A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 76: Let’s get divorced
"If your wife sues me for sexual harassment, I am going to have to take some measures against you. You would not like that, will you?" Curtis stated firmly.
Mike raised his eyebrows, feigning indifference.
"And what would those measures be?" he drawled.
Curtis’s expression remained blank. Unyielding.
"You prevented Lara from getting pregnant by giving her something to stop her womb from procreating. I could have you arrested for attempted murder," he deadpanned.
Blood drained from Mike’s face. His heart pounded with fear, but he tried not to show it.
This was a man to man conversation, and Mike was not willing to let Curtis smell fear in him.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about," he quipped.
Curtis leaned back on his chair and his eyebrows rose disdainfully.
"Really? You’re going to deny it when you know I might have proof?"
Mike’s blood was starting to turn cold. He didn’t know what sort of proof Curtis was talking about, but he knew the man wasn’t one to bluff.
And going to jail was definitely not on Mike’s list.
"What do you want me to tell Tolu? That woman is as stubborn as a mule. I can’t...I can’t tell her what to do," he confessed instead, deciding to swallow his pride and come clean.
Mike wished he could tell Curtis that Tolu was starting to scare him a lot, and that these days, he couldn’t even sleep properly with her by his side.
He had no idea why she was suddenly exhibiting strange and very violent behaviour. It was as though she had been possessed by a vengeful spirit.
"If you are admitting right now that you are less of a man than you actually are, you disgust me. But your marriage dynamics are none of my business. Stop her from feeding the media any sort of false lies and I will leave you guys alone."
Mike straightened his back and held Curtis’s gaze.
"And what if I say no?"
Curtis shrugged.
"You’ll have to spend the rest of your life in jail. With her, of course. It’s as simple as that."
Mike ran a hand through his hair in frustration.
"I genuinely don’t know what you expect me to do. I...she...this is so fucking exhausting," he snapped.
Curtis leaned forward on his desk.
"I know what you can do to stop her. It should be enough of a distraction to take her mind off of me. And you will be free from her clutches. A win-win for the both of us."
Unable to help himself, Mike’s interest was piqued.
And without saying anything else, he listened attentively to Curtis’s suggestion.

When Mike got back home, he met Tolu in the kitchen. She was preparing dinner, and the dining table sitting across her was half filled with food.
The smell of delicious meals wafted into Mike’s nose. His anger deepened.
"Hey, baby. Welcome. How was work?" she asked. There was a wide smile on her face, and her voice rang cheerily across the house.
Tolu was obviously in a happy mood, and Mike shook his head internally at her.
How could she afford to be happy when she had almost ruined his life with her stupid, rash plans?
"You did not tell me what the outcome of your visit to the company was yesterday. What happened? Did you meet Curtis?" he asked instead, ignoring her questions.
Tolu sighed.
"Do we really have to talk about this now? I was hoping we could have a good dinner. Spend some quality time together," she said instead.
Mike’s expression didn’t waver. He held her gaze, letting her see that he was serious and wasn’t going to change his mind unless she spoke.
The silence stretched between them for a few minutes before she shrugged.
"Fine. If you are that curious, I’ll tell you what happened. Have a seat, we can talk while we eat," she said.
Mike walked briskly to the dining table and took his seat.
Tolu took her time. She finished setting up the table before she sat down. Mike waited patiently.
He already knew what happened, of course. But he needed to hear it from her first.
"Okay so, you know I was going to go and see Curtis directly, right? Turns out he isn’t around. His secretary said he went on a business trip or something like that. I was kind of disappointed, but as I walked back outside, luck decided to shine on me. Guess who I saw?" she asked excitedly.
Mike ignored her. His expression remained sullen, and she narrowed her eyes at him.
"Why are you so grumpy, Mike?" she asked, putting a pause button on her story.
"Go on with your story, Tolu," he quipped.
Tolu went silent for a moment. Something was up with her husband, that she was sure of. And whatever it was seemed to be related to her going to the office yesterday.
A part of her wanted to insist on knowing why he was suddenly questioning her, but she was in a good mood, and she wasn’t willing to let him spoil her countenance.
So she shrugged and went on.
"I saw that bitch, Lara. She looked so weird and I was like, why not ask her to deliver my message to her husband. So I told her to tell Curtis to give me my job back, else I was going to sue him for sexual harassment in the workplace."
Mike’s hands curled into fists.
She had said those words so casually, so blatantly. Even though she knew it was a lie.
"Why?" he asked.
She raised her eyes to meet him, surprise flickering in them.
"What do you mean, why? I told you. I cannot sit back and let him bully me," she deadpanned.
Mike’s jaw tightened.
"If anyone is to be arrested for sexual harassment in the work place, you do realise that it should be you, right?" he said.
Tolu’s expression instantly morphed into anger.
"What the hell are you talking about?!"
He shrugged.
"You asked him to sleep with you despite knowing he is married. And that he is your boss at work. He could use that against you," Mike stated.
Lara snarled at him.
"I told you that was a joke!"
Mike stood up.
"You know what? Fine. I don’t give a shit anymore. I only have one thing to say to you."
Tolu stood up too, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Let’s get divorced."
