After Giving Birth, All My Beast Ex-Husbands Suddenly Want Me Back-Chapter 34: Uncovered
"Nina, I’m sorry. I misunderstood you earlier. I apologize."
The one who spoke was the female whose beast husband had broken his leg.
"I apologize too. I shouldn’t have said those things about you. You’re not an inauspicious beastfolk."
"Me too. I’m sorry."
...
Many beastfolk came forward one after another to apologize to Nina.
"It’s fine. You were misled as well," Nina said calmly. Since they were offering sincere apologies, she had no intention of holding grudges.
"Nina, hello. I’m Aji’s mother," Miye squeezed her way over. "I’m sorry—Aji troubled you so much before."
Nina looked at Miye. She was slightly tall, with a square face and a more mature air about her. Her complexion was good, and she looked to be not quite thirty—nothing like someone who already had a grown child like Aji.
Beastfolk lived long lives. Living several hundred years was common, and beast crystals could further extend lifespan, so it was often impossible to judge age by appearance. Some looked very young yet were already centuries old.
"Hello," Nina replied politely, especially after learning she was Aji’s mother. "It’s nothing. Aji helped me a lot."
"My child just has a kind heart," Miye said with a smile. Then her gaze flicked to Nina’s temple, and she suddenly exclaimed, "Oh—there seems to be a little bug in your hair."
Nina turned pale in fright. "Really? Where?!"
She was quite afraid of insects.
Mino lowered his head and examined her hair carefully.
The other beastfolk also leaned in to look.
"I don’t see anything."
"Me neither."
...
Nina grew even more frightened. Had it crawled into her hair?
Because Miye was Aji’s mother, Nina didn’t doubt her words at all.
"Mino, please help me get it out," Nina said, her voice trembling slightly.
"Don’t be afraid, Nina. I’ll find it," Mino reassured her.
Miye stepped forward at once. "I think I see it again. Don’t move—I’ll catch it for you."
Nina immediately froze. "Okay, please get it off."
Miye reached toward Nina’s temple. Then, taking advantage of her inattention, she yanked off Nina’s face veil.
In an instant, a delicate, peach-blossom-like face was revealed.
A sharp intake of breath rippled through the crowd.
She was so beautiful.
Was this the "abnormality" Dora had spoken of?
Indeed—it was abnormally beautiful.
The females looked on with admiration and envy, while many of the males stared in a daze, some of them blushing outright.
Nina felt the sudden lightness on her face and realized she had been tricked. There had never been any bug—Miye just wanted to remove her veil.
She was annoyed, but it wasn’t appropriate to lose her temper.
"You—"
Miye had expected to see a face covered in ugly black blotches. Instead, she was confronted with flawless, snow-white skin and beauty beyond reproach. She was so shocked that she completely forgot the words Dora had instructed her to say next—words she probably couldn’t bring herself to say now anyway.
"Wow, Nina, you’re so beautiful!"
"Who on earth said you were ugly? Are they blind?"
"Exactly. Someone must’ve been jealous of you and deliberately smeared you," one female said disdainfully, shooting a look at Dora.
"That must be why she got blown up—definitely the Beast God’s punishment," another female added scornfully. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Dora stared at Nina’s face in disbelief.
How was this possible?
Wasn’t she supposed to be an ugly freak?
Dora lowered her head, her expression dark.
Mino shot Miye a sharp look, and she quickly retreated back into the crowd.
Aji grabbed Miye, slightly annoyed. "Mother, what were you doing?!"
"I just wanted to see what she really looked like," Miye muttered defensively.
The females gathered around Nina.
"Your skin is amazing—how do you take care of it?"
One female reached out to touch Nina’s face, but Mino stopped her at once. "Don’t touch her."
The female withdrew her hand awkwardly. "I didn’t mean any harm. I just couldn’t help myself."
Nina was a little overwhelmed by their enthusiasm.
Chief Tali was equally shocked. "Nina, your face... how did it—"
How did it suddenly become so beautiful?
"I was poisoned before," Nina explained. "That’s why I looked like that. As the poison gradually wore off, my face recovered."
"So that’s how it is." A faint gleam flashed through Chief Tali’s eyes. "You’re a pregnant female. You’ve been here quite a while—you must be tired. I’ll have some males escort you back to rest."
"I am a bit tired," Nina admitted. "Then Mino and I will head back first."
Chief Tali nodded, and the beastfolk made way.
Mino escorted Nina back to the stone house, followed by quite a few males.
When they arrived, Nina turned around to thank them—and was startled.
Why were there so many?!
"Thank you for escorting us back," Nina said politely. "If there’s nothing else, you can return now."
"It’s no trouble. Protecting a female is what males should do," said a tall, powerfully built male with cropped hair. "I’m free right now. Do you need any help?"
"Yes, me too."
"I’m also free."
A group of males, faces flushed, showed no real intention of leaving.
Mino’s expression darkened. Sal ground his teeth.
"Thank you for your kindness," Nina said firmly but politely. "I don’t need help right now. You can go back."
"Well... all right."
"Get some good rest."
...
The males finally left, reluctant but obedient.
Once inside, Nina let out a long breath of relief and collapsed onto the bed, scrunching her face.
"Mino, I’m starving."
Hearing that, Mino smacked his own forehead. "I should’ve brought you back earlier. You haven’t eaten for so long—you must be famished. I’ll cook right now. What do you want to eat?"
"Stir-fried meat, and slow-braised gugubird," Nina said.
"Okay. Have some fruit first to tide you over—I’ll be quick." Mino hurried out to cook.
Sal bustled around the room anxiously, searching for food. Spotting fruit on the table, he quickly grabbed some and carried them over to Nina.
Nina patted the little "cat’s" head. "Thank you, Little Flower."
Sal nudged the fruit plate forward and let out two soft "meows," clearly meaning: Hurry and eat. Don’t let yourself go hungry.
Nina smiled and began eating the fruit.
Mino soon returned with the food. "Nina, it’s ready. Time to eat."
Nina sat down at the table with the little "cat" in her arms, accepted the bowl Mino handed her, picked up a piece of meat, and ate with relish.
Mino rested his chin on one hand, his eyes shining as he watched her. "Nina, you were amazing today. You saw through Dora’s scheme right away and exposed them."
Sal looked at Nina with the same admiration in his eyes.
Nina was pleased by the praise. "It wasn’t that impressive—I just happened to guess right."
After all, she hadn’t watched all those dramas for nothing.
"That’s still because you’re smart," Mino said, stars practically sparkling in his gaze.
"All right, stop staring and eat," Nina laughed.
"Mm."
It was another warm, cozy dinner.
Afterward, Sal ran into Mino’s room, dragged out his little nest, and placed it inside Nina’s room.
Nina laughed. "You don’t want to sleep with Mino anymore? Haven’t you been sleeping just fine these past few days?"
Sal nodded—then shook his head vigorously. Not fine at all. It’s smelly and cold. I want to sleep with you.
He shook his front paws, moved his back legs, and even hopped a few times, clearly showing her that his external injuries were almost completely healed.
Nina beckoned. "Come here. Let me take a look."
Sal dashed over. Nina untied the strips of beast hide around him and found that the wounds were indeed healed—only faint red marks remained where the larger injuries had been.
"You healed so fast. That medicine really works wonders," Nina said in amazement. Then she looked at the little "cat" with ill intent. "Since you’re all healed, your owner will give you a nice, thorough bath tonight."
The moment those words left her mouth, Sal’s face burned bright red.
