Alpha's Bite Between My Legs-Chapter 548: The Carrots and Potatoes
Rosina stood still, overlooking the entire werewolf realm from her office window. A deep sigh escaped from her mouth as the heaviness of the crown kept pushing her to the edge.
However, a knock on the door disturbed her thoughts.
"Come in, "Rosina stated weakly. She was managing the werewolf realm alone while Draco hid himself.
Fina entered the room, immediately walked toward Rosina, and whispered, "Sir Gastone is here and asked for an audience."
Rosina’s eyebrows lifted upon hearing the news. "I see, it seems I have another problem to solve," she stated sarcastically. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Tell him to come see me here in my office and make sure no one can see it, " Rosina added knowingly.
"Yes, Your Majesty," Fina lowered her head before leaving.
Rosina closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She already had a plan in mind; she just needed perfect timing to execute it.
After a couple of seconds, the room burst open and Gastone entered with a grim face.
"You look tired," Rosina greeted as she faced Gastone. She walked toward her desk and sat.
"I’m quite well, even after the bit of misunderstanding," Gastone replied, hinting at their recent argument.
Rosina’s lips twitched in annoyance, but she contained her composure. "And why are you here? Shouldn’t you be spending time with your lover?" she asked.
Gastone sighed, "I wish, but there are more important matters I must relay before I forget them."
"Speak freely," Rosina stated, brows raised in anticipation.
"Draco’s mother, I confirmed it, but I don’t think you will like it," Gastone spoke seriously. He wanted to keep that information, but he knew it was the task Rosina gave him, and he must complete it.
Rosina’s smile dropped as she rose from her seat.
"If I tell you everything. Will you give me what I want?" Gastone stared at Rosino intently.
"Ah, I see what’s going on here. "Rosina chuckled, shaking her head. "Do tell."
Rosina couldn’t help but be amused at how Gastone got the courage to bargain with her.
Gastone’s jaw tightened, though his gaze never left Rosina’s. He stood tall, as if the weight of his words could not be spoken without anchoring himself.
"What I’ve uncovered isn’t a rumor, Rosina. It’s true. And truth has a price." Gastone started, slowing the beat of his heart to control his emotions.
Rosina leaned back against her desk, crossing her arms, her lips curving into a dangerous smile. "You always did have a talent for theatrics. But I warn you, Gastone, if you’re attempting to play games with me, you won’t enjoy how it ends."
Gastone gulped as he swallowed his fear, but wouldn’t want to lose his chance.
"Give me safety and security to protect the two humans brought here, especially Lucia, since she’s my mate," Gastone stated confidently.
Rosina’s eyes narrowed. She had expected it, so she had banned several officials from entering the palace area.
"And what do I get in return?" Rosina asked, crossing her arms.
"Everything I know and what could possibly happen," Gastone replied sternly.
"Okay, deal," Rosina slumped back to her seat. "Now, continue. Tell me everything I need to know."
An hour has passed since Gastone started talking in complete detail. From the start to the end, every plan he had made, whether it was successful or not. Although, he left out the romantic stuff.
"I see. So there’s a high possibility that Giselle will return here, because she was that petty," Rosina chuckled amusingly, shaking her head as if everything was funny.
"Yes, and I don’t want my mate to suffer such a fate in her hands if she thought of something gory again," Gastone replied slowly, afraid that Lucia would sacrifice herself once again.
"Alright, I get it," Rosina brushed what Gastone stated. "However, you must also consider the dangers lurking in this realm."
"Of course," Gaston stated loudly, showing he could protect verbally.
Rosina nodded in approval before opening the drawer on the table and taking out two bracelets with a single rose pendant.
"Here, give it to them to conceal their human scent," Rosina stated and threw the bracelets toward Gastone, who caught them.
"You seem prepared," Gastone stated, raising an eyebrow while staring at the bracelets in his hand.
"I always do," Rosina smirked suspiciously, gesturing for Gastone to leave. "I have many things that need to be done. Go ahead and solve your current problem. Though I’ll inform you if there’s any abnormality in the realm or at the portals."
Gastone’s stare softened. "Thank you," he replied, before lowering his head and leaving in haste, as he didn’t want to bother Rosina further.
Rosina stared at Gastone’s back while he left, and she couldn’t help but smile. "You’ve really changed, Gastone."
After a few minutes of thinking, Rosina opened a closed box at the corner of her table. She pulled it close, opened it, and revealed a mirror. She gazed at her face for a while.
"This stress is taking my beauty away," Rosina sighed heavily again, closing her eyes as she composed herself.
"Mirror, show me Rocco’s location," Rosina muttered quietly. Instantly, the mirror’s surface fogged and changed, showing Rocco, who was caught, currently harvesting carrots and potatoes.
Rosina hummed. "Maybe I should take a quick visit."
Rosina closed the mirror’s lid with a soft click and leaned back against her chair, her crimson nails tapping the desk in thought.
The image of Rocco bent over simple roots and soil had left a peculiar warmth in her chest—an odd contrast to the cold weight of rulership she bore.
"Carrots and potatoes," Rosina murmured with a dry laugh. "While I drown in politics, he finds peace in dirt. How enviable."
Rosina stood, the silk of her gown whispering against the floor, and walked to the wardrobe where her travel cloak hung.
It had been months since Rosina had last stepped beyond the palace walls without a dozen watchful eyes. Questions would mount if Fina or the guards saw her slipping away, and whispers would spread.
Yet Rosina had long since mastered the art of disappearing when she wished.
After all, Rosina was that powerful being.
