Abyss System The Rise of the Lord-Chapter 77 soul-sucking
Zaber was staring at a bee crawling over the fish. The roar of the waterfall echoed ceaselessly in the background, and the humid air clung to his skin. The rocks on the shore were wet from the water, with tiny droplets glistening on their surface. The bee climbed onto the fish, paused for a moment, and looked at Zaber. Then, after standing motionless for a brief while, it glanced toward its hive.
In the next instant, two more bees emerged and landed on the fish. They stood close to one another, moving cautiously, their small wings fluttering slowly, while Zaber silently observed it all. There was no wind around—only the relentless noise of the waterfall.
These bees have just been born, he thought.
They do not yet possess their own will. That is why they cannot protect themselves from my killing intent.
After a short time, the bees ate a little from the fish and returned to their hive. The interior of the hive was dark and narrow.
Zaber stood up. He took his sword in hand and began practicing. His feet were firmly planted in the damp soil; every movement was precise, cold-blooded, and without any unnecessary excess force. The sword cleaved through the air, and with each strike, it felt as though the humid air itself trembled. Three days passed in this manner. Throughout the days, the sun rose and set, while the waterfall continued flowing in the same unchanging tone.
Three days later, the remaining three eggs hatched as well. From inside the hive, the trembling movements of new life could be sensed.
The newly emerged bees, upon seeing Zaber standing near the hive, attacked without any hesitation. Their movements were disorganized but merciless.
Zaber met them with a cold gaze. The surrounding air suddenly felt as if it had chilled.
"Fools..."
He directed his killing intent at them.
In an instant, a black-and-red smoke-like energy burst from Zaber’s body. The surrounding plants quivered as if under pressure, and the air itself seemed to grow heavier. The bees trembled, panicked, and immediately retreated.
Zaber stopped his killing intent. That day, he left the fish he had caught in front of the hive and continued his training. The strikes of his sword blended with the noise of the waterfall.
In this way, a week and a half passed.
During this time, the bees gradually grew accustomed to Zaber. They no longer attacked him. Peace settled around the hive, broken only occasionally by the whisper of wings.
Zaber went to the waterfall and washed himself. As the cold water flowed down his body, he thoroughly washed his long black hair as well. Water droplets trickled from his shoulders down to the ground. Since he had washed his clothes three days earlier, he now put on his clean garments.
He dressed fully. The tear on his right shoulder blade had still not healed. Zaber fastened his sword to his belt. Beside him were six money pouches: two of them counted, but he had shown no interest in the others and had not counted them. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
He took everything with him.
He looked once more at the waterfall. The water sparkled as it fell in the sunlight.
"I spent good time in this place... but now I must leave."
He picked up the slime. The moment he tried to take the beehive, all six bees suddenly emerged and rushed to sting Zaber. The buzz of their wings sharpened.
Zaber directed his killing intent at them. The bees retreated in fear once more and hid in the hive.
Now he needed to go to the village in front of Riza Forest and meet Shoyu.
Zaber set off.
The plain began—there were no trees here. Only low grass and open land stretching far into the distance. The sun beat down directly from above, casting short shadows. He walked at this pace for a day and a half.
Zaber continued walking along the road. The plain gradually widened, and a light wind raised faint dust. Though signs of fatigue were visible on his face, he did not stop for even a moment. The rhythm of his steps was steady, but his inner state was not.
His thoughts were tangled.
"My blood... supreme dragon blood. Even though I myself lack dragon powers... perhaps this blood could be a major step in making my servants stronger? Or would it be useless for them too?"
Muttering such thoughts to himself, he continued on his way. The surroundings were silent; even the wind was barely perceptible. Not even birds were visible.
Suddenly, he sensed something.
Someone was approaching.
Zaber’s eyes widened. The muscles in his body tensed in an instant. His foot pressed firmly into the ground. Without hesitation, he spun sharply around.
"Could the merchants’ guild have sent an assassin?... Have I been found?"—the thought flashed through his mind like lightning.
But there was no one there. Only the plain, the grass, and the distant horizon.
Zaber froze.
"I definitely sensed it... someone was there. But where?" he thought to himself.
He carefully scanned the surroundings. The ground, the shadows, the grass swayed by the wind—nothing appeared suspicious.
At that moment, a voice came from below.
"Welcome, master."
Zaber looked down.
A crow was standing on the ground. It had placed one foot on the earth, bowed its head low in a deep reverence. Its gaze was clear. Though its stature was somewhat low, it had approached extremely close to Zaber—so close that he had not noticed it earlier.
Zaber regarded the crow with a cold gaze.
