After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 149: My Understanding of Henry Preston
"What’s going on?" He took a few steps forward, with a gray suit jacket draped over one arm and the other hand in his pocket, casually standing there like a model with an air of elegance.
As soon as the receptionist saw Henry Preston, her expression immediately changed into a sweet and charming smile and quickly replied, "Sir, there’s just a little misunderstanding between these two guests and me, it’s nothing serious. Is there anything I can assist you with?"
She didn’t seem to recognize Henry Preston.
"Are all the SPA services unavailable today? Is it really not possible to do them, or are you looking down on our coupons?" I grabbed the coupons and threw them on the ground, looking up at Henry Preston and the receptionist, imposing, "Today I must use these two coupons, or else it’s not over between us!"
Henry Preston picked up the two coupons from the ground, his sharp gaze falling back on Joel Sutton.
He knew that I definitely wouldn’t use coupons to spend at a place like this.
It could only have been Joel Sutton who brought them.
I didn’t care what he thought, just considered today as me crashing his place.
Henry Preston took out a wallet and drew out a black card with gold trim, handing it to me. It was the highest level gold card from Whispering Gardens, Crystal Dawson also had one.
"Sir!" The receptionist’s eyes first showed surprise and envy when she saw Henry Preston take out the card, then she stopped him, "It’s okay, you don’t need to bail me out by letting this lady use your card, I will call the police!"
Henry Preston glanced at her, his gaze indifferent.
I stood up, not taking his card, just pointing at the receptionist, "Henry Preston, I don’t need your card, just one thing, fire her now immediately!"
Hearing Henry Preston’s name, the receptionist was stunned for a moment, then realized his identity, her expression shocked.
"Madam, even Mr. Preston doesn’t have the authority to fire me, does he? Since you know Mr. Preston, let’s just consider it my mistake for not recognizing you, can’t we just forget about it? I’ll take you to get a SPA right now." The receptionist was a person who knew how to bend and stretch.
Henry Preston looked at my overbearing demeanor, a trace of helplessness flashing between his brows, but he still made a phone call, "Manager Shaw, come over and settle the salary for the receptionist."
"Mr. Preston, you..." The receptionist was dumbfounded, stammering slightly.
It’s very difficult to get into a place like Whispering Gardens; even serving as a waiter is highly sought after by many young girls, not just because of the high salary, but also because it increases the chances of meeting rich and handsome men.
Soon, Manager Shaw hurried over and, not having time to understand the whole story, took the receptionist away.
A service person without insight wasn’t suitable to work here anyway; she couldn’t recognize me and Henry Preston today, and wouldn’t recognize other distinguished guests tomorrow, sooner or later offending the wrong person.
I don’t look down on any job or any person, but the receptionist’s disdain made me very unhappy.
"Sutton, let’s go." I had achieved my ultimate goal and had no desire to get a SPA, so I got up and gestured to Joel Sutton.
Joel Sutton nodded, stood up, and followed me, preparing to leave.
Until we had walked a distance outside the door, I turned back, seeing that Henry Preston was still standing there, watching our backs.
Joel Sutton also noticed and said to me, "Miss Hathaway, is it possible he can’t let you go after the divorce?"
"What makes you say that?" I asked.
"I don’t know, maybe it’s a man’s intuition? The way he looked at you just now didn’t seem devoid of feeling," Joel Sutton analyzed seriously.
I didn’t answer his question directly, just smiled. After we reached where I parked, I offered to take him home.
Joel Sutton shook his head, "No need, Miss Hathaway, I can wait for the bus here, it goes straight to where I live, you should head back, drive safely."
"Alright then, next time I’ll treat you to a meal." I replied, having had Joel Sutton treat me several times, I felt it was overdue.
"Okay!" Joel Sutton agreed, seemingly pleased.
Just then the bus arrived. After watching Joel Sutton get on, I drove home.
Upon arriving home, an unexpected visitor surprised me.
"Zoe!" Eloise Lawson was sitting in my living room, eating fruit. Seeing me, she stood up and greeted me with a bright smile.
My parents were still up, chatting with her, and when they saw I had returned, they asked me to join them.
"Zoe, I came to City A to visit friends, but she’s on a business trip and won’t return until tomorrow morning. My dad, the old-fashioned guy, was afraid something would happen to me, so he insisted I stay at your place for the night." Eloise Lawson explained proactively.
"Your dad is right, it’s safer to stay here," my dad said with a smile.
