After Divorcing the Tycoon, I Married into a Wealthy Family Again-Chapter 71: Our 2 Families Separate
Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Our 2 Families Separate
"Back then when you married to get shares from the Fuller Clan, wasn’t the seven percent in your grandfather’s hands enough?" Michael Fuller said.
"Of course, it wasn’t enough," Florence Fuller replied. "You promised that everything from the Fuller Family would be mine when you passed, but now, what about that illegitimate son of yours?"
"Watch your mouth," an unfamiliar voice interrupted from the doorway. James Fuller pushed the door open and walked in, looking at Florence with a dark gaze.
Florence sneered and looked at Michael, "So, tell me, what does he count as?"
"I’ve worked hard and diligently in the company over the years, Miss Fuller, unlike you, living in a nest of gold and silver," James said.
"Hahaha," Florence laughed mockingly. "Sorry, what did you say, worked hard and diligently?"
James gritted his back teeth and glared at her coldly.
"From early on, he’s been secretly supporting your mother and you two; your life has been smooth sailing. You came back from abroad, and the old man arranged for you to join the company. Aren’t you just following the path he laid out for you?"
"Florence!" Michael took a deep breath. "What you’re saying now is pointless; he is your brother, you...!"
"You may not care about your reputation, but I do," Florence interrupted. "Brother? My mom’s belly didn’t give birth to a second one, did it? If this talk spreads to SJ, I can’t afford to lose face."
"Miss Fuller!" James looked at her. "Haven’t you had enough of the gossip in SJ, so you came to Cloudsea to avoid it?"
Florence’s eyes darkened, "What did you say?"
"Your wedding back then, the groom left halfway and soon flew abroad with another woman, must not feel good to finish a wedding alone, and after marriage, that Young Master Gardiner didn’t care about you at all, fooling around outside like he forgot he even has a wife." James stared at Florence intently, hoping his words would crack her proud expression.
Florence’s face clouded over, "That’s still better than you, an illegitimate child who can’t even make it to the stage."
In prestigious families, illegitimate children were numerous and greatly despised.
Michael, burning with anger, raised his hand, "Don’t think just because of the Gardiner Family I don’t dare to do anything to you."
A knock on the door interrupted.
"Chairman, the front desk says someone is here,"
James asked, "Who?"
Secretary Lane glanced at Florence, "President Gardiner from the Gardiner Group, says he’s here to see the lady."
Luke Gardiner.
Michael’s face shifted, immediately lowering his hand, "Quick, invite him up."
"Hit me!" Florence mocked, seeing his changing expressions. "Didn’t you say you weren’t afraid to do something to me just because of the Gardiner Family? Come on, hit me."
Michael glared at her, "Since you returned to the Fuller Family, you’ve been unmanageable."
Florence replied, "But you have no time to teach—your mind’s all on your son, right? He stabs my heart and you don’t care, I say he’s unpresentable and you want to hit me, old man, your bias is too obvious." fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Florence looked at him with evident disgust.
Michael’s chest heaved with fury, yet he dared not make a move.
Though unsure of Florence’s status in the Gardiner Family, Old Mr. Gardiner was quite satisfied with her initially, and if she wanted to do anything, the Gardiner Family was supportive.
Luke Gardiner was being led in, immediately catching the sight of an upset Florence, her father in the office, and someone he didn’t recognize.
"President Gardiner has arrived," Michael, unfamiliar with Luke, had only met him once at the wedding.
Luke considered, "A bit late for a visit, Dad."
Michael was silent.
Florence snorted.
Luke’s gaze was complicated as he first looked at Florence, then at Michael, "What’s going on here?"
Michael began, "Um...since Florence returned to Cloudsea, we..."
Florence interrupted, "Talking about the illegitimate child’s issue again."
James glared at Florence with venomous eyes, seething in anger internally.
Instinctively, Luke looked at James, standing next to Michael.
"See, neither of them looks happy," Florence sneered coldly.
Michael composed himself, "Florence, you can’t speak loosely about matters like this."
"Well, she didn’t run all the way here from SJ for nothing," Luke raised an eyebrow, looking at Michael with a slight accusatory stance, "After all, she’s our Gardiner Family’s daughter-in-law; hope you haven’t been making things difficult for her, Father-in-law."
"No!" Michael was indeed glad he hadn’t landed that slap just now.
"Good," Luke let out a breath of relief, "If you did make things difficult, it’d be hard to explain to Old Mr. Gardiner when I get back."
His words indirectly raised Florence’s status in the Gardiner Family, leaving Florence pondering Luke’s intentions: "What are you here for?"
"Looking for you, unless I’m here for your dad." Luke turned to her.
Michael observed, "You two...seem quite close."
Luke was about to respond when Florence interrupted in a cold voice, "Close? Married and he flies abroad cuddled up with another woman, leaving me to clean up the mess, and you call that close?"
Luke’s face stiffened, "Why bring that up now?"
"Why?" Florence glanced at James before turning to Luke, "You’ve done this messed up thing for years, yet it’s still being brought up to shame me, everyone treats me like a joke."
Luke’s face darkened, and Florence bypassed him, leaving the place.
Michael opened his mouth, and Luke, after a brief moment of surprise, looked at James with narrowed, menacing eyes, "Did you say it?"
James instinctively glanced at his father. Michael shook his head, and James said, "President Gardiner, no..."
"What’s your name?" Luke asked.
"James Fuller."
Luke walked over; his rebellious, unruly aura creating a sense of foreboding, lifted his hand, and landed a punch.
Shaking his hand, he looked at Michael, "Father-in-law, to be honest, I’ve been trying to win over this girl, hoping she’d give me a chance. If we’re together, wouldn’t it benefit both families? Yet look at this situation, do you wish for us to separate?"
"No, no, no!" Michael shook his head repeatedly, "That’s not what I mean."
Having secured the towering tree that was the Gardiner Family, only a fool would wish for them to divorce.
Luke gave a warning glance at James and left to pursue Florence.
Christopher Fuller’s office.
Florence had arrived, and Christopher looked her over, "Did you get the short end of it?"
"No," Florence walked to the couch and sat down, "He initially wanted to hit me, but then Luke quickly arrived."
"He came?" Christopher, surprised, asked, "To find you."
Florence shook her head, "Not sure."
"No matter what, your father now has to consider the Gardiner Family’s reputation. Old Mr. Gardiner values you highly; that’s why he chose the Fuller Family," Christopher said.
