Chapter 546: The Jealous Dog

Lucia’s heart tightened while hearing the footsteps getting closer and closer. At the same time, her breath hitched when the doorknob rattled.

"Gastone..." Lucia whispered as she slightly approached the door, but Joseph stopped her.

"Don’t, it’s dangerous," Joseph stated as his eyes fixed on the door. He wanted to show Lucia she could depend on him.

As the door opened, Gastone’s figure appeared. He looked stressed, and his facial expression was stoic.

"Lucia," Gastone muttered, thinking about her. However, the moment he saw Joseph’s hand holding Lucia’s arm, trying to protect her.

Gastone’s blood boiled straight into his head.

"Gas-" Joseph couldn’t continue his words when Gastone’s fist connected with his left cheek.

The impact was so strong that Joseph flew a meter away.

"AH!" Lucia screamed in shock after what had happened. "GASTONE! What are you doing!?"

Gastone didn’t reply and just stared at Joseph, who lost consciousness and was lying on the floor.

"He’s touching you!" Gastone replied, breathing heavily.

Lucia blinked a couple of times, trying to understand what was really going on. She could only face-palm when she realized what had just happened.

"Are you jealous?" Lucia stated, raising an eyebrow.

Gastone frowned and went closer to Lucia. He was trying to control himself from kissing her there at that moment.

"Yes," Gastone responded directly and confidently. His current actions were driven strongly by his emotions that he couldn’t even form a lie to cover his feelings.

Lucia’s lips parted slightly, her heart drumming so fast it felt like it might break through her chest. She hadn’t expected Gastone to admit it so boldly.

Gastone’s honesty struck Lucia harder than his fist had struck Joseph.

"Gastone..." Lucia whispered, her voice trembling.

Gastone’s eyes softened when they met hers, no longer burning with anger but with something deeper— something raw and unrestrained. He took a careful step closer, his hand reaching toward Lucia as though he feared she might slip away if he wasn’t gentle enough.

"I can’t stand the thought of anyone else near you," Gastone murmured, his voice low but desperate. "You’re mine, Lucia... only mine."

Lucia’s breath hitched. Her body tensed at the intensity of his words, yet her heart melted at the vulnerability in his tone.

Slowly, Lucia lifted her hand and touched Gastone’s chest, feeling the rapid thrum of his heartbeat under her palm.

"You don’t have to fight for me," Lucia said softly, her brows knitting with both frustration and tenderness. "I was already yours the moment you looked at me that way."

Gastone froze, his stoic mask shattering. His hand found Lucia’s cheek, his thumb brushing against her skin as if memorizing its warmth. "Say it again," he pleaded in a hushed voice, his lips hovering just inches from hers.

Lucia’s pulse raced, but she leaned closer, her forehead pressing against his. "I’m yours, Gastone."

The tension that had been building between them finally snapped.

Gastone’s lips crashed onto hers, fierce yet trembling with all the emotions he could no longer contain. Lucia melted into his embrace, her fingers curling into his shirt as if she never wanted to let go.

Behind them, Joseph groaned faintly on the floor, but neither of them noticed.

In that moment, the world narrowed down to just the two of them— the jealousy, the fear, the unspoken longing, all sealed in a kiss that burned like fire and soothed like rain.

Lucia broke the kiss first, her cheeks flushed red as if they were on fire. She quickly took a step back, pressing her hand against her lips.

"Y-you can’t just... do that after punching Joseph unconscious!" Lucia stammered, glaring at Gastone and pointing toward the groaning Joseph.

Lucia was too shy after the kiss that she immediately used Joseph as a cover-up.

Gastone blinked, still dazed, and glanced at Joseph sprawled on the floor like a discarded rag doll. "...I might’ve overdone it," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.

"You think!?" Lucia waved her hands dramatically. "You nearly killed him!"

"He was touching you," Gastone muttered defensively, though the edge of jealousy was now tangled with embarrassment.

Lucia crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow. "What if he was just... moving me out of the way?"

Gastone paused. "Was he?"

"Yes!" Lucia said, though her lips twitched, trying not to laugh at how much like a sulking child Gastone sounded.

Gastone, however, looked utterly unconvinced. "Then he should’ve moved himself first. Obviously."

Lucia burst out laughing. She tried to stop, but the more she looked at Gastone’s dead-serious face, the harder she laughed until she had to clutch her stomach.

"Why are you laughing?!" Gastone demanded, though his ears turned faintly red.

"Because—" Lucia gasped for breath between her giggles, "you look like a jealous dog guarding its favorite bone!"

Gastone scowled. "I don’t see what’s so funny about that."

"It’s hilarious," Lucia managed, wiping tears from her eyes.

For a moment, Gastone stood there, stiff as stone. Then, almost against his will, the corners of his lips curved up, just a little. "Only you would laugh after all that," he muttered.

Lucia smiled warmly at him. "And only you would punch someone unconscious because you couldn’t just admit you’re jealous."

Silence stretched for a beat, soft and oddly comforting despite the chaos around them.

"...Do I get credit for admitting it afterward?" Gastone asked, tilting his head, almost boyishly.

Lucia smirked. "Mmm, maybe. But you’ll have to make it up to Joseph, too. And no more punching."

Gastone groaned. "Fine. I’ll apologize... when he wakes up."

"You mean if he wakes up," Lucia teased, nudging his shoulder playfully.

That earned Lucia a quiet chuckle from Gastone, low and rare, the kind that made her heart skip all over again.

Both of them felt different in each other’s presence, unlike before. It was relatively warm and peaceful, as if they could be themselves without problems stacking behind them.

Lucia sighed, staring at Joseph, who was still sprawled on the floor like a fallen soldier. "We can’t just leave him there."

Gastone crossed his arms. "Why not? He looks comfortable."

Lucia shot him a sharp glare. "Gastone!"

Gastone huffed, clearly reluctant, but finally bent down to grab Joseph by the shoulders. "Fine. But you help. I’m not carrying him alone. He’s heavier than he looks."
