After Divorcing the Tycoon, I Married into a Wealthy Family Again-Chapter 56: He’s Back
Chapter 56: Chapter 56: He’s Back
The divorce was harder than Florence Fuller had anticipated. Samuel Morrison had found her a good divorce lawyer, and Florence had already begun the negotiations. She wasn’t planning to endlessly hound Luke Gardiner on his side; she could approach Old Mr. Gardiner.
Old Mr. Gardiner had always been kind to her. When she got married and requested that shares of the Fuller Clan be included in her dowry, it was Old Mr. Gardiner who arranged it. Choosing to seek help from him in the divorce was not an easy path either.
"What are you thinking about?" Chloe Quinn knocked on Florence Fuller’s office door. "If we don’t leave now, we’ll be late."
Florence Fuller came back to her senses, picked up her things, and said, "Let’s go."
The Maple Heart Charity Gala, held annually, was scheduled for tonight. The foundation’s founder was Mrs. Renfield of the SJ City Renfield Family, Edward Renfield’s mother. Known for her demanding standards, Mrs. Renfield personally selected all items for the charity auction and hosted the event herself, highlighting the gala’s significance.
Many people would do anything to get an invitation and attend.
Florence Fuller originally didn’t want to attend and had given NQ’s invitation to Chloe Quinn. However, as Grace Linney from the Gardiner Family was unavailable, Florence had to attend.
Once inside, Florence sat absent-mindedly while Chloe Quinn observed the large venue and the people coming and going, each with significant status, and was quietly amazed.
"It’s no wonder this is the largest auction in SJ City," Chloe sighed. "People you don’t usually see are all here."
Florence didn’t say anything. She turned her head when she heard some commotion and saw Luke Gardiner sitting down beside her with a woman in his arms.
Chloe Quinn was reminded of the previous auction scene; back then, Luke had been at the front.
Luke glanced at her, then smiled roguishly, "This area is big enough. I hope you don’t mind me bringing someone extra, wife."
The seats in the venue were allocated, with the best-view seats at the center arranged in a semi-circular soft couch setting, complete with drinks in front.
Florence didn’t look up, "Do as you please."
Luke chuckled and pinched the waist of the beauty in his arms, "Would you like to say hello to my wife?"
Chloe Quinn leaned closer to Florence, whispered, "Why don’t you come sit in my area instead?"
"No need," she replied, "I’ll leave after sitting for a bit."
Chloe nodded, "I’ll head over first then."
Florence nodded.
"Mrs. Gardiner," the unfamiliar woman’s voice came, "Hello, I’m Young Master Gardiner’s girlfriend."
Florence glanced at her, "Girlfriend? That’s nice."
Seeing her lack of emotional response and apparent indifference towards the woman, Luke clenched his teeth, feeling slightly irritated.
As more people intermittently took their seats, the auction began to unfold, with Mrs. Renfield elegantly dressed, stepping onto the stage to introduce the auction rules.
Florence’s phone screen lit up. She opened it to see it was a document from her divorce lawyer.
The document was a newly drafted divorce agreement.
There were some annotated changes.
She moved aside and began reading it.
Luke watched her actions closely, gritting his teeth, barely paying attention to the items on stage.
"All these items are so beautiful." The woman beside Luke leaned against him, eyes filled with admiration.
"Do you like them?" Luke looked at the beauty, his peripheral vision still on Florence, "Do you want them?"
"Could you get them for me?"
"Of course."
Florence skimmed through the document, feeling warm, and took off her jacket, placing it beside her. Luke, while pretending to focus on the auction, was actually keeping an eye on her movements.
Seeing her remove her jacket, he turned his head to glance.
The red velvet long dress had a low-cut back with delicate diamond chains crisscrossing, and as she laid her jacket down, the chains rested gracefully against her smooth, pale back. Luke averted his gaze, his Adam’s apple moving slightly.
As the first half of the charity event concluded, a banquet in the side hall was prepared for guests to rest. Chloe Quinn, having had enough, called Florence to the side hall.
"Didn’t you want to bid on anything?" Chloe handed her a drink, "I saw President Gardiner bid on two items for the woman he brought?"
Florence nodded.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk." Chloe shook her head, "But he really has no sense of occasion, bringing another woman right in front of you. What would people say about you?"
"That’s exactly what I want them to say," Florence downed the drink in her glass, "It makes the divorce easier."
Chloe raised an eyebrow.
"I invited two media outlets." Florence said, "I hope he doesn’t disappoint me."
Chloe chuckled, "Are you perhaps planning to use public opinion and rumors to..."
Florence nodded.
As the time for Chloe’s desired auction item approached, Florence didn’t plan to stay much longer.
Chloe returned to the charity gala while Florence planned to leave early.
Walking through the hotel corridor, Florence headed downstairs, only to realize she’d forgotten her coat and taken the wrong path, ending up at the hotel’s rear garden lawn. She looked around and couldn’t find the way to the lobby, deciding to retrace her steps, but as she turned, a shiver ran through her. freewebnøvel.coɱ
She widened her eyes in disbelief, her breath trembling.
The man, dressed in a perfectly tailored black pinstriped suit, carried a tall, imposing figure. Draped over his arm was a black coat, his stance both relaxed and aristocratic.
He walked slowly towards Florence.
His features were the same cold and enchanting from memory, sharp yet gentle. With distinct bone structure, his deep, affectionate peach blossom eyes and high nose bridge were unforgettable.
Just like the first time she met him.
It was so sudden, the person she thought about day and night appeared before her eyes.
As he approached, Florence unconsciously took a step back, her eyes burning, brows lowering.
Ethan Harper stopped, his gaze intensely locked onto her, "Don’t retreat, Florence."
His voice was filled with deep yearning.
Hearing his voice, Florence’s body stiffened, then she suddenly fell forward.
She landed in a gentle embrace, the familiar scent giving her an unreal sensation. Clinging to his collar, she called out with difficulty, "Ethan... Ethan Harper."
"I’m here." Ethan Harper held her tightly, "I’ve come."
Florence stared at his face, gradually reaching out her hands to cup it, her fingers tracing every inch with infinite detail.
Tears silently fell as she sobbed, "You big liar!"
Ethan Harper held her close, his heart aching, "I’m sorry."
"I hate you!" she punched his chest with each word, "You... mmm..."
Ethan Harper embraced her tightly, the yearning of three years poured into an endless kiss, seeking Florence.
Lips interlocked, tangled without end.
Just like they used to be.
