After Transmigrating into a Novel with My Boyfriend, He Turned Out to Be a Native Villain-Chapter 274: The Ritual
As soon as those words were spoken, everyone instinctively looked toward the door.
On the path not far outside, a black sedan was parked. Its two headlights were almost bright enough to light up the entire field.
Once the headlights turned off, darkness fell again.
After two soft “click” sounds from the car doors closing, a flashlight beam flickered on over there.
Two people?
Yu Wenlin squinted, trying to see clearly. As the two figures came closer, he clicked his tongue inwardly.
That woman actually showed up too.
He forced a smile that didn’t reach his eyes and spoke, “Miss Yu, what brings you here?”
Yu Li stepped into the house and turned off her flashlight. The black coat on her body almost blended into the night. She crossed her arms and raised a brow with a smirk. “Oh? Am I not allowed to come?”
“Of course not, it’s just... you know how dangerous this is, right? I’m just worried you might get hurt.”
Yu Wenlin didn’t trust this NPC at all. There was something off about her that unsettled him.
Before he could say anything more, the woman cut in, “Move that camera further away.”
Seeing Wei Yangbing’s camera pointing at her, her brows furrowed slightly.
“Don’t point it at me. I don’t want to be on camera.”
Wei Yangbing froze, then quickly turned the camera away. “Got it, sorry, my bad.”
The woman said nothing more, just pulled a mask from her bag and put it on.
Yu Wenlin glanced at the camera, thinking, if this NPC hates being filmed so much, then why the h**l did she come here in the first place?
Before he could dwell on it, Chen the Daoist’s voice snapped him back. “The things I told you to prepare—are they ready?”
Snapping out of his thoughts, he quickly nodded.
“All ready.”
On the table sat an empty bowl, half-filled with clear water, with a pair of chopsticks beside it. A candle was already lit on the table.
Chen the Daoist scanned the room, then suddenly frowned, his tone turning grave. “There really is something in this house you picked. And it’s strong.”
Yu Wenlin was stunned. That wasn’t what they’d agreed on before.
They’d originally planned to use the possession ritual as an excuse to trick Quanran into a full sacrifice. Why was he now acting like the house was actually haunted?
He’d chosen this place at random. No way they’d gotten that unlucky… right?
Yu Wenlin cleared his throat. “If that’s the case, Master, should the ritual be changed?”
That was a subtle reminder to the old man not to forget the real plan.
Chen the Daoist furrowed his brows. He was just about to suggest canceling the ritual when a lazy female voice chimed in, “Should be fine, right?”
Hearing that, Chen the Daoist’s expression grew even more serious. He walked straight over to Yu Li, eyes stern, voice low.
“No way! We can’t perform the ritual here! There really is a powerful force in this house. If it messes with the process halfway through, even I won’t be able to contain it.”
This brat really picked the worst possible place—a spot of extreme yin energy. After years of accumulation, whatever’s hidden here isn’t your average ghost.
Even though he was whispering, in the dead silence of the room, everyone heard most of it.
The group exchanged looks of surprise and confusion. Yu Wenlin might not understand much about spiritual matters, but even he could tell something was off.
But the woman just lazily lifted her eyes, casually swept her gaze around, and the corners of her lips curled beneath her mask.
“Isn’t that perfect? Us big-time creators need this kind of video to pull in the followers. Tonight’s shoot is all about ghost hunting in a haunted house.”
Yu Wenlin blinked. That... actually made sense.
He’d always doubted the ghost-summoning plan. Even if this house was really haunted, if the old Daoist couldn’t handle that, then he wasn’t much use anyway.
And how would he deal with Bo Jingmo later?
Come to think of it, maybe he could even use the ghost here to test if the ritual actually worked.
With that in mind, he smiled. “Exactly! Master, go ahead. It’s fine, I trust you!”
“……”
Seeing that the other three had no objections, Chen the Daoist let out a silent sigh.
Sigh... if people are determined to court death, nothing can stop them.
“Then let’s begin.”
He pulled out his tools from his bag and laid them out on the table one by one. Just in case, he also stuck talismans on the door and windows.
After everything was set, he took out a small knife, nudged the stool into place with his foot, and looked at the others.
“Who... is going to do the spirit summoning?”
The setup was pretty eerie, and the two girls in the back shrank their heads a little. Quanran especially had a bad feeling.
She glanced at Wei Yangbing, who was holding the camera, and was just about to offer to help when Yu Wenlin’s cold voice cut through.
“Quanran, you go.”
Her body stiffened, and she stammered, “Brother Yu, I just got out of the hospital... Can’t someone else—”
But Yu Wenlin only gave a cold laugh. “That’s exactly why you should go. The weaker the body, the better the possession works. That’s when the ghosts come out.”
“But…”
Seeing her still hesitating, he frowned and walked over. “Are you going against me now? Don’t you want to gain followers?”
Then, out of everyone’s line of sight, he lowered his voice and threatened, “Quanran, when I say go, you f**king go. Forgot the rules of Deva?”
Quanran froze. “I…”
In the end, half forced, half reluctant, she sat down in the chair.
Chen the Daoist looked at the pale-faced girl in front of him. His hand holding the knife hesitated slightly.
“You’re sure?”
Looking at the sharp blade, Quanran grew even paler.
She turned to the side, trying to find help, but the others all avoided her gaze in perfect coordination.
Yu Wenlin didn’t even hesitate. “She’s sure. Hurry and start.”
As he spoke, he kept glaring at Quanran, as if daring her to say no—if she did, he’d take the knife himself.
The camera was still recording nearby, its red light blinking in the dark. The dilapidated old house was shrouded in a faint mist, and the silence suddenly became suffocating.
Quanran swallowed hard. It’s just a possession, right? It should be over quickly. And the Daoist is here anyway.
She nodded hesitantly. “I’m sure.”
The Daoist let out a barely audible sigh. He snipped off a strand of her hair and wrapped it carefully in talisman paper.
“Then I’ll begin.”
Standing in the back, Yu Li noticed everyone’s attention was locked on the Daoist’s movements. A glint flashed in her eyes.
She tapped her arm with her fingertips, her gaze drifting idly—until it landed on the deep red ghost shadow hiding behind the door.
The corners of her lips curled slightly.
Yu Banxue, it’s your turn now.
