Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Male Beauty is Poisonous

Eliza Sutton was about to shake her head when she noticed Mrs. Lockwood’s gaze land on her lips.

Shane Lockwood had bitten the corner of her lip earlier.

Eliza’s cheeks flushed red in an instant, and her back grew incredibly hot.

She wasn’t blushing out of shyness, though.

Instead, she was berating herself for not smashing his damn head in when Shane had kissed her.

Mrs. Lockwood, of course, had no idea what Eliza was thinking.

Much less that Eliza’s personal philosophy was that a heart empty of men was a direct path to financial success.

Looking at Eliza’s flushed cheeks, Mrs. Lockwood’s expression turned suggestive. "Shane has finally figured it out. I was honestly worried he’d stay a monk forever."

’With two sons as old as his, he’s the last person who should be called a monk,’ Eliza thought.

But a comment like that would sound far too jealous, and she couldn’t bring herself to say it.

"Shane told me he met a master physician on par with Mr. Croft. He said he not only cheated death, but his health has improved significantly."

Eliza nodded. "It has improved a lot."

’I treated him myself. I can’t guarantee he’ll live to be a hundred, but as long as no one plots against him again, he should be able to live out a long, natural life.’

"And... in that aspect?"

’Which aspect?’

At first, Eliza was a little baffled.

Then, she saw Mrs. Lockwood’s suggestive gaze and belatedly realized she was asking about her and Shane’s sex life.

’Me and Shane... having sex?’

To Eliza, the idea was more surreal than The Moon crashing into the Earth.

’Sure, Shane Lockwood is handsome, has a great body, comes from a good family, is capable, has a strong back, and even better pectoral muscles... but at the end of the day, he’s still a man.’

’As the saying goes, men are creatures to be admired from afar, not toyed with up close. Especially male beauty—it’s always laced with poison.’

’Just watch *Lost in the Stars* a few times if you don’t believe me.’

As Eliza was ranting internally, a hint of her feelings inevitably surfaced on her expression.

Mrs. Lockwood misunderstood.

She assumed her son still wasn’t... performing well.

Mrs. Lockwood couldn’t help but ask, "Could it be that the doctor Shane hired this time... wasn’t very good?"

"No, I heard from Shane that this doctor is extremely skilled."

’Are you kidding me? Why would I sling mud at myself?’

Seeing Eliza’s firm expression, Mrs. Lockwood paused, stunned, before a look of sudden understanding dawned on her face.

Mrs. Lockwood patted Eliza’s hand and promised, "Eliza, don’t you worry. You’re the daughter-in-law I’ve set my heart on. I will definitely help you."

And with that, Eliza was shown out.

Eliza was already out of Serenity Gardens before it dawned on her: what exactly was Mrs. Lockwood going to help her with?

Later, when Eliza found out, she wanted to smash her own damn head in. Why hadn’t she just kept her mouth shut?

But that was a story for another time.

After leaving the Lockwood residence, Eliza headed to Innis.

’Before my identity was revealed, I could get away with playing dead. Now that it’s out in the open, that’s not really an option anymore.’

「Meanwhile, on a film set.」

Eva Monroe had just finished filming a scene. She moved a small folding stool and sat under a tree, memorizing her script while sweating profusely.

The script in her hands was covered in all kinds of tabs and notes.

Suddenly, her phone rang. It was a call from her agent, Ms. Redwood.

Ms. Redwood said, "Eve, bad news! Your clothing endorsement got snatched!"

The clothing endorsement Ms. Redwood was talking about was a campaign Eva had landed a year ago. The results had been great, and the brand was planning to renew her contract.

On top of that, Eva had recently had a small surge in popularity, so the endorsement fee had increased significantly.

The brand was also a household name, which was a huge help for an actress like Eva, who was in a bit of a career slump.

Although Eva now had some name recognition, it was still too early in her career. Without any major roles under her belt, it was difficult for someone in her position to land good endorsements.

And now, this endorsement—which had been a sure thing—had been snatched away. Ms. Redwood was frantic.

Eva frowned. "Who snatched it?"

"Genevieve Lane."

Eva frowned. "Genevieve Lane? Isn’t that Kiara Wynn’s cousin?"

"Yes, that would be my cousin."

At some point, Kiara Wynn had walked over.

Flanked by Genevieve Lane and three or four assistants, she swept over in her exquisite costume as the female lead. The grand entourage only made Eva look even more drab and dusty by comparison.

Eva put down her phone and stood up from her stool.

Genevieve Lane stepped forward. "What? Not happy about it? You want to start something? Eva Monroe, you better think carefully. We’re in public. If you dare to lay a hand on me, I’ll expose you, and my fans will tear you to shreds!"

Eva glanced at Genevieve, then moved to a new spot. "If you want to act, talk to the director. You don’t need to put on a show for me. Also, you were blocking my light."

With that, she went back to her script.

Eva was furious that her endorsement had been stolen.

But in this profit-driven industry, it was an all-too-common occurrence.

’Useless anger is a waste of time. I’m better off working hard to improve myself.’

Humiliated and annoyed at being ignored, Genevieve was about to lash out when Kiara stopped her.

Kiara said, "Eva Monroe, you’ve seen the news, right? You should know that good friend of yours is actually Master Innis. Now that her identity is revealed and she’s back in her rightful place, is she too good to be friends with a poor wretch like you?"

Genevieve immediately chimed in, "Yeah, who likes being friends with a pauper? You might turn into one yourself."

Eva finally looked up. "If you know we’re such good friends, why are you trying such a cheap taunt on me? Did you leave your brain at home when you joined the production? I’d advise against it. Director Archer can be really vicious when he’s yelling at people."

"You dare call me brainless!" Genevieve fumed. Just as she was about to explode, she caught Kiara’s eye and quickly changed tack. "Eva Monroe, don’t try to change the subject. If you two are really such good friends, how could she see you struggling so badly and not give you a hand? Since she’s Master Innis, she should at least give you an endorsement for Innis, right?"

Although Innis had never hired a brand ambassador before, Saul Reynolds had previously revealed that there were plans for one, so countless award-winning actresses and A-listers were coveting the position.

Eva was speechless. "Confirmed. You definitely left your brain at home. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have said something so brainless."

"Is my cousin the brainless one, or are you just afraid to face reality?" Kiara looked at Eva as if she were a pathetic insect. "How pitiful. Your endorsement was stolen, and your so-called best friend won’t even lift a finger to help you. Eva Monroe, your life is such a failure. If your fans knew they were stanning such a failure of an idol, would they still support you?"

Eva remained unmoved. "Eliza and I are friends. Real friends. Nothing will ever change that."

Genevieve sneered, "Keep up the tough act. I’d love to see just how miserable you’ll be without any endorsements."

As she spoke, Genevieve opened her social media app to check her comments section.

Her fans had been celebrating ever since she officially announced the endorsement.

But then, the app started lagging and wouldn’t load.

"What’s going on? Did something big happen?"

Then, their phones rang in unison, all calls from their agents.

Of all the calls, Ms. Redwood’s voice was the most excited and boisterous: "Eve, you’re about to take off! Master Innis herself just announced that you are the one and only, lifelong brand ambassador for Innis!"
