Chapter 543: The Price to be Paid

"What are you two doing? We’ve got to go!" Joseph screamed in panic as he looked at the two, who were still in a daze.

Gastone and Lucia flinched as their moment was disturbed.

"We need to go now!" Gastone stated hurriedly as he took the pendant with him. He was about to lick it to teleport them to the werewolf realm when Joseph grabbed Gastone’s shoulder.

"Don’t leave me here," Joseph exclaimed after hearing the two were about to escape without him.

Gastone doubted for a second since he was taking a human to a realm that was supposed to be a secret.

"What? You’re just going to leave me here and get imprisoned? Heck no!" Joseph snapped in rage, feeling betrayed.

Gastone gave Joseph a sharp glance, his jaw tightening with urgency. "Then stay close," he growled, the pendant already glowing faintly in his hand.

Lucia instinctively gripped Gastone’s arm, her heart hammering against her chest.

The sound of heavy boots and angry shouts echoed down the corridor— they didn’t have much time.

Without another word, Gastone licked the enchanted pendant.

A blinding red light burst forth, swirling around the three of them. Smoke erupted like a thick mist, swallowing their forms whole.

The air pulsed with raw energy, and the ground beneath them rumbled as if the very fabric of the realm protested their departure.

Then, they vanished.

The smoke dispersed within seconds, curling away like fading fog under morning sun.

The space they had stood in was now empty, except for the lingering scent of magic and broken vials.

Back at the altar...

Daniel stood in the middle of the chaos, his gaze locked on the fading smoke. His hands trembled at his sides, fists clenched so tightly that blood seeped from his palms where his nails dug in. His breathing was heavy, sharp, shallow, and uneven.

Gone. Lucia was gone.

"Lucia..." Daniel murmured, his voice cracked and strained.

Daniel stepped forward, ignoring the guards shouting behind him and the priest trying to make sense of the interruption.

The sacred hall, moments ago filled with flowers and noble witnesses, now seemed like a prison.

Daniel’s eyes darted around frantically. "Find them!" he barked, his voice thundering through the chamber. "Seal the gates—search every corridor, every inch of this city!"

"Yes, master!" the guards stated as they scurried away to do their job.

The other guests who remained inside were entertained by Missus Belo, felt ashamed as to what had just happened.

"I expected some intervention, but not from Gastone! That traitor. He had eyes for Lucia in the first place!" Daniel exclaimed in rage. He couldn’t contain his anger, so he started throwing things around.

"Son!" Missus Belo called out after seeing Daniel losing himself.

"Mother, this is all your fault! If you didn’t introduce Lucia to me, then I won’t be attracted to her!" Daniel sneered at his mother, blaming her for the pain he felt.

Missus Belo opened her mouth to defend herself, but paused as she agreed to what Daniel had said. After all, she was the one pushing him for marriage.

"I apologize, Daniel," Missus Belo said, looking down in sadness as she walked away. She was hurt and shamed at the same time, and her heart couldn’t take it anymore.

As Missus Belo walked away, she felt tightness in her chest. She grasped her clothes as the pain continued to increase.

"Ah... Da-Daniel," Missus Belo called out as she looked back, trying to ask for help, but Daniel only glared at her.

"Stop acting, old hag! You’re only adding to my problems!" Danie shouted before he left, leaving Missus Belo in pain.

Several friends of Missus Belo rushed towards her while Daniel completely ignored his mother.

"I thought I’d be able to f*ck her!" Daniel exclaimed upon reaching the back door. He thought he was alone as he let his thoughts out. His mind went back to the time when he and Lucia almost had sex. "I should have taken her that time," he added with regret.

"You can always do it," a playful voice stated from behind.

Daniel flinched and looked back in surprise. "Ah, Madam Giselle," he stated, shaking his head.

Giselle stood elegantly in the shadows of the corridor, her lips curved into a knowing smile. Her eyes shimmered in the dim light, and her long cloak trailed behind her like a serpent slithering through the dark.

Daniel straightened his posture, though his chest still heaved with frustration. "What do you mean I can still do it? Lucia’s gone... She escaped with that mangy bastard."

Giselle stepped closer, the click of her heels echoing ominously. "Escaped, yes... but not unreachable."

Daniel frowned, suspicious. "What are you saying?"

"I know where they went," Giselle said calmly, her gaze locking onto Daniel like a hunter staring down prey. "A certain realm. A place shrouded in secrecy, inaccessible to most. But I have my ways."

Daniel’s eyes narrowed as he chuckled. "A realm? Are you serious, or are you losing your mind as well?"

"Do you want to get Lucia back, or not? Or are you going to let Gastone be the winner between the two of you?" Giselle purred, circling him slowly.

That sentence enraged Daniel. It triggered his pride as a man to win the woman he wanted. "I’ll get her back and make sure Gastone will cry about it!"

"Hmm, that’s good. However, you must understand... it comes with a price. Power such as this doesn’t come freely," Giselle hissed, a smirk laced on her lips.

"I don’t care about the cost," Daniel growled. "If it brings me to Lucia— if it lets me tear Gastone apart with my bare hands, then I’ll pay whatever the price is."

Giselle smiled wickedly, her fingertips brushing his shoulder. "Good. That’s what I like to hear. Rage... devotion... obsession. All of it will guide you."

"What do I have to do?" Daniel asked, desperation now mixing with desire.

Giselle leaned in. "I want you to trust me."
