Chapter 544: The Humans

As the enchanted power consumed Gastone, Joseph, and Lucia. Their vision turned dark in a split second as chills ran down their spine.

However, the chills were replaced by warmth.

Gastone was the first one to open his eyes. They were in his house, built near the palace, in his very own garden.

"I’m back," Gastone whispered in amazement. It was a cue for Joseph and Lucia to open their eyes as well.

"Whoa," both exclaimed in amazement upon seeing the place, which was nothing like the building they had seen before.

"Where are we? How did we get here?" Joseph asked in confusion since a second ago, they were in the church.

Lucia stared at Gastone. Confusion etched on her face and wondered how did they get there in the first place.

"Oh my goodness. Does the vials of smoke contains hypnosis or sleeping pills!?" Joseph asked since he was trying to find logical answers to his questions.

But before Gastone could answer, a figure appeared from the door.

"You’re back earlier than expected," a familiar voice said.

"Rosina," Gastone whispered as his expression darkened. His eyes shifted to the humans he had taken with him in the werewolf realm, and he knew he needed a reason for them to stay.

Rosina’s eyes sent danger their way. However, she controlled her emotions and ensured that neither human would be suspicious.

"Gastone," Rosina said, her voice smooth yet edged with restrained authority, "Let them rest. They look like they’ve been through a lot."

Rosina’s piercing auburn eyes didn’t leave Lucia and Joseph, but her tone softened just enough to mask the simmering tension beneath.

Gastone hesitated. He knew Rosina well—beneath her poised demeanor lay a predator ready to strike. Still, she wasn’t wrong.

The humans were visibly shaken and tired, especially Lucia, who leaned slightly against Gastone, her knees trembling as she held his arm tight.

"Who is she?" Lucia whispered in confusion.

Gastone glanced at Lucia, but he chose to ignore her for a bit. He returned his gaze toward Rosina and replied.

"...You’re right," Gastone finally said with a nod. Then he stared at the two, "There’s a guest room down the hall. Joseph, Lucia— take some time to rest. We’ll talk once you’ve recovered."

"Hold on," Joseph raised a brow suspiciously, "You’re not going to hypnotize us again, are you?"

Gastone gave a small, tired smile. "No tricks. Just rest for a while. You’re safe here."

Lucia, still dazed, looked Gastone directly in the eyes. There was something deeper in her gaze— something that wavered between trust and suspicion. But she didn’t speak. She simply nodded once.

Rosina forced a smile and stepped to the side to let Joseph and Lucia walk on the path.

As their footsteps faded and the door shut behind them, the air in the area shifted. Rosina crossed her arms and stepped closer to Gastone, her voice low and sharp.

"You brought humans here. Two of them. One, well, she is your mate, and two, an unknown man, and both of them don’t know you’re a werewolf," she hissed. "Have you completely lost your mind?"

"I had no choice," Gastone replied, his jaw tightening.

"Problems always have choices, Gastone. I let you have that pendant for the sake of you coming in and out of this realm, not to use it for others," Rosina gritted her teeth, trying to control her rage.

Gastone didn’t flinch under Rosina’s glare, though the weight of her words pressed heavily on him. He knew she was right— bringing humans into the werewolf realm was forbidden for good reason.

The peace between realms was fragile, and one wrong step could tip the balance into chaos.

"I had to save them," Gastone said firmly, eyes hardening. "If I didn’t act, Daniel would have bound Lucia to him for life. I couldn’t let that happen. Not when she..." he faltered for a moment, but Rosina didn’t need him to finish.

Rosina’s expression flickered with understanding before her usual cold composure returned.

"So you risked exposure for a woman you can’t even claim as your own?" Rosina said bitterly, stepping closer, her voice just above a whisper. "What are you planning, Gastone? To tell her the truth? To let her live among us?"

"She is my mate," Gastone replied sternly.

"But does she know?" Rosina taunted as her eyes flickered back from wolf to a human eye.

Gastone’s jaw clenched as Rosina’s words struck deeper than he cared to admit. The garden, once a haven of peace, now felt like a battlefield. "No," Gastone admitted at last, voice tight. "She doesn’t know everything yet. But I’ll tell her. When the time is right."

Rosina scoffed. "Are you sure about that? How can a human accept a wolf?"

"That’s why I wanted to make her fall in love with me. That way, she can accept what I am," Gastone argued back in defense of his actions.

Rosina’s gaze hardened as Gastone stepped forward. His voice was quiet but filled with conviction. "Lucia isn’t just another human. She’s different. She feels the bond, even if she doesn’t know what it is yet. And Joseph— he’s just caught in the middle. I’ll deal with him."

Rosina narrowed her eyes. "Draco’s condition is still unstable, and you know, the councils don’t fully trust you. If they knew you brought two pairs of humans, I don’t know what would happen to them."

A long silence stretched between them.

Gastone knew his return alone in the werewolf realm was already a black hole. If the wolves knew that their sacred realm was inhabited by humans, it would only bring a mess.

Then Rosina’s tone softened— just slightly.

"I know you care for her, Gastone," Rosina said, voice lowering. "However, you must consider those around you."

Gastone remained silent. He clenched his fist while trying to think of a better way to deal with the situation.

"I thought you were fine with Lucia being human as my mate. I don’t understand why you’re reacting like that," Gastone whispered in defeat as he stared right into Rosina’s eyes, questioning her.
