Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 95
Lily POV
I paced the length of the living room in the pack house, my mind replaying everything that had happened that day.
Kai’s cold dismissal at the hospital had stung more than I wanted to admit. I’d come to his side out of concern, but he’d pushed me away as though I was some stranger.
I had left out of anger and the plan was to go back to my dormitory and never bother myself with him again until he reached out, but here; I was still waiting for him. I made some food for him, hoping he would come back any moment soon.
But after 9 pm, I was growing worried.
It was well past midnight when I heard the front door creak open, announcing his arrival. I froze where I sat on the couch in the living room, my heart racing with fear and anger.
Deciding I would approach calmly and reasonably. I had to address what happened today.
As he stepped into the living room, I rose to my feet, watching as he paused slightly; his face was pale and weary, dark circles shadowing his features. His shirt was wrinkled and his shoulders looked sagged as though he had a weight on it.
His gaze hovered over the length of my body for a few seconds before he averted his gaze and started for the stairs.
“Kai,” I began firmly. “We need to talk,” I said, my voice cutting through the darkness.
He didn’t stop. His golden eyes flicked to me briefly again as he started going up the stairs. “I’m tired, Lily,” he mumbled. “I just want to sleep.”
I followed him, my frustration mounting with each step I took. “You’ve been avoiding me for days and I thought we made up yesterday only for this to happen again. I understand if you’re stressed, but you can’t just shut me out. I need to know what happened at the hospital and who that woman is?”
He reached the top of the stairs, pausing for a moment as if considering my words. Then, without turning around, he threw over his shoulders. “We’ll talk about it later.”
“Now, we’ll talk now,” I insisted, my voice trembling.
He trudged wearily to his bedroom, removing his jacket, and avoiding my gaze. “Today, tomorrow, doesn’t make any difference. Please, I am tired.”
“Just tell me in a few words, and that’s all I need. Is she my replacement? Another political arrangement for the good of the pack?”
He kept ignoring me, removing his ring, and taking off the rest of his clothes.
“Only days ago, you were preaching communication. Now you won’t even talk...”
He paused in between going towards the bathroom and turned to me. “I don’t want to fight, Lily. I do not have the emotional capacity to handle your tantrums, either. All I am asking for is just a night to sleep and we’ll talk later.” 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
“Just tell me goddamit... please!” I was almost sobbing now.
Kai let out a tired sigh as he turned to face me, his expression impassive. “I can’t do this tonight.”
Before I could respond, he detoured going to the bathroom, grabbed a pillow from the bed and walked out of the room, going down the stairs and into the guest room before I could react. He closed the door behind him with a quiet but final click.
I stared at the closed door in stunned silence, my chest tightening. I wanted to knock, to demand that he explain himself, but the exhaustion in his voice held me back. Hazel howled inside me, feeling as confused as I was.
Deciding to let it settle for tonight, I retreated to the bedroom upstairs, my mind still racing with a lot of unanswered questions.
The next morning, I lay in bed for a few minutes, staring at the empty place that Kai would have warmed. Deciding I wanted peace over fighting and deciding I would fix whatever was wrong. I couldn’t let the distance between us grow any further.
Throwing on a robe, I walked to the guest room and knocked lightly.
“Kai?” I called.
There was no answer. I knocked again, louder this time. Still nothing.
“Kai, I’m not leaving until we talk,” I said, my voice firmer.
After several minutes of silence. I frowned and reached for the handle. To my surprise, the door wasn’t locked. I pushed it open slowly, half expecting to see him sprawled out on the bed, refusing to respond out of stubbornness.
But the room was empty.
He had left the bed unmade, the pillow still creased from where he’d slept. His scent lingered faintly in the air, but there was no sign of him.
My heart sank. Where had he gone so early?
I made my way to the ground floor, my bare feet padded softly against the hardwood floor. In the kitchen, one maid was cleaning.
“Good morning,” I greeted, trying to keep my voice steady. “Have you seen The Alpha? Alpha Kai?”
The maid turned to me. Her expression was polite but curious. “Yes,” she nodded. “He left early this morning, just before dawn. I didn’t know someone else was here, so I came in to clean.”
“It’s fine,” I flashed her an uneasy smile. “Did he say where he was going? Was he dressed in running shoes and track or something like that?”
The maid gave me another strange look. “The Alpha doesn’t share his whereabouts with me. I’m a mere omega and he was dressed casually. I don’t think he went for a run, either. He took his car.”
“Oh!” I nodded, forcing a smile. “Thank you.”
My chest tightened as I walked back to the bedroom, trying not to let the sadness overwhelm me. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was deeply wrong—not just with him, but with us.
Deciding not to let the worries weigh me down. I decided to dress for school. Anything to distract me from the gnawing ache in my chest as I slung my bag over my shoulder and headed for the door.
I’ll confront him later and whatever he was dealing with, I would stand by his side—if only he’d let me.