Eloise Lawson and I were not really familiar, we’d only met twice at a banquet, and I had overhead her griping about me in the restroom.
So I didn’t express much hospitality, just smiled faintly, "Alright, staying here is fine, I’m a bit tired, I’ll go up to take a shower and rest."
Eloise Lawson immediately stood up to follow me, "Zoe, I’d like to take a shower too, is there a bathroom in the guest room?"
I glanced back at her, nodded, and didn’t answer.
I led Eloise Lawson to a guest room, provided her with toiletries, and was about to head back to my room when she called me.
"Zoe, can I ask you a few questions?"
I stopped, turned to look at Eloise Lawson, and noticed a hint of hesitation on her face, which quickly turned into an unabashed expression, "It’s about Henry Preston. I know you probably won’t like what I’m going to say, but since you’re divorced, I can openly pursue him now!"
Is she honestly confronting me now? Suddenly, I found myself appreciating Eloise Lawson’s personality—not only gossiping behind my back but willing to be candid face-to-face. I couldn’t help but compare her to Azure Vaughn, and it seemed she was more straightforward.
Azure Vaughn had also admitted things to me in the past, but she always liked to find some hypocritical reasons to explain herself, which annoyed me.
"Ask away." I closed the door.
After Eloise Lawson asked a few questions, I realized she genuinely liked Henry Preston.
Such as what type of woman Henry Preston likes, what dishes he favors, and what his favorite leisure activities are...
I answered each one.
After I finished, Eloise Lawson, with her heavily smoky eyes, looked at me and said, "I’ve heard you chased him for years, it seems true, otherwise, you wouldn’t know so much in detail."
"Good luck to you." I smiled lightly, unconcerned.
Returning to my room, I was about to take a shower and rest when Ivan Underwood sent a video call.
Upon answering, his face appeared in the small window, neatly handsome.
He asked about Azure Vaughn apologizing to me.
After I briefly explained, he suddenly said, "Maybe I shouldn’t be a doctor, I should take over the family business."
"What do you mean?" I squinted, pretending to rest, lazily asking.
"That way I could be like Henry Preston, with more freedom," Ivan Underwood laughed helplessly, "You went abroad, I secured an official posting opportunity to follow abroad, but then you returned home, and I couldn’t free myself up for a while."
I opened my eyes and looked at Ivan Underwood in the video, unable to resist feeling sympathetic, "I’ll mourn for you for three seconds."
"Mourn for me in person when I return," he said.
"Sure, I’ll bring my own candles," I joked.
"Trying to get rid of me?"
"No, mainly to show sincerity, and create an atmosphere!"
We chatted for over a dozen to twenty minutes before I couldn’t fight sleep anymore and drifted off without ending the call. The next day when I woke up, my phone had run out of power, and upon charging and checking, I saw our call had lasted over four hours.
After I fell asleep, he didn’t end the call until my phone ran out of battery.
Truly... impressive.
Coming downstairs, Eloise Lawson emerged from the guest room as well, sporting serious dark circles, seemingly having stayed up all night.
"Zoe, I studied for a long time last night, and I think my biggest rival is Azure Vaughn. Does Henry Preston really like her?" she asked me.
"I don’t know, it’s something you need to figure out yourself," I replied.
"You might be right, although Azure Vaughn isn’t anything special, she does have a pure look, but I find her quite petty, I definitely won’t lose to her." Eloise Lawson’s mysterious confidence amused me a bit.
My mom prepared breakfast, and after Eloise Lawson finished eating, she got a call from a friend and then left.
I had a feeling she wasn’t just visiting friends in City A but rather was here for Henry Preston.
Now with rumors about Henry Preston and Azure Vaughn circulating widely, she probably felt a sense of crisis and found an excuse to come play. If I’m not mistaken, she’ll find a reason to meet and interact with Henry Preston.
I just didn’t expect to get involved myself.
The day after Eloise Lawson left, she called my dad, saying she wanted to thank our family for letting her stay the night by treating me to a meal, then gave an address.
My dad and her dad have a good relationship, so he agreed wholeheartedly. After hanging up, he asked me to meet Eloise Lawson at the restaurant.
"Eloise is a warm child, you should consider it as making a new friend," said my dad.
Rather than staying home all day, he preferred that I go out for food, fun, and recovering my spirits sooner.
Unable to refuse, I grabbed my car keys and headed straight to the restaurant.
