Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Grandma’s Inheritance Will Go to Vivian!

Gia Grant immediately followed up with a questioning tone: "Yeah, Vivian, shouldn’t you be in your room resting for the pregnancy?"

"You were just acting weak and collapsed into big brother’s arms as soon as you got back, but now you’re not pretending anymore?"

"Dad, Mom! It must have been Vivian who made Grandma faint."

"And to think Grandma’s always been so good to her, yet she’s done something so absolutely outrageous!"

"Dad, shouldn’t you punish her by the family rules?"

Theodore hesitated for a moment, then, remembering she was pregnant, said, "Vivian, do you have anything you want to explain?"

Mrs. Archer grew anxious at the scene and hurriedly explained, "Sir, Madam, you’ve misunderstood!"

"Old Madam fainting really had nothing to do with the Young Madam."

Lillian Rivers: "Mrs. Archer, after all this, you’re still defending that wretch!"

"There were only a few of you in the backyard at the time. If it wasn’t her, who else could it be?"

"Then why don’t you say what really happened?"

Vivian let out a cold laugh. "Who said there were only a few of us in the backyard at the time?"

Suddenly, the door crashed open with a loud ’bang’.

Austin finally arrived, fashionably late.

"Vivian!"

"Vivian, are you alright?"

"Why aren’t you resting in your room? Did Grandma’s incident frighten you?"

Austin hurried over to her with a look of concern, and pulled her firmly into his arms.

Vivian felt utterly sick at the scent of another woman’s perfume on him.

With a ’bleh,’ she threw up all over Austin.

The expensive suit was covered in filth from top to bottom.

The smell instantly became overwhelming and pungent.

The rest of the Grant family couldn’t help but pinch their noses.

Gia went berserk: "Vivian, are you disgusting or what?! You reek! You’re filthy!"

Austin glowered and stared at the woman in his arms. "You—"

Vivian calmly wiped the corner of her mouth. "Sorry, pregnancy sickness."

The rest of the Grants: It was really hard not to suspect she’d chosen her target on purpose.

But Austin was less angry than expected.

On the contrary, seeing something different in the Vivian in his arms today, his heart actually gave a faint tremor.

Had she noticed something?

Her tone had been so uneasy on the phone last time, and she’d been more obedient than usual today.

Did she do this just to grab his attention?

Did she really care about him that much?

Thinking of this, a trace of sympathy for her flickered through Austin’s heart, too subtle to notice.

He reminded himself that after all, she was carrying his child in her womb.

So he swallowed his disgust and, gentle as ever, tried to comfort Vivian: "It’s alright. You’ve had it so rough. It’s only a couple of dirty clothes, that’s all."

Then he looked up at his parents and explained, "Mom, Dad, I was near the backyard at the time, too."

"I really didn’t hear any arguments."

"I think it must have been just an accident."

Mrs. Archer nodded vigorously, agreeing with this version and acting as witness.

Vivian kept a cold, hard face and didn’t speak further.

Even if she revealed the truth, without catching them in the act, her word alone was nothing.

Theodore didn’t pursue it any further. Ordering everyone not to disturb Old Madam Grant’s peace, he quickly cleared the room.

The party ended in a rush; everyone in the Grant family was exhausted.

As Vivian left, Mrs. Archer pulled her aside and whispered, "Young Madam, Old Madam isn’t siding with Young Master just to get in your way."

"She just learned of what happened herself and was about to lash out when she saw you in the back garden."

"Old Madam truly cares for you."

"To her, you’re the only granddaughter-in-law the Grant family recognizes!"

Vivian nodded, her expression wooden.

"I understand."

"Whatever needs to be discussed, we’ll wait for Grandma to wake up."

With Old Madam still unconscious, they had no choice but to stay at the estate overnight.

Vivian took a simple wash and went to bed early.

By the time Austin returned, she was lying on her side, not making a sound.

"Vivian. Vivian?"

He called her name twice; Vivian didn’t respond at all.

In the end, Austin went to sleep in the next room.

Since their marriage, they only shared a room when back at the old estate.

Tonight, clearly, he was eager to go comfort that startled first love of his, so he didn’t bother keeping up appearances.

Vivian’s heart ached in a dull way, but at the same time she felt a measure of relief.

Him leaving was a blessing—these days, the very thought of sharing a roof with him made her sick, let alone sharing a bed.

As soon as he left, Vivian opened her eyes.

She texted Lina Holloway: "Did you find what you were looking for at the Grant house today?"

Lina replied, "A bit, but not much."

"Young Madam, I did record a rather interesting video. Maybe you’ll want to see it."

After saying that, Lina sent over the video.

Vivian opened it, and instantly sat up in bed.

It was footage of Austin meeting Zoe Monroe in the Rosengarde for a secret tryst!

Lina had run right into them!

Vivian gathered herself: "Let’s meet tomorrow."

The next morning, Vivian woke to the news that Old Madam Grant was awake.

She cleaned up, then walked over to pay her respects at a leisurely pace.

"Granddaughter-in-law, come, sit with Grandma."

