Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Protect Our Madsus City

"A grimme...!" Grayson said with shock.

"You!" Lilith said finally facing the grimme on the ground.

A bloody hole could be seen on the grimme’s chest, but it was somehow still alive and panting. With anger, Lilith swiftly stepped on the grimme’s head, crushing its skull.

To everyone’s surprise, the grimme immediately stood up after and threw a punch at Lilith. His movements were quick and Lilith did not expect the grimme to still be able to move even after its head had been crashed.

However, right before the grimme’s punch could make contact, a hand went through its chest, creating yet another hole on it’s body. On the hand was one of the grimme’s heart.

"A grey grimme has two hearts. If you don’t properly dispose of both hearts, their bodies will continue to be pumped with vitality and will remain undying.

Their hearts are as small as a golf ball, and will seek out its owner if it’s not disposed of." Grayson said as a dark cloud consumed the heart in his hand.

At the same moment, Ravana came walking towards them with a bloody sword in her hand.

"Where’s The Bartender?" Grayson immediately asked her.

"On an emergency mission decreed by the queen. An Unknown is threatening Evnoia. He won’t be back till morning." Ravana answered as she slashed her sword to the side, splashing the grimme’s blood on the ground, before sheathing it.

"Do they know?" Grayson asked.

"This one was just a scout, I crossed paths with him before he could report back. Unfortunately, this is most likely not the only scout they sent. So, we should assume that they already know...The Bartender has left the city!" Ravana replied worringly.

"What the hell is going on? What’s with this talk about grimmes?" Lilith asked in frustration.

"The grimmes must have gotten wind of The Bartender leaving the city. This would be the perfect time to sieze the queen and plug the hole." Ravana said to her.

"What is a grimme? How do you know all this?" Lilith asked suspiciously.

"You should know as well. Long ago, we researched these grimmes together. We are not from this world. We do not belong here Lilith. At least I don’t. However, Theos did something to us. Even I needed Death to fully break free from his laws.

Don’t worry though, we’ll figure this out. We don’t have much time. For now you need to know there are 3 types of grimmes. Grey grimmes, like the one we just killed, are of the lowest tier.

They are only a threat when under another grimme’s control, otherwise they would always flee when making contact with any human. They have 2 hearts, and their strength is comparable to that of an Ascended Host.

Silver grimmes are a higher class than grey grimmes and are easily distinguishable. They have tall slender bodies with a silver tint. You will also notice that they have no face.

They have enough intelligence to give commands to the grey grimmes, but are still slightly below average compared to human intelligence. Their strength, however, is comparable to a Mythical Cultivator’s so they shouldn’t be underestimated.

White grimmes are the highest tier. They are rarely seen around and often remain in seclusion unless there’re special circumstances. As the original inhabitants of Evnoia, white grimmes have a deep connection with exousia. They can absorb it from anything, living or dead.

Let’s just hope there aren’t any white grimmes around. Just one of them here would be a problem. Since they are capable of growing in strength, I can’t really compare their strength to any level of hosts.

I do know a white grimme is at least as strong as a Heavenly Host. A grimme is able to evolve to a higher tier after completing a certain condition, a condition we were never able to figure out." Grayson explained to Lilith.

"I sense them, they’ve already gathered outside the city." Lilith said as she ate the last squirt on her hand.

She glared at the spilled squirts on the ground.

"Come on, we can take them." Lilith added as she walked towards the city gates whilst cracking her knuckles.

"You could just pick them up and dissolve the dirt off the squi-..." Grayson began to say.

"I’m no PEASANT to be eating food off the ground! Now let’s go make these grimmes pay!" Lilith interrupted.

"Lilith! We can’t. If there’s a white grimme amongst them, we will end up being killed as we are now." Grayson warned.

"I get it. I’ll keep an eye out..." Lilith said.

She didn’t wait any longer and disappeared. They then all rushed for the city walls. A couple dozen miles from the wall was an army comprised of hundreds of grey grimmes and a couple dozen silver grimmes.

Grayson and company stood over the wall of the city gate. One after another, hosts from different sects began to appear and filled the wall. Without warning, the grimmes began to charge towards the city gate. Their roars could be heard clearly even dozens of kilometers away.

"Attack whoever gets past me!" Grayson said to Lilith then dropped from above the wall and began to approach the army of grimmes.

He swiftly charged towards the grimmes on his own. The grimme’s roars got louder and louder as he approached.

The silver grimmes saw Grayson charge at them on his own and were pleased to see someone stupid enough to attack alone. Even from where they stood, they could sense he had the energy of an Ascended Host.

"What is that idiot doing, does he have a death wish!" Someone exclaimed from above the wall.

This alerted the others above the wall as they all watched Grayson charge at the incoming grimmes.

"Some arrogant idiot with a death wish."

"Probably just trying to show off, or maybe suicide?."

"RIP"

Lilith heard the negative comments thrown at Grayson and felt annoyed by these people. However, she kept her feelings to herself and watched Grayson as well.

Grayson continued to shorten the gap between him and the grimmes and took his time doing it. He then released a portion of the dark cloud out of his left hand and shaped it into the size of a basketball. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

When the grimmes were 20 feet away, he threw the basketball shaped dark cloud at them. The cloud flew right to the middle of the grimme army and landed on the head of a grey grimme.

The cloud then began to devour the grey grimme as it screamed in pain. The process was slow, but eventually the entire grimme was consumed. The dark cloud then attached itself on another grey grimme and began devouring it as well. This time the process was slightly faster.

As this was happening, Grayson was about to face the grimme army. Three grimmes leaped into the air to attack Grayson. In an instant, Grayson swiftly punched a hole into each of the grey grimme’s chests, obliterating their hearts in the process.

