After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 88: Mrs. Lockwood is Furious
Eliza Sutton’s eyes instantly lit up. "You’ll really agree to any condition?"
Seeing Eliza Sutton rubbing her hands together eagerly, Erik Irvine actually felt a bit relieved.
In any case, it was far better for her to be sensible enough to accept compensation than to cry, beg, and refuse the divorce.
"Of course," Erik Irvine said. "President Lockwood is a generous man. He would never treat you unfairly."
"That’s wonderful." Eliza Sutton’s eyes sparkled. "I want Emmett. Have Shane Lockwood transfer Emmett’s custody to me."
Erik Irvine was so shocked he nearly swallowed his tongue. "Mistress, you can’t be serious."
"A joke?" Eliza Sutton frowned. "I meant every single word. How is that a joke? If you can convince Shane Lockwood, I’ll sign the divorce papers immediately."
Erik Irvine replied, "President Lockwood will never agree to that. Perhaps you should consider other terms. He is very generous when it comes to financial matters."
’Generous when it comes to financial matters?’
Eliza Sutton understood. He was reminding her to seize the opportunity and ask for money.
But she couldn’t care less about any of that.
"That won’t be necessary."
Just as Erik Irvine was about to speak, Eliza Sutton had already taken the pen and signed the divorce papers.
Erik Irvine froze, not expecting Eliza Sutton to be so decisive. He couldn’t help but urge, "Mistress, please reconsider."
Eliza Sutton said nothing, simply pushing the signed divorce papers across to Erik Irvine. "If Mr. Lockwood has no objections, I’d like to spend a few more days with Emmett before I move out of Seacliff Manor. If that’s inconvenient, perhaps Emmett could stay with me for a few days. Also, I hope that even after we’re divorced, I’ll still be able to see Emmett from time to time."
After she finished speaking, Eliza Sutton left. Erik Irvine took the divorce papers to see Shane Lockwood.
"What conditions did she ask for?"
Erik Irvine held nothing back and repeated everything Eliza Sutton had said.
Shane Lockwood sneered. "Smart, isn’t she? Using Emmett to feign a retreat as a way to advance. Too bad for her, it’s completely useless."
Erik Irvine ventured, "Then... how about letting the young master live with the Mistress somewhere else for a month?"
Shane Lockwood’s brow furrowed. "Erik, have you lost your mind? Letting Emmett be alone with Eliza Sutton is no different than sending a sheep into a tiger’s den."
Erik Irvine replied, "This was the Mistress’s only request."
Shane Lockwood fell silent for a moment before speaking. "Tell her she can stay at Seacliff Manor for one week."
Erik Irvine accepted. "President Lockwood, should we postpone the international conference call in ten minutes?"
"That won’t be necessary."
Shane Lockwood picked up his phone, and Erik Irvine wheeled him out.
Not long after he left, the office door opened once again.
A small figure walked in.
An assistant followed behind him. "Young Master, should I notify President Lockwood that you’ve arrived?"
"No need. I’m not here to see my dad today."
"Oh? Then you’re here to..."
"I’m here to find Mo—"
Emmett Lockwood stopped mid-sentence. He remembered that his mother didn’t want outsiders to know about her relationship with his father.
’In other words, Dad still hasn’t completely captured Mom’s heart.’
’He’s so stupid.’
Emmett was thoroughly disgusted.
"I’m here for a date. You don’t need to worry about me."
"A... a date..." The assistant’s jaw nearly hit the floor.
"Is there a problem?"
"N-no..." the assistant stammered, then hesitated. "It’s just... this is the president’s office. It might not be appropriate for you to bring an outsider in here."
"She’s not an outsider," Emmett said, a little displeased.
’Mom is definitely not an outsider.’
"You don’t need to worry about it. I’ll clear it with my dad. For now, go prepare everything on this list."
Emmett took out a list and handed it to the assistant.
The assistant glanced at it. Good heavens! Snacks, fruit, fresh flowers, a catered meal, gifts... it had everything. Even a grown man wouldn’t plan a date this extravagant.
"Have it all ready before eleven-thirty. Is that a problem?"
"None. Not at all." The assistant left after Emmett waved his hand dismissively.
As the assistant closed the door, she couldn’t resist a final glance at Emmett. She saw him taking his homework out of his little backpack.
The assistant froze.
’Alright, then.’
The assistant had to admit that just a moment ago, she’d forgotten one crucial fact: the young master was only five years old.
Emmett worked on his homework until a little past eleven.
Just then, the assistant came in and arranged a small dining table to look beautiful and romantic.
Emmett had also changed into a dapper little suit. He remembered his mom had been wearing a blue dress when she left for work that morning.
Once everything was ready, Emmett finally called Eliza Sutton.
"Okay, Mommy will head over after she gets off for lunch. See you in a little while, Emmett."
Emmett was thrilled to hear Eliza agree. He did a happy little spin around the office, then suddenly spotted a document on the desk.
Emmett leaned in for a closer look and saw the title: *Divorce Agreement*.
He opened it and saw that his mother had already signed it.
Emmett’s eyes instantly turned red.
’Dad must have forced Mom!’
’He must have used some dirty trick to make her do it!’
Just then, a knock sounded at the office door, and Eliza Sutton pushed it open and walked in.
"Emmett."
Emmett quickly put the divorce papers away and wiped the corners of his reddening eyes.
"Mom, you’re here."
"I am." Eliza noticed the redness in Emmett’s eyes and was surprised. "Emmett, why are you crying? Did someone bully you?"
"No one bullied me."
Emmett couldn’t stop himself from hugging Eliza. ’Someone clearly bullied Mom, but the first thing she did was worry about my feelings.’
’There’s really no one in the world better than Mom.’
"I just had a nightmare," he said. "I dreamed that you left me, and I also dreamed that someone was bullying you. I got so scared that I started crying."
Eliza chuckled, but her heart melted completely. ’How could there be such an adorable child in this world?’
Eliza hugged Emmett back. "Silly Emmett, no one can bully your mom."
"I’ll protect you from now on, Mom," Emmett promised.
"Okay." Eliza ruffled Emmett’s hair, her thoughts turning once more to the possibility of taking him with her.
Shane Lockwood’s international conference call lasted well into the afternoon.
He had just returned to his office and was about to get to work when he received a call from Mrs. Lockwood.
"Shane Lockwood, you get yourself back here this instant!"
"Mom, I have to work late today. I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it back. If there’s something you need, why not just tell me over the phone?"
"’Tell you over the phone?’ If everything could be handled over the phone, what would be the point of ever seeing each other? When I’m dead, you can just tell me your condolences over the phone, too!"
"Mom, who made you so angry? Did Second Aunt go back to the family home again?"
"This has nothing to do with Florence Young! Shane Lockwood, don’t you dare try to change the subject! If you still consider me your mother, you will get back here immediately! I’ll be waiting for you at Seacliff Manor!"
With that, she hung up.
Shane Lockwood frowned.
Erik carefully asked, "President Lockwood, about the upcoming team meeting..."
"Change it to a video conference. We’ll hold it at eight tonight."
"Understood."
"Get the car ready. We’re going back to Seacliff Manor."
...
An hour later, Shane Lockwood’s car pulled up to Seacliff Manor. He had just wheeled himself into the foyer when a teacup came flying through the air toward him.
"Shane Lockwood, you’ve gotten bold, haven’t you? How dare you get a divorce without saying a single word!"
