After Having a Dream, I Became Pregnant with a Billionaire's Child-Chapter 113 - 110: The Thief
Chapter 113: Chapter 110: The Thief
The Parker Family finished their meal and then parted ways with Emily and the others.
With many members, the Parker Family took two cars this time.
Sophie drove one, and Adam Willow drove another, showing off his driving skills.
While heading to fetch the cars, Adam Willow was somewhat preoccupied.
He had decided to get engaged to Sophie on his own, but for some reason, he regretted it the moment he announced it.
He admitted to himself that he declared their engagement because he wanted to see how Emily would react.
However, Emily’s reaction was as if she had heard something trivial, which made Adam Willow very uncomfortable.
"Hey, brother, I’m not trying to nag you.
But you really need to keep an eye on that Emily girl; I fear she’s taking after her mother. Don’t let her mess things up and end up getting pregnant before marrying into a wealthy family."
Aunt Parker continued to chatter incessantly from behind.
She had initially wanted to suck up to Emily, but her flattery had backfired, as Emily ignored her entirely.
Aunt Parker grew angrier the more she thought about how Emily hadn’t even offered to help her when she fell.
"Don’t talk nonsense.
I don’t think things between Emily and Carlos have even started."
Father Parker shook his head.
"That’s not necessarily true. Emily is studying medicine, isn’t she? I’ve heard that medical students are the most promiscuous."
Aunt Parker blurted out, not filtering her words. She finished her sentence and then remembered that Sophie’s fiancé, Adam Willow, was also studying medicine.
She quickly glanced at Adam Willow, who, as expected, was frowning and staring at her.
Aunt Parker hurriedly put on a smile and said,
"Doctor Willow, I wasn’t talking about you.
I was talking about Emily."
While Aunt Parker spoke, they all heard the sound of police sirens.
A police car drove into the parking lot, and several officers got out.
Aunt Parker, who had been speaking so animatedly just moments ago, froze when the officers approached her.
Father Parker and Adam Willow, among others, were also completely baffled and unaware of what was happening.
One of the policewomen stepped forward,
"It’s her."
The policewoman walked up to Aunt Parker and produced an arrest warrant.
"What, what are you trying to do?"
Aunt Parker’s face and body trembled uncontrollably with fear.
She seemed to think of something and felt guilty, attempting to run away.
But as soon as she moved, the policewoman used a takedown technique on her, pinning her face to the ground.
"Auntie!"
"Officer, what is all this about?"
Sophie was terrified, her face drained of color. Mrs. Parker was shaking with fear, and Grandma Parker collapsed to the ground out of fright.
Father Parker, comparatively calm, stepped forward to inquire,
"Officer, may I ask what has happened?"
"We just received a report.
Someone’s pen was stolen."
The policewoman searched Aunt Parker and quickly found a shiny gold pen in her pocket.
"This is my pen,"
Aunt Parker tried to grab the pen back.
"Indeed, my pen was stolen by you."
A Bentley slowly drove over.
Carlos opened the car door and got out.
Adam Willow looked up and saw Emily sitting in the back seat of the car.
Emily showed no intention of getting out.
Carlos and Emily Parker also saw Aunt Parker being pinned to the ground.
Carlos took the gold pen from the policewoman’s hand.
"This gold pen was a 20th birthday gift from my mother; it disappeared while I was having dinner.
After watching the restaurant’s surveillance, I found out she stole my gold pen."
The angle of the private room’s surveillance was tricky; it only captured Aunt Parker acting guilty and stealing the pen shortly after Carlos lost it, while Emily kicking the pen was obscured by the tablecloth.
Therefore, in the eyes of the police and Carlos’s, Aunt Parker was the thief who stole Carlos’s pen.
Father Parker’s face darkened with anger.
He had known about his sister’s sticky fingers, given that Aunt Parker was once sent home by her employer. But he didn’t expect her to dare steal from Carlos.
As a government official, having his sister caught stealing was a disgraceful affair that he felt dishonored to speak about.
And of all things to steal, she chose a gold pen, which clearly was worth a fortune, possibly millions. The case was of significant dollar value, and with the theft caught in the act, even Father Parker could not find a connection to get her off the hook.
"Henry, go save your sister."
Grandma Parker wailed and clung to her son’s arm, crying to the heavens.
Henry Parker’s face was unpleasant to look at; he glanced at Carlos and attempted a smile,
"Young Master Carter,
could we settle this matter privately?"
Henry Parker pulled a face, hoping to negotiate with Carlos and expecting him to show some consideration.
But Carlos stood there, arms crossed, not giving Father Parker any regard.
If Father Parker had been to Emily what he was to Sophie Parker—a good father,
Carlos would have let this go. But Father Parker and Aunt Parker had been unkind to Emily.
Just for that, Carlos wouldn’t let Aunt Parker off easily.
Sophie Parker and Mrs. Parker also wore faces of worry.
Jasper Willow silently observed for a moment, then suddenly spoke up,
"Officers, there must be some misunderstanding here.
Aunt Parker just came from the countryside not long ago, she knows nothing, she must have simply found the pen and didn’t know who it belonged to, and that’s why she picked it up."
After that, Adam Willow glanced at Emily sitting in the car, who had not gotten out.
"Emily, you were right next to your aunt earlier, you must have seen that your aunt picked up the pen inadvertently, right?"
Hearing Adam’s words, Aunt Parker caught on and quickly stopped crying, nodding vigorously,
"Yes, yes, I just accidentally found the pen, I had no idea it belonged to Young Master Carter.
I planned to give it to the officers shortly.
Emily, you saw it too, right? The pen was just under the table, and I picked it up unintentionally, not with the intention to steal."
Father Parker also breathed a sigh of relief and said to Emily,
"Emily, get out of the car and talk to the officers.
Did you also see your aunt pick up the pen?"
Everyone’s eyes were now on Emily.
Emily got out of the car.
Everyone was watching Emily, even Carlos, waiting to see if her confirmation would end the matter.
"Officers, I didn’t see anything."
To the surprise of the Yan Family, especially Father Parker, Emily’s next words turned their faces ashen,
"Emily, are you sure? You really didn’t see anything?"
Father Parker was so agitated his chest heaved; after all, wasn’t Aunt Parker a close relative to Lan? Why was Emily acting against her own family at such a time?
Emily thought earnestly.
"I really didn’t see anything. But officers, whether a person is innocent or not is easy to discover.
After all, a leopard can’t change its spots."
Father Parker’s face grew even darker.
Of course, he knew his sister’s character. When Aunt Parker was sent back from Capital, she had a police record.
She stole several pieces of her employer’s jewelry and was caught red-handed.
After hearing Emily’s remarks, a few police officers conferred discreetly, and decided to take the suspect back to the station.
Immediately, the police took Aunt Parker away in the police car.
