After Divorcing the Tycoon, I Married into a Wealthy Family Again-Chapter 72: Either Fighting or Fighting
Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Either Fighting or Fighting
Florence Fuller leaned back on the sofa without answering his question and asked, "How did you deal with Sophia Johnson?"
"I fired her, and then she reported to the police, so it’s in their hands now." Christopher Fuller poured her a glass of water, "When you were making those remarks in the operations department today, you didn’t see the furious look on their father and son’s faces."
"Do I need to see it?" Florence could already imagine it, "I bet the news will spread through the company."
Saying this, both Michael Fuller and James Fuller wouldn’t be able to cover it up, and if they did, it would probably mean Florence was right.
Christopher Fuller said, "There’s no need for it to spread. People in the company have always been suspicious about how smoothly he rose to power; you just confirmed it."
"What’s next then?" Florence looked at him, "What are you planning to do?"
Christopher shook his head, "For now, we’ll take it step by step. Your father still has a firm grip on power, so completely turning the tables will be challenging for me."
"Though I’m not interested in the Fuller Clan, I simply don’t want James Fuller reaping the benefits from nothing." Florence looked at him seriously, "Our relationship isn’t particularly good either. If I help you, and you succeed but then push me out, what should I do?"
Christopher laughed, "You think I would do that?"
Florence looked at him but said nothing.
Christopher continued, "Our relationship started from a deal, didn’t it? When you sold your shares to me, wasn’t that in some sense a sign of trust?"
Florence seemed unconvinced, "You said it yourself, it was a transaction."
"But from that time, I felt we were on the same side." Christopher looked at her, "Or did you already know I had designs on the Fuller Clan back then?"
Upon hearing this, Florence merely smiled, "Don’t think of me as so clever. I just needed the money back then, and you happened to be the most suitable candidate."
Back then, she did set a very high price, and Christopher couldn’t come up with the money right away, so he asked her for a few more days to gather it. But Florence only gave him three days, and within that time, he managed to raise the vast sum.
Florence sold the shares to him.
She was prepared for Christopher to tell the Fuller family, but instead, he kept it a secret, and to this day, Michael Fuller still thinks those shares are in her hands.
She thought to herself, Christopher Fuller is quite interesting; both of them harbored unspoken understanding.
Christopher nodded, "So what kind of assurance do you want from me?"
Florence thought for a moment and shook her head.
Seeing she couldn’t come up with anything, Christopher pondered, "Should I transfer some of my shares to you when the time comes?"
"Let’s see. It’s too early to say for now, but I won’t be helping you too much," Florence said. "The things I plan on doing later, of course, are for myself. But if you genuinely have the capability to take down the Fuller Clan and the father-son duo, I’ll definitely be on your side."
Christopher looked at her teasingly, "Is that what you meant by not being clever?"
It seemed she was helping him, but in fact, she wouldn’t help that much, always ready to distance herself.
Florence neither agreed nor disagreed.
The office door was knocked twice; the door opened, and Luke Gardiner leaned against the door frame, his gaze falling on Florence, saying casually, "Having a chat, darling?"
Christopher looked at the two of them, "Should I give you two the room?"
"No need." Florence stood up and walked out, "You go ahead with your work."
Luke Gardner and Christopher exchanged a glance, silent.
Watching Luke walk away with Florence, Christopher couldn’t help but think of Ethan Harper.
This cousin of his, truly a heartbreaker.
Luke Gardiner followed Florence into the elevator, standing side by side, "Where to?"
Florence hadn’t answered yet when her phone rang.
It was Michael Fuller calling.
"You and President Gardiner have both come to Cloudsea. Let’s have dinner together tonight. I’ve booked a table at the hotel. Go pick up your mom."
"Sure," Florence replied calmly, "It’s rare for Luke to be here, and now you, old man, finally have time to join us for a meal."
Michael probably rolled his eyes at her over the phone. Without waiting for a reply, Florence hung up.
"Dinner?" Luke Gardiner overhead, "With your parents?"
Florence mocked, "You say it so smoothly."
With her jab, Luke wanted to retort but chose not to argue, "Where are we going then?"
"To pick up mom," Florence replied.
The elevator arrived at the underground parking lot.
Luke stuck close to her, "You really can’t stand the sight of me, huh? I just defended you in front of your dad."
"Defended me?" Florence stopped and faced him, "What did you defend?"
"Denying it, huh." Luke Gardiner looked at her, "Your dad doesn’t dare touch you because of the Gardiner Family, right?"
Florence replied, "That’s the Gardiner Family, not you!"
"Aren’t I part of the Gardiner Family?"
"Hah!" Florence scoffed, "What are you to the Gardiner Family, a disgrace?"
"Florence." Luke Gardiner, not the most patient person, found himself increasingly tolerant with Florence, but her words infuriated him, "Is this how you scold your husband? I’m a disgrace! Then you’re a disgrace’s wife."
"Tch!" Florence rolled her eyes and turned to open the car door.
Luke Gardiner grabbed her hand from behind, "I came all the way from SJ City not to get insulted by you."
"Then you’re just bored."
"I’m bored..." Luke Gardiner pulled her toward him, glaring fiercely, "You should be thankful I haven’t dragged out that boy toy of yours!"
"So you’re just bored," Florence wrested her hand away, but Luke’s grip was tight, his eyes starting to redden as he stared at her.
"You’ve been gallivanting around with scandals all over the place, and I haven’t confronted you, have I?" Florence said, "I’ve told you explicitly before, don’t meddle with me, and I won’t interfere with you. You even said we’d each go our own way, so what’s your deal now, huh?"
Luke Gardiner clenched his teeth, "You keep a boy toy, what about my face!"
"What about my face!" Florence shouted, forcefully shaking off his hand, "What about my face! Look at what you’ve done these past two years. It’s your fault, but I’m the one criticized by others. And you talk to me about face; do you deserve it?"
Luke looked at her, seemingly deflated, his reddened eyes flickering with uncertainty, his face unusually grim.
"And another thing!" Florence stared at him, "He’s not a boy toy."
With that, she stomped off towards the parking spot in her high heels.
After getting in the car, she exhaled, glancing at her reflection in the mirror, her face still hinting at residual anger.
She calmed down a bit, but the thought of Luke Gardiner still vexed her.
She truly wondered if she owed him something in a past life to end up with him in this one; they could never see eye to eye—not without arguing.
