the sauce, made from the squirt’s undeveloped young, on both his squirt and Lilith’s.

"They really are. It’s simply been a good haul recently." The vendor said.

"Alright then, dig in!" Grayson said with a smile.

He then ate the squirt in one bite and munched on it as the squirt’s juices dripped down the edge of his mouth.

Lilith watched Grayson in horror and disgust as he munched away.

’He takes me out for dinner for the first time and this is what he feeds me!’ Lilith exclaimed in her head disappointedly.

"Don’t knock it till you try it." Grayson said out loud then gestured to the man selling squirts to give him 10 more. He then quickly finished those as well in no time.

’This feels wrong. Why does this feel so wrong to me?’ Lilith thought to herself as she finally took a small bite out of the squirt she was holding.

Juices exploded in her mouth as she bit into it.

’It’s sweet?’ Lilith thought then ate the rest in a single bite. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Wow, these things really live up to their name." Lilith said out loud with a mouth full of squirt.

She then dropped two handful of electrum and bought every squirt the man had to offer including the sauces.

"This city lives up to its name!" Grayson added.

The man excitedly sold them the squirt and sauces and was happy to be closing early on that night.

"Please come again, you both are now my most valued customers." The man said to them respectfully.

They then left with 25 squirts each in hand. The sauces levitated around them in the air.

"This isn’t such a bad dinner, I can’t get enough of these. What’s been going on with you anyways?" Lilith asked as she joyously ate her squirt.

"We don’t belong here." Grayson said seriously.

"Would you stop joking around and just-..." Lilith began to say but then someone suddenly crashed into them.

A 7-foot humanoid creature with dry skin and bloodshot, red eyes lay on the ground next to Grayson and Lilith.

Its’s skin was grey in color, but its body was like that of an ordinary man. If you were to disregard the horns growing around his body. The tiny, black horns could be seen on its back, collarbone, feet, and the back of its hands.

"A grimme! What’s a grimme doing in the city!" Grayson exclaimed out loud.

Lilith on the other hand was only staring at the spilled sauces and squirts spilled on the ground.