Old Madam patted the place beside her. Gia pouted, but had no choice but to move aside.

"Grandma."

Vivian took Old Madam Grant’s hand, her nose stinging with emotion.

She’d never known Old Madam’s diagnosis was terminal; she’d thought it was just old-age ailments that kept her in the care home so long.

Only last night did she learn the truth, and she’d even felt some guilt inside.

Old Madam had helped her before.

She’d also stood up for her in the Grant family, more than once.

And it was partly her own fault that Old Madam passed out the previous night.

If only she hadn’t been so stubborn...

"Silly child."

"Last night, when I heard you’d come home, I was so happy I sent Jasmine to bring you down to take a walk with me."

"It was only because of these unfilial children and grandchildren upsetting me that I lost my temper. What’s it got to do with you?"

"You were wronged by them, my good child. Grandma knows everything."

"I just finished scolding all of them for you—not one was spared!"

Lillian looked grumpy as a thundercloud; Gia puffed up like a pufferfish.

Theodore’s face flushed red. "Mom, we were only worried last night, that’s why we pressed Vivian so hard."

"It wasn’t anything terribly serious."

Old Madam Grant’s voice shot up: "Not serious?! What, would you rather see them send me to my grave in three minutes flat? Would that make you happy?"

As she spoke, the monitors attached to Old Madam’s hand spiked dramatically, beeping wildly as if dancing on the graph.

Everyone’s face turned white with fear.

Old Madam kept shouting: "She’s carrying the Grant family’s bloodline, isn’t she!"

"How could you bear to wrongly accuse her and put her on the spot like that?"

Vivian quickly pressed on the old lady’s chest, trying to soothe her. "Grandma, calm down."

Theodore almost dropped to his knees.

"Mom, please, I beg you, don’t torture your son anymore."

"I really know I was wrong now."

"From now on, I’ll treasure Vivian properly, and this will never happen again."

"Mom, please..."

Under Theodore’s pleading, the monitor finally steadied to a normal rhythm.

Only then did Old Madam Grant clear everyone out, leaving Vivian alone.

"Vivian, I know it was Austin who did wrong! Tell Grandma, what are you really thinking?"

Vivian: "Grandma, please don’t interfere in this, alright?"

Old Madam Grant: "If I don’t, am I supposed to just watch the family fall apart?"

"You’re Grandma’s favorite granddaughter-in-law. I won’t allow anyone to drive you out of this house!"

Vivian sighed heavily.

She knew this would hurt Old Madam, but still, she forced herself to say it: "Grandma, I want to divorce Austin."

Thank goodness Old Madam had taken her heart medicine, or she’d probably have passed out again right there.

The old lady’s feelings churned violently.

Her hand holding Vivian’s was trembling.

"There’s really no going back?"

"Last night... maybe it was just a misunderstanding..."

Not wanting to get Lina involved, Vivian simply let Old Madam Grant listen to the previous recording.

After hearing Austin’s two-faced words—one persona for public, another for private—Old Madam Grant had no choice but to believe.

"Is it that Zoe Monroe girl? The one who used to have Austin so bewitched he barely ate, barely slept, nearly lost his mind over her?"

"I met her once in private. Honestly, she’s a total airhead—she couldn’t hold a candle to you!"

"Is Austin blind? How can he not tell right from wrong?"

"He’s married now, yet still can’t break things off with that woman!"

"That wretch! He’s the one who’s wronged you..."

Old Madam’s eyes filled with tears; she truly couldn’t bear to lose Vivian.

Because in the whole Grant family, only Old Madam knew just how remarkable Vivian really was!

But because of certain things, she’d been forced to hide all of Vivian’s brilliance.

"One day, Austin will regret this."

"He’ll regret losing a wife as good as you."

"Vivian, can you really not give him another chance?"

Vivian shook her head. "Grandma, I’m sorry."

"There’s no going back for Austin and me."

The old lady clutched her aching chest.

"Then, can you promise Grandma you’ll wait until after I’m gone before bringing up divorce?"

Vivian looked at her, torn and aching. "Grandma, you’ll live to a ripe old age!"

Old Madam gave her a bitter smile. "I know my body. At most, I’ve got six months. Maybe just three."

"Vivian, please just grant me this one dying wish, won’t you?"

"I’ll leave a third of my inheritance to you."

"It’ll give you and your child some security. What do you think?"

Tears streamed from Vivian’s eyes.

"Grandma, I don’t want anything. I just want you to live."

When she saw how upset Vivian truly was, Old Madam was deeply moved.

"Good child. Then, Grandma will take that as a yes."

"Mrs. Archer, quickly bring the contract. We’ll have her sign it now, go!"

Vivian: ...

So much for those tears—it was all for nothing.

With Old Madam nearly begging outright, Vivian could only agree for the moment.

Otherwise, she feared the old lady wouldn’t even last the three months.

To appease her, Vivian had barely signed her name when Austin knocked and entered the room.

He was all smiles. "I just heard you were signing some kind of contract—what’s that about?"
