Abyss System The Rise of the Lord-Chapter 76 The wasps hatched.
Zaber rose from his rest beneath the tree to catch fish. Though his body felt rested, a lingering fatigue remained deep within. His breathing had slowed, but his heart beat heavier than usual. He glanced around before heading toward the waterfall.
As he reached the waterfall, the cold moisture permeated the air, and the relentless roar of the water filled the surroundings. Zaber’s mana had not fully recovered, so he could not use his mana sense. He clearly felt the emptiness in his body—as if the power inside had not yet returned to its place.
Zaber entered the water. The cold water enveloped his body. He bent down, submerged his head, and opened his eyes. The water was clear, making the fish visible and sharp. Their movements were light, cautious, and harmonious.
Zaber extended his hand forward.
"Let us try moving it with the chain..." he thought inwardly.
He summoned the chain and directed it toward a fish moving two meters away. The chain moved silently through the water, as if becoming part of it. Just as it was about to touch the fish, the fish sensed the danger and suddenly swam away very quickly.
Zaber had anticipated this. He maneuvered the chain to follow from behind.
The chain began pursuing the fish. A strange scene unfolded in the water—a silent chase between a living creature and a spiritual weapon. When the chain lightly touched the fish’s tail, the fish twisted as if losing its rhythm. But the chain did not stop; it followed with flexible and resolute movement.
After several seconds of pursuit, the chain pierced the top of the fish’s torso. The fish shuddered, its movement disrupted, and it could no longer swim.
Zaber raised his head from the water.
"Hooooo..." he breathed deeply.
He approached the fish. The fish had nearly reached the side of the waterfall. Zaber reached it and lifted the fish. He felt the coldness of the body surrendering its life in his hand.
He pulled the chain, and the fish’s soul was drawn out as well.
Zaber held the fish’s soul and bit into it.
Inwardly: "Its soul is more useful than its body," he thought.
He consumed the soul. A cold and strange energy passed down his throat. He tossed the fish’s body itself onto the shore. Water droplets splashed into the air, and the waterfall’s roar seemed to intensify.
At that moment...
In Idal city, the merchants’ guild. The guild master’s room.
In the wide and quiet room, the guild master sat in his chair. He stared out the window in silence. Outside, the city was bustling as usual, but a heavy silence reigned in this room.
A short while later, the door opened. The security employee entered. He walked cautiously and bowed his head slightly.
"With your return, guild master," he said. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The guild master looked at him and spoke in a cold tone.
"I heard there was an attack. The seal was stolen too. As head of security, what can you say?"
The security employee hesitated. He fell silent for a moment.
"This was unexpected," he said finally.
The guild master grew irritated. His voice rose.
"Are you not supposed to be prepared for unexpected situations?! If not, what are you doing in this position?!"
The security employee thought deeply. Then he spoke in a firmer tone.
"Sir, we have stopped many attacks before this. Let this stain not wash away my successes."
The guild master stood. Gripping the desk with both hands, he took a deep breath.
"Stain?" he said with a cold laugh.
"That stain came in broad daylight, killed the secretary, stole the documents and the seal, and simply walked out. You call this not a mistake, but a stain?!"
The security employee replied resolutely.
"Sir, he was very professional. And very powerful at the same time. The secretary was very famous as a hired assassin. In this city, no one surpassed him in speed."
The guild master leaned on the desk.
"Yes, I know..." he said slowly.
"And he was killed with just one strike. Without any sound. Silently. In silence."
He fell silent for a moment.
"Damn it... Should I inform the observer?"
The security employee relaxed slightly.
"The observer was here two days ago. He said he would handle it himself."
The guild master looked at him, then sat back in the chair. He stared out the window. Worry and concern appeared in his eyes.
"This may be bigger than we thought..." he said in a low voice.
"If he said that."
At the waterfall
Zaber caught four or five fish and climbed onto the shore. On the damp soil lay the bodies of the fish—of various lengths and weights. They still twitched slightly, their scales glittering in the water droplets striking from the waterfall.
Zaber stood silently looking at the fish for a moment.
"When I eat their souls," he said slowly, "I no longer need to eat."
He fully emerged onto the shore and straightened his body a bit. His breathing was light. Even his heart no longer beat as heavily as before.
"My body has become much lighter..." he thought inwardly.
"The unexplained pain in my heart that started some time ago is gone for several days now."
These changes surprised him. But he did not delve deeply into it for now.
Zaber’s gaze fell on the slime. He periodically checked its location. If it went far or disappeared—it could be a problem. The slime was still there, quiet and motionless.
Zaber approached the tree.
There was the beehive.
The movements inside the hive were much sharper. Something was stirring inside the eggs. Zaber noticed this and grew curious.
He took the beehive in his hand and carefully examined the eggs.
Suddenly, one egg cracked—an bee leg pierced through.
Zaber watched with great interest.
A short while later, two more eggs began cracking.
The first bee emerged from the egg. Its body was wet, its wings not yet fully opened, still sticky. But its appearance differed from the previous ones.
The bees he had seen before were yellow-reddish. This one was a mix of black and dark orange-reddish. The colors were deeper, more serious.
The bee looked around. Then its gaze fell on Zaber.
Zaber simply observed.
The remaining two bees also emerged from the eggs. They looked at each other. The first one flapped its wings and rose into the air.
"Pzzz... pzzz..."
In the next moment, it landed on Zaber’s hand.
Zaber tried to gently stroke it with his finger.
But the bee unexpectedly stung Zaber’s hand.
Zaber shook his hand hard. As the bee flew toward the hive, Zaber struck it with his hand and knocked it down.
Zaber stood.
"What is this?" he said in surprise.
"The bee stung me, and I did not even show a reaction before... now this is ten times stronger than before."
He looked at his hand.
"But still not fatal."
At that moment, all three bees rose into the air at once.
"Pzzz... pzzz..."
They flew toward Zaber.
Zaber took a step back and ran toward the waterfall. In the next moment, he jumped into the water.
He opened his eyes underwater.
Looking at the bees flying on the water’s surface, he thought angrily inwardly.
"Damn it... I gave you a bit of my mana, and as soon as you hatch from the eggs, you sting me?"
Zaber stayed underwater a bit. Holding his breath was approaching its limit.
He closed his eyes.
"What should I do?" he thought.
"I can kill them with the soul chain... but I need them alive."
"Hmmm..."
Suddenly, an idea came to him.
"They have just been born. They are attacking me instinctively. Because I scared them... what if I show them my intent to kill?"
Zaber raised his head from the water. The wave of water pushed the bees a bit farther. This was a small difference, but for the tiny bees, it was a great distance.
Zaber looked at them.
He directed his killing intent toward them with his entire being.
Unexpectedly, black and red energy burst from Zaber’s entire body. His appearance took on a terrifying aspect. The air around seemed to grow heavier.
The bees’ bodies trembled.
They immediately turned back and fled toward the hive.
Zaber whispered in surprise.
"This... my killing intent is three times stronger than before."
He emerged from the water.
"I was upset when my fake aura disappeared..." he said slowly.
"But this feels much better."
Zaber took one of the fish from the shore and walked toward the beehive.
The bees had hidden inside the hive. Their bodies were still trembling. Because Zaber had not stopped his intent, they did not dare to look outside.
Zaber slowly stopped his intent.
He tossed the fish in front of the beehive and waited.
One hour passed.
Two hours.
Four hours.
Nothing happened.
Zaber stood, about to leave, when—
one bee slowly emerged from the hive.
It rose into the air and landed on the fish’s face. Then it slowly began crawling along the fish’s back