He then grabbed another grimme and dug his hand into it’s chest. He then ripped its body in two. He threw the two body parts towards the dark cloud that was devouring another grimme and got slowly absorbed by it.

Grimmes then swarmed towards Grayson from every angle and tried to pin him down, but they couldn’t keep him down for long. Grayson broke free from the swarm and began crashing skulls and ripping bodies apart at an incredible speed.

Everywhere his hands went a grey grimme would be crashed by it then swiftly thrown towards the dark cloud to be devoured. Purple lightning began to spark all around the battlefield.

’I should focus on getting Death back in shape.’ Grayson thought to himself.

Grayson continued his massacre and showed no signs of slowing down. The grimmes would always seem to trap him in a corner, but his body would make weird angles and positions to attack and defend, even when it seemed impossible to do so.

"Holy shit!!!"

"What the hell! Who is this guy?"

"Isn’t he just an Ascended Host?"

"How can he move like that?"

"Look, some of the grimmes are ignoring him and charging towards the city!"

"Prepare to defend!"

The hosts lined up above the city walls were all looking at Grayson in disbelief. Although they were shocked by Grayson taking on so many grimmes on his own, these were still hosts.

Each one of them had gone through hardships and had experienced life and death situations to get where they were. They quickly woke up from their stupor. Although they were from different sects, survival came first and each of them understood that they had a job to do.

"Protect our Madsus City!" An Ascended Cultivator shouted.

Evnoia had craters all around its surface that seeped exousia through from a different dimension. Exousia is so abanduntly infinite, it created its own separate infinitly expanding dimension to contain itself.

No one in Evnoia knew how or why exousia was seeping into their world, but they knew that the craters were their main conection to an infinite supply of exousia into their world.

The sole purpose of the grimmes is to seal off these craters, and cut off the connection with exousia.

With so many powerful hosts and beasts around, if all the craters were to be sealed off, the exousia in Evnoia would be expended within a century or less.

Lilith suddenly dropped from the wall as well. She then confronted the grimmes that got past Grayson. She conjured a dagger on both hands and began a massacre of her own. Her movements with the blades were fierce, yet had a sense of fluidity to them.

Each time she stabbed a grimme in the heart it looked like the blade was following a predetermined path and nothing could stop it from reaching its destination.

The silver grimmes that were commanding the armies saw many of their kind being slaughtered and felt terrible. They could not imagine their invasion would play out like this. They had no choice but to join in on the fight before the casualties increased even further.

Grimmes have no afterlife like other living beings. When they died, their souls go into Evnoia and their bodies get reformed. This process, however, takes centuries.

When they wake up again, they wake up to a different world. Different from the one they knew before. With humans growing in population and the state of the grimmes being worse than before.

Grayson saw a message appear in front of him each time the cloud absorbed a grey grimme. The cloud got bigger and absorbed the grimmes faster with each kill. Soon, it began pulling in the grey grimmes that were closer to it, like a magnet, absorbing them even faster.

{80 grey grimmes absorbed.}

The silver grimmes quickly reached Grayson and attempted to stop his killing spree. The silver grimmes were much stronger than the grey grimmes and were more intelligent as well.

They strategically attacked Grayson with trees and bolders from afar as he was being bombarded by grey and silver grimmes. Their aim was unbelievably accurate. If they wanted they could skewer a fly from hundreds of miles away.

The force behind their throws was dozens of times more powerful than a 50 caliber. If one of them were to hit Grayson, he wouldn’t walk out of there unscathed.

Grayson then jumped up into the air and conjured a pair of pitch black wings. He then conjured a bow with arrows in a quiver.

The wings had smoke constantly rising off of them, making it look like they were on fire. Looking like an angel of death, he aimed his arrows at the silver grimmes. Each time he sent an arrow flying, a grimme’s heart would be pierced and corroded.

His target wasn’t just the grey grimmes, but the silver ones as well. Grayson was especially aiming for those close to the dark cloud that was still absorbing grey grimmes nearby. He wanted to evolve Death as quickly as possibly.

Healing Grayson’s wounds cost Death a lot of his own soul essence. He needed to recover it to even take a physical form.

{90 grey demons absorbed.}

’Just 10 more and Death will evolve!’ Grayson thought to himself.

The cloud was now as big as a house, not sparing a single grimme that crossed it.

Grayson then left the cloud to absorb the grey grimmes, knowing Death will evolve soon. He then took back his wings then free fell back down. He crash landed on top of a silver grimme and punched it four times, creating 4 holes on the grimmes’s body and destroying its hearts.

"Who’s next?" Grayson said out loud as he stared down the rest of the silver grimmes.

Suddenly, a silver-white, tentacle like arm, pierced through Grayson’s right shoulder from behind. The tentacle like arm then quickly retreated.

Looking back, Grayson saw a silver-white looking grimme walking up to him with his blood still on the demon’s hands.

The blood slipped off of the grimme’s hands and left no trace of it being there. It was as though it’s body could not be tainted and rejected all impurities.

’Shit, I didn’t even sense it behind me!’ Grayson cursed to himself, as he covered the wound on his shoulder.

The white grimme looked different from the other grimmes. The other grimmes had hornes visibly protruding out of their bodies in certain areas.

White grimmes, however, had smooth and slender bodies without hornes. Their bodies were decorated with galaxies and constelations, much like Dalia, but white.

This grimme, was much like the white grimmes. It had a body that looked sculpted. It’s face was perfectly defined. Its eyes were pitch black and had 2 literal blue suns for irises. A galaxy could be seen at the center of it’s chest. 2 silver horns protruded from its hands.

As it continued to walk towards Grayson, a suffocating pressure radiated from its body.

’It still has silver horns! It hasn’t completely evolved yet! Still, it has already formed a galaxy.’ Grayson thought to himself.