"What are you doing here?" he said in an emotionless voice.
The crow raised its head.
"Master, I was carrying out the task you assigned. Luna and Gobuto are also nearby," it said in a calm tone.
Zaber responded without showing any emotion:
"There was still a week left until the deadline. But let it end here. How many slimes did you capture?"
At that moment, Gobuto stepped forward from the side, stood up, and spoke in a louder voice:
"With pride... six hundred and twenty-eight, master."
Zaber, without hesitation, threw the slime he was holding toward the crow.
"Who gave you permission to stand?" he said in a cold tone.
The crow immediately crouched back into its previous position. It bowed its head again.
"Forgive me, master."
Zaber remained silent for a moment. Only the faint whisper of the wind could be heard around them. His eyes narrowed.
"He was able to get so close to me... I was lost too deep in thought. This is a mistake. I must learn from it."
He turned to the crow again.
"Stand up. Where have you set up? Take me there."
The crow immediately sprang to its feet.
"Yes, master," it said, and began leading the way for Zaber.
Zaber followed behind without saying anything. His steps carried the same determination as before.
The crow led Zaber forward. They walked in silence for several hours. The surroundings gradually changed, with the humidity in the air and the scents of the forest growing stronger. Finally, they reached the entrance area of Riza Forest.
Here, a simple yet solidly built tent had been erected. A fire was lit beside the tent, with a pot hanging over it, from which pleasant aromas wafted. Luna was cooking, but Gobuto was nowhere in sight.
The moment Luna saw Zaber, she immediately stood up, approached quickly, and bowed deeply.
"Welcome, master," she said respectfully.
Zaber passed by her without looking.
"You may stand," he said in a cold tone.
Zaber approached the tent and glanced inside. Here, pots, pans, and various kitchen utensils were arranged neatly. Some were items he had never seen before. The food in the pot was boiling, bubbling slowly.
Inside the tent, there were two beds. Previously, there had been only one.
Zaber paused in thought for a moment.
"These ones are living better than I am... While I was still eating fish and sleeping leaning against trees."
He stepped outside. The crow and Luna stood silently, watching him.
Zaber removed his coat and tossed it into the tent. Then he placed his money pouches from his belt on the ground, stabbed his sword into the earth, and set the beehive beside them.
He turned to the crow.
"Where are the slimes?"
The crow glanced at Luna.
"Master, they are behind the tent... in the pit," Luna said.
Zaber turned and walked in that direction. Luna and the crow followed behind him.
Luna spoke in a soft, cautious tone:
"Master, we did everything we could..."
Zaber did not respond. There was no pause in his steps.
Luna grew anxious inside.
"Is master angry with us?... He didn’t even reply..."
After a short while, they arrived at the enormous pit. The pit was extraordinarily large.
Zaber stared into the pit.
"How did you dig such an enormous pit?"
The crow stepped forward.
"We found this place already like this, master," it said.
Zaber’s face remained expressionless.
"Good. You may leave now."
The crow and Luna exchanged glances; Luna opened her mouth but could not speak, then they said nothing and turned back.
Once they were out of sight, a wide smile appeared on Zaber’s face.
Without hesitation, he jumped into the pit.
He landed on six hundred and twenty-eight slimes.
"The souls of these slimes... are mine," Zaber said.
Drool flowed from his mouth. There were so many souls that chains emerged from Zaber’s body, instantly piercing the bodies of dozens of slimes. Twenty to thirty souls were extracted at once.
Then, before consuming them with the chains, Zaber began grasping the souls directly with his hands and devouring them.
The slimes let out "kyu... kyu..." sounds as they writhed.
The bodies of the soulless slimes melted, lost their solidity, and flowed like water over the other slimes.
In this state, Zaber consumed the souls for three hours.
He was as if swimming in a blue pool. His body was completely covered in slime fluid, and not a single living slime remained in the pit.
Zaber swam out of the liquid slime mass and climbed to the top. Since the pit was not sheer but slightly sloped, he emerged easily.
The massive consumption of souls had completely transformed him.
Zaber stood at the top, spread his arms wide, looked toward the sky, and closed his eyes. His clothes had dissolved from the slime fluid.
He looked inward at himself.
"Approximately seventy percent increase... My body is in absolutely ideal condition. Filled with power."
A dark smile appeared on his face.
"I can control the soul chains even better now..."
"I feel so light, as if I could fly..."
He took a deep breath.
"Hoooohhuuuuuu..."
He opened his eyes and looked down at the blue liquid below.
"So... we move on to the main part," he said in a cold tone.
