Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 94
Kai POV
I cradled the lady in my arms, gazing at her. This was definitely the face of the woman I’d been seeing in my visions. The eyes, the nose, the lips, everything about her was familiar.
I felt a close affinity with her, even though everything was just so mysterious. But at least, I knew her name—Maya, and that was something. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
A while later, the ambulance arrived and the Para-healers that had come with it gave her first aid, after which they strapped her onto a stretcher and loaded her behind the van.
“She’ll be fine, Alpha,” one of the Para-healers said assuring. “Her vitals are good, although she has loosed a lot of blood, but she’ll be fine. We’ll take her to the pack hospital immediately.”
I nodded. “Thank you so much for coming at such short notice.”
“No problem, Alpha. I’ll give you feedback on how everything goes from here on.”
“You don’t need to do that,” I brushed past him, hoisting myself to the back of the ambulance “Because I’m going with you to the hospital.”
The Para-healers and his team all widened their eyes in surprise, as if I’d mentioned that I didn’t want to be Alpha again or something.
“Alpha, don’t worry, we’ll take care of it from here on and...”
“Don’t test my patience,” I snapped, interrupting the person’s speaking. “Get into the car and let’s take her to the hospital. We’re wasting too much time.”
“I know that,” the head para-healer said. “It’s just that. I think it’ll be better if you can sit this one out. I promise I and my team will handle it from here on. You don’t need to worry about it.”
“And I said I’ll go with you people. Are you deaf? C’mon, get on, we don’t have all the time.”
Soon, the ambulance eased out of the forest, winding through the forest path as we sped to the pack hospital. I sat at the back of the ambulance, my gaze never leaving the unconscious lady.
When we arrived at the Pack hospital, the first thing I barked at the nurse was.
“Call Odin—healer Odin and ask him to come over, now!!!”
Within moments, Odin came. His grey hair was pulled back neatly and his weathered face was calm but curious. As soon as he walked into the ward and his eyes landed on the girl, however, his composure failed.
He opened his mouth as if to speak, but no words came out.
“Odin,” I said urgently, “Save her. Do whatever it takes...”
He hesitated, his gaze shifting between me and the lady. Something flickered in his expression—recognition, maybe–but as quickly as I had seen it, it passed.
“I’ll try my best, Alpha,” he mumbled. “I will examine her now and proceed with whatever treatment is necessary.”
I had to leave the ward for the healers to do their work. I didn’t want to worry, but I found myself unable to sit still. I paced the length of the corridor outside the treatment room, my mind racing.
Who was she? Why did she seem so familiar? And why had Odin looked so startled? Besides, why did I feel worried that something would happen to her?”
Before I could delve deeper into my thoughts, the sound of hurried footsteps broke through my haze. I turned to see Lily and Celeste, both out of breath and wide-eyed as they rushed towards me.
When both women reached me, Celeste reached for my hand. Her chest was heaving as she scanned the length of my body.
“Kai!” she called out. Her voice was a mix of relief and panic. “Are you okay? The birds told me you got into an ambulance. I tried reaching you but you won’t even take my mind links.’
Lily’s eyes scanned me again, her expression softening and breathing in deeply when she saw I was unharmed. “You’re fine,” she said, more to herself than to me. “What’s going on?”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. I had hoped to avoid this confrontation, but the look of concern on Lily’s face made it impossible to brush her off completely. She was my mate. She needed to know the truth, at least.
“I found an injured lady at the edge of the pack lands,” I said carefully. “She was in terrible shape, so I rode with the para-healers in the ambulance and brought her here.”
Celeste frowned, eyeing me strangely. “An injured she-wolf? Who is she? Is she from our pack?”
My jaw tightened. “I don’t know,” I said curtly.
Lily came closer. Her voice was soft but probing. “So, you’re saying this she-wolf is random and mysterious? Why didn’t you let the healers handle it? You’re not usually one to get personally involved like this.”
Hud stirred at the underlying meaning behind her question, but I forced myself to remain calm. “It doesn’t matter why,” I said firmly. “She needed help. That’s all.”
Celeste, my sister, however, wasn’t satisfied. “You’ve never acted this way over a random injured wolf before. There’s something you’re not telling us.”
Lily touched Celeste’s arm. She must have sensed I was growing angry, but Celeste wasn’t easily subdued and always liked to have the last word.
“Enough of your questions,” I snapped, my tone brooking no argument. “This isn’t up for a discussion too. Leave both of you.”
Celeste blinked—the harshness also startled me. “Kai, we just want to...”
“Now!” I growled, unable to stop myself or hide the irritation.
Lily flinches at the intensity of my tone, and I regretted instantly. But she didn’t argue. She tugged gently on Celeste’s arm.
“Let’s go,” she whispered, her eyes lingering on mine.”
Celeste hesitated, clearly not wanting to leave, but Lily’s gentle insistence finally swayed her. With a last glance at me, she turned and walked away with Lily at her side.
I watched them leave, a pang of guilt gnawing at me. I hadn’t meant to be so harsh, especially with Lily, but I couldn’t afford any distractions right now. The girl in the treatment room held too many unanswered questions, and until I had those answers, I couldn’t risk anyone else getting involved.
The door to the treatment room finally opened and Odin stepped out, a tired expression on his face.
“How is she?” I asked immediately.
“She’s stable for now,” he said. “But she’s weak. Whatever happened to her, it took a toll.”
I narrowed my eyes. “And?”
He stared blankly at me. “That’s all, Alpha,” he said.
“Really? Are you sure?”
“Of course,” he nodded without giving away any of his emotions. I’ll keep her under observation for a few hours to determine if she would improve, but she’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”
I nodded, my mind already working through the possibilities. As much as I hated the idea of keeping secrets from Lily, I knew I had to tread carefully. Until I understood who this girl was and why she was the picture of the person I had seen repeatedly in my visions, I couldn’t afford to let my guard down.
For now, all I could do was wait—and hope the answers would come soon.
